  1. Paillan

    Paillan Existential Complex

Paillan s always woke up in the middle of the night. Shroom effects meant sleeping less but he really didn't care. The voices of the ones he killed while being a mercenary started to flow in his head. For the first time in years he took out a cigarrete and smoked. He caught a bit as he was no longer used to it. Funny, all this kind of shit was exactly the reason why he escaped the mercenaries. And now he was killing things again. Things that probably could comunicate, that made groups, that lived in society. The comparison was unable to avoid. He took more pufs and them lit the cigarrete off. He looked at all the crew and realized that somehow it was standing up time again. He sighted and went to make breakfast. On his way he saw Leif saying strange stuff, he probably got poisoned. Paillan took out a shroom and cut a piece and made Leif eat it. At least he would forgget the pain for a while. He them went to eat his first normal breakfast in years. After all his shrooms where limited and he already had used a lot of them.

  2. Cloudhopper

    Cloudhopper Weight of the Sky

As Cloud and the others finish packing up the small camp they'd set up to rest, he wonders how long it'll be until he sees the sun again. Hopefully he doesn't get separated from the others, because taking on those beasts would be difficult for him, if not impossible. Everyone had just finished eating breakfast. The fleshy creature that Pixelstomp captured grew restless, perhaps trying to lead them to the heart of their nest. Cloud decided to alert the rest of the group. "It appears that creature is trying to take us somewhere. Unless one of you has any other leads, this might lead us to the Alpha."

How long had they been down here? Does Armedes think they're dead, or is he still looking? Cloud thinks, before realizing that if he were in Armedes' position, he probably would have given up by now.

Pixelstomp's 'pet' was becoming more and more insistent that they move, but whether or not this was an ambush, Cloud could not tell.

(( Of course, as soon as I promise to be on more often, real life tightens its grip on my schedule... :( I haven't forgotten about the server, though. I'll get it up as soon as I can, just hang in there a bit longer! ))

  3. Dark Ruin

    Dark Ruin Orbital Explorer

Dark sighed and looked up to the ceiling. He'd found some useful information, but not what he had hoped for. It turned out his family's cult was behind it, but there was deeper implications there too. Initially they had been a group of scientists, working independently on a remote planet on creating a super soldier and advanced weapons of mass destruction. Apparently Humans had tried to prepare themselves for intergalactic warfare, seeing as their first encounter had gone so well. That had been a long time ago, and as time had gone on the scientists became more and more obsessed with their research, some even becoming fanatics. It was around this time they became the cult.

Then the real trouble started. They were discovered by the Apex and the Minikog, who immediately offered additional funding in return for a copy of the results of the research. If the humans gained a military advantage it could prove disastrous for the Minikog, so they wanted to even the ground. Then the cult began working with Erchius, infusing some of their members with it and creating the weapon that would turn the planet into a moon. That was when the USCM found out about the additional funds and tried to shut down the research. The cult activated the Erchius Bomb, as they called it, and wiped out the planet, though the USCM and Dark managed to escape alive. The rest went dormant, their bodies mutating. Some didn't survive, others transformed into the mutants stalking the mines now, but a few, no more than five, became something else. They became the leaders, like the thing that had crashed their drop ship.

There was no signs of any weakness to them, but there was talk of other horrors around. Like a form of the mutants that were stronger and more resistant to attacks, some carrying sledge hammers. He was sure that there were other types too, and there was a mention of some sort of crystal. The language of the later entries seemed to deteriorate, making it difficult to understand. That suggested that at least one of the leaders had returned here, where he had just sealed himself in. Not one of his better moments. He was about to head back when he heard a noise, rather like one of those mutants moving across metal, and it seemed to be getting louder.

"Damn it." Muttered Dark before he ran to the other side of the room. Where there was no where to hide. "Damn it." He muttered a little louder, looking for a way out. There was a vent, so he ran over and tugged on the grate, only to find it locked in place. "Damn it!" He hissed. Couldn't something just go right on this mission? He pulled one more time and the grate came loose, with the loud scraping noise of rusted metal. The shuffling sound outside stopped, then seemed to become quicker. "Damn it, damn it, DAMN IT!" Dark continued to hiss, as the grate had also landed on his foot. He jumped inside and pulled the grate back on, before attempting to crawl along the vent. He just prayed that he had disappeared into the darkness before he had been seen.

((Sorry again for the long posts))

  4. TheFormalNinja

    TheFormalNinja Void-Bound Voyager

    Go time.
By the time Armedes and the small squad of Apex had gone into the pit, the sun would've been up for no more than an hour. Jumping into the pit and following the trail left by the previous group, while still filling the remaining mutants with burst-shots and a fistful of frags that had been scavenged from the wreckage in the facility. Something surprised Armedes, as he and the Apex had been decently efficient with the clearing of dens, slowly getting to the point where they had to burn bodies for room. It was a nasty smell, like someone had thrown leather and something Armedes didn't recognize into a blender, then poured into a baking sheet. Disgusting. After the 6th den-pit, the group finally had tired themselves to the point of inability to continue.
"Shit...how much longer do we have to do this? It's like there's no end to 'em!" An Apex muttered, looking at the piled up bodies around them.
"Hopefully not much, I plan on being back on the Imperium by tomorrow's afternoon." Another answered, tossing a match down on a distant pile. "Can we leave now? We've cleared this pit out--still no signs of that group..." they had continued, directly asking Armedes. "Not sure, best just move on, then. We've got nothin' left here to do." Armedes responded, before continuing his trek through the hives.

Meanwhile, in the pseudo-mind of Armedes, a new plan is forming. These creatures move in synchronization, as if by a hive-mind. Would explain a lot, considering the change in ability between variation, as well as the sheer number. Even now, his mind would flash to the night that the beasts started a heavy assault, leading to the downfall of the base. The emblem, the tomb...the disregarded curse. All of that for some stupid trinket that Armedes' had pocketed awhile back. A simple device-more of an implant. Some sort of wrist implant of sorts, like a powered wrist-guard. He hadn't worn it since the original invasion, due to the effects. When the amulet is worn, it drives the wearer into the deeper parts of their mind; slowly driving themselves to madness.
