This was fixed in 2.1.7.2 and forwards. You're actually quite a few versions behind.

for 2.1.7.2. This is incase you don't want the visual wipe.

Is this the update from jan 28? because on he update page they are all the same version number. I didn't update specifically because of the visual wipe lol.

edit: i just realised i have a folder called Varietybiome in my mod...if i recall correctly one of your old patch was wrongly called like that, am i correct or is that another mod? I'm not sure because i keep backup of all my mods and i cannot see a backup of that one.

That's the last update on January 28th. This list has all the version names and dates.

2.1.7.2 is the last version before the visual wipe.

I downloaded this version today but i got a problem...i don't know if it has anything to do with that particular version but i upgraded my ship to the durasteel tech upgrade "sector x starmap" and when trying to activate it, my game would crash to desktop with no crash dialog or sound or wathever.

I tried activating it without your mod or without starscape and it crashed everytime, but when i tried it without both of those mods it worked fine.
I have roughly 40 mods installed and it worked fine with any other mods activated.

I had a big issue with that and durasteel tech upgrade with starscape, ended up having to manually edit it in myself.

Discovered that \biomes\surface\snow-geometric\snow.undergroundparallax is trying to load tundraunderground.png and there is only snowunderground.png in the folder - so I changed undeergroundparallax file to call snowundergroud.png, but I still got same error... odd enough. So i changed it back and renamed the pic file into tundraunderground.png ... that seemed to work fine now. Also same with snow-ice biome.

    Incoming wall of post!
    I'm really confused about this.
Can you make it crash to desktop by attempting to use the tech upgrade, then provide the starbound.log file once the game crashes and returns to desktop?
    \Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\starbound.log as usual.
The error should still be in there, even if there is no pop-up error.

And also, what tech/starmap upgrade are you talking about?
The durasteel upgrade should just give crafting recipes without Starscape installed. It shouldn't be attempting to unlock a sector without Starscape; my mod doesn't even touch the durasteel upgrade.

And finally, I've just realized one about your current situation which may or may not be the issue.
When you updated my mod to 2.1.7.2, the compatibility patch that you probably had installed for Starscape was broken.
Did you re-install the compatibility patch for Starscape after updating my mod? And fyi, the current version of the compatibility patch doesn't work for 2.1.7.2, so you'll need the old version. I hope you have the old version of the compatibility patch somewhere, because I don't have it.
What was the solution? Knowing what the solution to it is would help when future people encounter the issue.
The only time I can reproduce this error is by installing Starscape and VitsoU without the compatibility patch. With that compatibility patch between our mods, I've never ran into this issue.
I found that and fixed it in the upcoming update since I was testing those biomes, so everything should be fine in the next update.
This reminded me to fix it for Geometric Forests though, so thanks!
(They're being replaced by a new biome in the next update, but I'm keeping the original files in so people who already l live on them won't have their planets destroyed.)

So I've been wanting to implement biome specific weaponry, items and overall tech to encourage the player to explore them.
Sadly, I've hit a roadblock which I've been having issues trying to figure out how to cross.

The roadblock: How will the player obtain the content?

    1) Biome specific enemies.
This is possible, but there is a huge flaw.
And here is the flaw… It’s possible, but biome specific enemies won’t ever respawn.

    Pros
    • Encourages combat.
    • Allows players to grind for resources if they so desire, giving an incentive to build farms for reasons other than pixels.
    • Adds more variation to monsters.
    • Covers overworld content.

    Cons
    • Monsters won’t respawn, making the player just scan the surface and then leave forever for loot.
    • Regular non-biome specific enemies will get stuck in the mix.

    2) Biome specific dungeons
Again, this is possible but it comes with flaws.
The flaw for dungeons is that you can’t guarantee that it will spawn on a planet.
You also have no control over how often they spawn, so you could end up with two identical dungeons not even very far apart.

    Pros
    • Encourages exploration and combat.
    • Allows full control over loot spawning.
    • Adds more variation to dungeons.

    Cons
    • Unable to set how many biome specific dungeons will spawn. So you can result in 10 or even no dungeons on a planet, which is a huge issue.
    • Does not cover the lack of underground content.
    • Requires tons of ideas for dungeons to cover 50 biomes.

    3) Ores
It's getting more reasonable, but then there is a huge issue that crops up.
This time it’s that underground layers are random, and they have their own unique ore set.
And with over 50 biomes, how will I ever come up with enough ore ideas?

    Pros
    • Encourages underground mining and not just scanning the surface.
    • Spices up the ore generation.
    Cons
    • Past a certain depth all planets get random underground layers, and there is no control over which ones generate. Ever notice how moons will sometimes have underground jungles? Along with that, all underground layers have specific ore generations which overrides the ore generation for a biome. Gah!
    4) Chests
Well. This works and has no major issues preventing it from happening. But it’s very weak on content just having random chests scattered about.

    Pros
    • Encourages overworld exploration.
    • Easy to implement.
    Cons
    • It doesn’t solve the underground issue.
    • It’s a very weak way of implementing content.
    • It’s too easy to just scan a planet for chests and leave.

In the end, I can only solve a small chunk of the issue. Solving the entire issue is going to have to be done by Chucklefish later on in the beta.

And finally, I've released Rock Block. It's just a small mod that I've made because some people requested it.

Maybe you already know about these to, but I'll post them anyway (ignore pls if you know about it):
Error: Could not load /celestial/system/terrestrial/biomes/debris/Living Flatlands/maskie1.png asset, attempting to use default.
AssetException: No such asset '/celestial/system/terrestrial/biomes/debris/Living Flatlands/maskie1.png'

I'm sorry but i installed your most recent version now with all the up-to-date patch and whatnot, so i cannot reproduce the problem, though, having known that the game still kept a log i would have kept it...at least i know for thr future.

Also, yes, i talk about the Durasteel upgrade and it crashed my game everytime, i guess it's because of the 2.1.7.2 patch which was not compatible with Starscape like you said.

Anyway, it's no big deal, i just installed all the recent versions and deleted my universe folder, i lost my huge colony town but it's a beta anyway :p
I don't know if i had a bug but, i can now see twin stars and stuff like that but i couldn't before...so i guess the whole time i played since furious koala my "starscape" mod didn't work properly. lol

Another suggestion for a Biome, this one bumped in my mind when I check if there were updates for StarBooze mod ( and I forgot to post it when I've suggested the Cemetery / Oil biomes xD !

In the last update, he made the Honey & Mead stuff, that include also Bee Hives mini dungeons, with Meadbee Drone and Queen as mobs ( only found inside there atm ) ! This is how it looks :

So, the new Biome suggestions is a : Hive Biome ! Water is yellow like honey, trees have a look similar to hives, etc etc, all bee themed obviously ! For the ground and stuff, some zones are made of honeycomb or similar... well, the rest is up to you ! Also this one can be a good combo with that mod !

Drac I have a question for you as it was not answered on the starscape forums. If I were to install this mod, and the starscape mod on my computer, I could use it in single player. But if the multiplayer server had this mod but not starscape, would I run into issues with using this mod with the starscape patch on my system or would it error out?

Ah shoot. I somehow missed this post now that I came back and saw it.
There would probably be issues, since the client-side universe and server-side universe would be different. I have no idea how the game would react to that, as I haven't tried it yet.

And Dracyoshi, Master of Saving Sirithil Work, strikes again! :D I had literally just sat down to write this exact mod. Though you've had the rocks drop directly; I was going to make a machine that converts cobble to the different types of rock. I think your approach is better on reflection, though.
