    Story
You find yourself on what appears to be the remnants of an old battlefield. Craters, ruins and other clear indicators of conflict go on for as far as you can see. You make out a distinct building hiding through the local fauna as the command center. Tempted by what may lie within, you make your way through the trenches and wreckage to the front of the bunker's crumbled and worn entrance. The entrance is pitch-black, the floors and objects in the room only illuminated by the open doorway. You turn on your light and procceed to enter, in hopes of finding some old relics from long ago to bring with you.

    The Nitty-Gritty
Alright, so the main idea here is that you will come across old worlds the have been used as the battlegrounds between two separate factions and/or races. The main giveaway that you have found yourself in a war-torn zone would most likely be craters found all around major conflict zones. Buildings would be found, mostly destroyed but military buildings such as barracks, command posts, armories etc. would mostly be intact, due to stronger building materials.

    Battle-Zones
The zones would vary from area to area, due to conditions:
    • Location - Affects the buildings and their relation w/ area's fauna
      • Forest - Buildings lightly overgrown, local wildlife may be using buildings as shelter. Underground structures and bunkers may have caved in or flooded slightly.
      • Jungle - Buildings heavily overgrown. Sides or buildings would be covered in vines and buildings would be more deteriorated to to increased moisture. Wildlife more likely to live in these buildings. Chances of underground structures having caved in is quite high, and flooded underground areas would be extremely water-logged due to higher rainfall.
      • Desert - Buildings usually covered in sand or sand dunes. Sand would be piled high on the sides of buildings. Bunkers would have some sand trapped inside them. Hardly any wildlife due to harsh conditions.
      • Swamp - Buildings slightly overgrown, some wildlife probably living inside buildings. Some buildings are partially in the ground due to ground conditions and as such, most ground floors are partially flooded and all underground structures are almost completely flooded.
      • Ocean - Structures are suspended fron the water by stilts or other means. Some buildings are found at the bottom of the ocean. No underground structures. Fish could inhabit some of the sunken buildings and birds nest in the above-water structures.
      • Arctic/Frozen - Buildings are covered with snow and ice, large build-ups on the sides from wind. Collapsed basements would be filled with snow and ice. Basements intact would usually have thin layer of ice and snow trapped within. Almost nothing living inside due to harsh onditions of environment.
    • Race - Would affect the materials the buildings are made of, the set-up of defenses, the wreckage of vehicles, damage to environment and weaponry found.
    Buildings
    • Barracks - Standard living quarters for soldiers. 1-2 stories high, lighty armored. More likely to find weapons and equipment inside. One-story, some with basements.
    • Watchpost - Lookout post. 2-3 stories high, little protection. More likely to find long range weapons.
    • Mess Hall - Typical feeding hall for soldiers. 1-2 stories high, lightly rienforced. Mess tables in the main area. Almost always contain canned foods and non-parishable food & drinks. Rotten foods & stagnant water also common. Basements common, usually used as store-houses for food.
    • Storage Building - Full of building materials & equipment. 2-3 stories high, open. Filled with crates & storage devices. Building materials & equipment common.
    • Armory- The one-stop-shop for weapons. 1 story high, very well armored, small. Higher than normal chance of finding weapons here.
    • Command Center - The brain of the base. Extremely well armored and rienforced walls. 1-2 stories high.
    • Bunker - Extremely well armored and protected. Always underground. 1-10 stories deep. Good chances for finding advanced equipment.
    Weaponry
    • Mostly ranged weapons would be found. Weapons would range from ballisticto energy weapons depending on the belligerents.
    • Melee weapons could be found, albeit in rarer quantities and would come in the forms of knives (Ka-bars, Trench Knives, Smatchets, etc.) and tools (Monkey Wrenches, Ice Axes, Machetes, etc.).
    • Conditions - Different climates and biomes couldaffect weapon conditions.
      • Forest - Weapons could be rusted and/or jammed by mud.
      • Jungle - Weapons could be rusted, jammed by mud and/or water-logged.
      • Ocean - Weapons could be coroded by seawater, warped by heat, jammed by salt and/or rusted.
      • Desert - Weapons could be worn down by sand, jammed with sand and/or warped from heat.
      • Swamp - Weapons could be water-logged and/or jammed by mud.
      • Arctic/Frozen - Weapons could be frozen, worn down by snow and/or cracked from ice wedging.
    • Any ammunition found may misfire or prematurely detonate due to age and conditions of ammunition.*
*Not limited to just ballistic ammunition or energy ammunition.
    Power
    • Assuming that whatever generator or power system that powered the base was not destroyed, it could be possible to power parts of the base back up. This would require either introducing the correct fuel or replacing the power system with that of your own.
    • This would allow lights and other utilities to come back online.
    • If power were to be restored to the Comand Center, it could be possible to access terminals to:
      • Discover the layout of the base.
      • Find out who the two factions fighting were and/or why the two factions were fighting.
      • Find information on hidden ammo caches.
      • Enable/Disable turret systems (if there is any) and/or set yourself as a friendly unit to turrets.
    Conflicts
    • Race - Most of the conflicts found on the planets would be between two different factions of the same race, they would have pretty much the same weaponry, vehicles and materials. A very rare few would be between two different races. Both of these factions would have their own technology separate of the other faction's tech. In these situations, one faction's base would be more heavily damaged than that of the other's due to the superiority in weaponry.
    • Unexploded Ordnance - In some areas, unexploded bombs and other explosives can be found. While some are complete duds, others are extremely volatile and could explode at any moment if the ground around it is disturbed unless diffused. These explosives are more commonly found in swamp-like areas, deserts and arctic regions.
    • Forward Operating Bases - Bases in front of the main HQ, same basic buildings as a normal base, only more heavily damaged with more craters and holes in the ground. Increased defenses such as more trenches and tunnels. Usually have increased weaponry in armories and storehouses.
    • Sentry Guns and Turrets - Some systems survived the war, such as the automated defense system. Turrets and Sentries will always view you as hostile and will try to shoot you on sight. They are only found in bunkers and command posts, and are extremely rare even in these buildings. If they are shut down, they can be scrapped for parts, ammunition and/or weapons. Alternatively, you could just destroy them.
    • Complete Decimation - On some worlds, you will find nothing but ruins. No matter where you go, radiation is a constant problem and is in such a quantity that if you were exposed to it, you would probably grow a third arm or something if it didn't kill you first. Upon further exploration, you stumble upon a massive crater from which the radiation originated. There is no more natural life, only burnt out bases and the remains of trees and the occasional muntated animal. Radiation suits are required and are the only way to survive outside of lead and concrete fallout bunkers deep down within the planet's crust. Only equipment that can be found is within fallout bunkers except for ores.

