Just a small build I made! It's my take as to what a metropolitan area might look like in Starbound (at least the landing pad area).
I haven't visited one myself yet, but from seeing one in another thread I think there are certain planets which have a cityscape in the background. With some effort, you can make one with background blocks but I don't think that's what the OP did.

That looks cool, but it'd get irritating to have every Lush planet have a massive city on it. Then again, maybe it wouldn't. Does every planet have the same city, pretty much?
Afraid so, for now the lush planets just all have the same cityscape background. The mod author is planning to move the background to Barren planets / Elysium worlds (modded content) and perhaps even support for Frackin Universe. That screenshot was actually taken on a Tabula Rasa building world from Frackin Universe (basically just a nearly flat planet with trees and dirt instead of the ugly barren landscape). There was also a suggestion to make an item that would allow you to change the background at a specified point so if you wanted to build a city it wouldn't just surround the whole planet. The entire ship itself was created using the MadTulip's Spaceship mod. What that mod does is basically replace every single starter ship for vanilla (and compatible modded races) with this little shuttle right here: And gives you a few starting materials so you can begin expansion. I would recommend it over using the default ships because you can really create the ship in anyway you see fit rather than being limited by the design (and crew requirements) of the default ship. You can also then scan and place your ship (or any other building) into the world as many times as you like if you want to have some sensation of "landing" or setting up an outpost.
