Ok so i loved terraria and this looks amazing, but before even thinking of buying it, i need to ask some stuff:

    does it work on xp?
can i play it on my potato?(pc)

you see, i live in south america and pc parts are crazy expensive, so buying a new one is a nono, i have a 1gb ram and a dual core cpu, with a gma3100

i know it sucks horribly, but i definitly cant afford a pc right now so im pretty much screwed, anyways, could i run it well, or would it even run? i heard that on xp it freezes

There have been issues with the game running on XP, there was a fix released in the Irriteded Koala patch roughly a day and a half ago with hopes that it solved the issue. I don't run XP so I'm afraid I couldn't tell you from experience, only what I've seen on the forums.

As for your computer, how well does it run Terraria? The game is not optimized at this stage in the beta and does have issues running on lower end machines. I've heard it stated by a dev (Molly if I recall) that if you have issues playing Terraria, you'll have issues with Starbound. I also know that lower machines are experiencing high load times on planets, meaning that you will not be able to get to your planet right away when your ship enters a plant's orbit; some say giving it time is the only fix, others have been told to use the beam down option in the games UI instead of using the beam down machine on your ship.

Last I heard, they had been working on some Windows XP specific bugs, so your mileage here may vary.

If your tuberosum can play Terraria, it should be able to play StarBound. If I get a chance I'll test StarBound out on my Windows XP running eight year old laptop, which could run Terraria at just barely playable levels.

The game will work on older spec's when it is released, as it is now well...it's unstable, can't say that it will work on a potato yet.

It's far more demanding than terraria,so if you could barely run Terraria, you can't run this.

    This.
I have troubles with fps and I'm running a gaming rig laptop. It's not super low or anything, but they haven't optimized the game yet.

uhm i run terraria pretty good, i can even watch a movie as i play, i play mostly singleplayer so i dont mind anything else, so i might buy it, any other info on people trying it on old spec pcs is welcome

You'll likely be fine, and at the very worst and it does not run now, you can always play it when you upgrade, or when they've finally optimized it to run properly on XP/older machines. Good luck!

well since an upgrade seems very unlikely, even in the future, i dont mind buying it now, even if it runs buggy or anything

    2. nope, the frames wont be able to be handle.
I'd say try to save up for a new Personal Computer with Windows 7, Windows 8 is trash, and than buy Starbound

The recent addition of the OpenGL version has definitely made it noticeably faster for those like me and some of my friends. I suppose it depends on your actual PC specs if they are comparable, however.

This. The OpenGL mode is a godsend-- the game runs much more smoothly with it, at least on my machine.

you really think it couldn't run at all? i run terraria smoothly, it's not the best comparison but still :l

You might be able to eventually, but right now the game is horribly unoptimized. It was put into public beta in a rather inefficient state, and there will (theoretically) be a lot of improvements-- but right now even some higher-end machines are having some difficulties.

well honestly i think i will still buy for 3 reasons:

    1) i want to support the developers
    2) price may change so its better to buy it now
    3) i only have the dollars available until 31th december ( i live in south america, dollars are like gold here)

    Thanks to everyone anyways