A well thought out suggestion with great ideas! I like it.

I love this idea. There's always the posibility that older races might have been roaming the galaxy aeons ago. Many of them got decimated in nuclear wars, interplanetary annihilations or even cataclismic events due to risky science experiments! And it could be awesome to roam amongst the ruins of a macrocity, buried deep in sand or hidden deep in the jungle.

    I totally approve this!

Great idea full support. I am wondering though as you didn't specify if the wars are on going on some planets or if all of them are after some massive war. Either way it is still cool.

I always love a good ruin, just adds so much to the game's mythos. Want.

I love war (yes, even the part that is death, famine and horrible and tragic loss. I'm messed-up), and thus would love to see wart-torn regions and planets.

I mean, look at the Glitch, complete with their medieval styled background. Now look at Europe in the 11th century. Or the 12th. Even the middle east and Africa's northern regions couldn't escape, and then the Mongolians came a charging in, burning and stealing, doing damage even the Vikings were unable to accomplish (those people whom they displaced and in some cases replaced, see: Normans). Just think of what a planet might look like if it had originally been a Jungle Planet, but the use of cryogenic superweapons had killed off the life and turned it into a slushy ice planet, complete with underground jungle-filled caves and mutated and aggressive lifeforms, with the surface covered in ruins bunkers, much like a pox of the planet.

It'd be cool. I'd love it.

Nice idea. I only just joined the forums, but i do really like the idea of traversing through derelict cities and urban areas. Can someone inform me as to whether there are urban/destroyed urban environments (not just war-zones, as suggested here)?

Great idea... gave a like. I think an event would be cool where you could come to the world and see the war in action. Also would like to see the war biome vary with primitive to high tech races. So a low tech primitive war biome will have spears, rusty swords, rusty armor, command tents, burned forests, spike pits, random wooden traps, pools of alien blood instead of water, pike walls, castles, moats, draw bridge, ect. ect.

This is an amazing idea that would fit right in the game. But perhaps there could be different time periods in which the "extinction" war would happen in such as medieval, cold war, etc. and the generally "higher" tier eras could have still functioning security that would attack the player, of course, the the tougher the security the greater reward there is due to the old race being generally advanced.

I support this suggestion! The main theme Battlefield/devasted planet is awesome. In addition, there is a lot of good ideas in there like the Unexploded Ordnance. I am more sceptic about the weapon conditions.

Yes! I do like this an awful lot.
One thing, though - it does sound like a bit of a free treasure trove. It makes thematic sense to find supplies and weaponry everywhere, but the danger in return seems fairly low. Most of the fortifications would be defunct, and you'd probably have little trouble with the radiation once you've got a suit.

Perhaps some kind of plunderer band could provide a little more challenge?

Great ideas here , another thing that could be in bases are robotic enemies that use to maintain the structure or something like that.
