Hello all, Wouldn't it be lovely to have an item to hang on the wall which represents the map of the planet? It would be a rough sketch of the topography and of places of interest which the player marked. Areas which haven't been explored yet could get a "here be dragons" style of artwork (perhaps with space monsters). It could help you remember where was what (in Terraria I always forgot where are the floating island, and which cave led where), it would be a lovely useful decoration. You could also have a maps room in you space craft. Taking this a step forward - you could install a GPS around a plant - and then you could see yourself on the map whenever you use this item. Taking this another step forward - you could have a camera and take "photos" of wildlife creatures from different planets. You could even name them - and then their name would appear later when you encounter the creature - would give you the feeling that "you've got to catch them all". Also I think that shooting photos is better then shooting the wildlife . Taking this another step forward - you could have a booklet item in which you can paste pages, photo and map to look at at a later stage. You could assemble the book of planet Zoid-X, a colleciton of maps and pictures of fauna and flora of the planet, much like a touristic guide. What do you think? O.
i like the idea, i think it would add to the sense of the player exploring and discovering new things. i suspect there will be some sort of planet map, like in a console, and you would be able to see what you've explored in it, kind of like Terraria's console version's world map. About your idea of taking pictures of the animals, maybe you could also take genetic samples of the mobs and then you could make a clone of it; the clone wouldn't drop anything, but you could store it in a tank or an exhibit. This way, you could add an exhibit of all of the most interesting creatures you've discovered. It would act like the 3d printer, and could maybe even use pixels to print the mobs like the printer. I think this would be a cool way of depicting your adventures in your ship, and would also fit in with the futuristic style of the game. Pertaining to the Exhibits, maybe you'd be able to add grasses and trees from biomes or planets as well, and you'd be able to make little models of a planet, like 20 blocks across or so. you may also be able to use the exhibits to show creatures from all different planets in order to kind of make your own small habitat. Maybe you would make a section of the ship, like "The Zoo," in which you'd be able to make new exhibits. Then, it could give you either the choice to recreate a biome that you've seen. However, this biome would lack wildlife like animals, trees, and grasses, and you'd have to put them in using clones or seends. Alternatively you could choose to build it from scratch, using any blocks you have! I think this would add life to the ship in later stages of the game! TL;DR: Maybe you could clone wildlife and add it into exhibits on your ship.
I could see multiple map types being an interesting building feature; For example, a hand-drawn map would suit the Glitch nicely, while a digital map on a monitor would fit the humans or apex. Florians might have a cave painting-like map on a big of hide. For some species, it might not make sense to have a wall decoration, but instead a furniture object. For example, the Hylotl could have a beautiful miniature 'models' of the landscape; since they are so heavily inspired by Asian cultures, an immediate point of reference are Rock Gardens, where the sand is almost always the ocean or rivers and rocks are islands, sometimes positioned to represent Mount Hōrai, Japan itself or other landscapes. Similarly, the Apex could have a fancy holographic projector which displays a hologram of the planet, spinning in space above it.
You sir, have made me want this. Give it to me now or suffer! I will also probably be a Hylotl now. Curse you.
It would be cool if there was a way to turn screenshots into hang-able posters/pictures to decorate your buildings or ship...
