Minecarts that have rocket boosters that allow them to fly.

 

A biplane. I don't know why, but they are so fun.

 

so, customizable vehicles... that could be interesting. you can buy lazers to attach to mounting points on a base, select the wheel type (if any), any boosters/turbo on the back. seems like a perfect fit for a mechanic npc. also has a couple of things to research, and a few items to find as treasure/quest rewards.

I would love full design desecration, with a selection of premade options for people who dont want to delve into it.

Imagine having each functional piece of the ship have requirements, such as power, or weight, so decisions need to be made, ie, faster, more guns, better shields, etc. A system akin to mechwarrior comes to mind. Also allows finding rare materials or the like to improve your ship by replacing parts with improved parts.

But I especially want to be able to design the look and feel of the ship, and hope that the look and feel dont affect the function in any significant way.
I imagine here being able to build a firefly hauler, a tardis, a viper, or a tie fighter, as my whim takes me.

I want an ATV or Humvee. (Heavy gas usage...)

 

How about a Drill vehicle? Something kind of like my M35 Mako, now it doesn't have to have guns on it, but I think small automatic weapons would be cool. My point is how about something like that vehicle, but with a drill on the front that can dig down and find huge caves. The players can then park and get out, explore and what not, get back in and drive back up the whole they made. Maybe add two or three automatic turrets, machine type turrets. Maybe the first player in is in the driver seat and next player in gun 1 and next player in gun 2. Perhaps the next seats would have a function as well such as a seat that would allow the player to use the vehicles lights or radar or something idk. Here's some pics of random tanks/apc and drills.

EDIT: Just noticed blind sniper mentioned this "subterrene" that is exactly the type of vehicle I meant.

 

Since many people already said Drill Machine... how about a giant flying boomerang?
