Outdated Variety is the spice of the Universe 1.0.1.1 for Enraged Koala

Over 50+ new biomes, 10+ new weather types, new music & more

    TheKillerNacho Scruffy Nerf-Herder

Oh... well then. I guess I should change it back on my end if I ever want to make a new character. :p

Ever think about letting the man win and just making your biomes lower-case? ._.

Or perhaps... a rather ugly and temporary fix would be to create an exact duplicate of the forest biome (naming it Forest) and have it appear in Beta+ and let Alpha have its ugly OCD-inducing "forest" biomes.

  4. Requiemfang

Tad curious, volcanic eruption is that... basically lava rain? or globs of lava falling from the sky like meteors, or like crystal hail?

  5. Licflagg

    Licflagg Phantasmal Quasar

do you plan on adding more biomes? here are a few ideas: an icy wasteland (like the wastelands, but cold and with snow), a dwarf planet (atmosphere, but no life and has VERY rough terrain), lava oceans (oceans with lava instead of water), Village (a planet that's a whole village and is very small and hi-tech), carbon planets (made of coal and has a diamond outer core), thick atmosphere (landable gas giants), duo ice-fire (lava on one side, ice on the other), dead planets (like the living, but made of bone as if the living planet has died and decayed), cloud (made of "cloud fluff" and VERY low gravity), and ore crazy (planets made out of only one type of ore (coal planets are common, diamond and rubium planets are very rare)) these are just a strange bunch are they?

  6. Requiemfang

    Requiemfang Ketchup Robot

Lava ocean makes no sense... seeing how you'd burn up as soon as you teleported down. Last time I went to an ocean planet I spawned on the bottom of the ocean lol

  7. Licflagg

    Licflagg Phantasmal Quasar

the lava oceans will be different then ocean biomes (they are like swamps, but deeper and you always spawn on land)

  8. Raindrac

    Raindrac Existential Complex

Some of these are good ideas.
But, new biomes are going to have to wait for now.
I don't want to cause another visual regeneration after I said that'd be the last.
Chucklefish has to fix visual regenerations if they want to add new biomes anyway. So for now, we'll have to wait until then. Either way...

Icy Wasteland: That's a pretty good idea. Noted for the future.

Dwarf: The Twilight is pretty close, except permatwilight. Also, you can't set planets to have no life yet.
Not a bad idea, though. Still doable.

Duo Ice-Fire: Not currently possible with the current world generation engine.

Dead Planets: If only I thought of that sooner. I could make this a microbiome until then easily though.

Carbon Planets: Makes obtaining ores too easy.

Ore Planets: Makes obtaining ores too easy.

Cloud: I don't know. How would the underground be? And... a giant cloud floating is space. That's just crazy.
Also, you can't give a biome specific cores or gravity levels yet. They're set in planetgen.config.

Village: It'd be incredibly FPS heavy with the current NPC AI(In a SMALL Avian village my FPS is cut in half), and would require a metric ton of different houses to not make it seem repetitive.

Lava Oceans: Already covered on an earlier page of this thread. That's what I believe Chucklefish intended Magma biomes to be. I could easily make them a lava ocean, but you'd beam straight down into lava 90% of the time. I'll do it when Chucklefish fixes beaming down.
Even lava swamps would be pushing it. You still can't prevent the player from beaming into lava, and the surface would still be over 60% lava.

Toxic and tar swamps, though... Those could work out well. Maybe even frozen swamps.
Noted toxic/tar swamps for the future.

Rainbow forests have rainbow chests. Crystal forests, I'm not sure. Crystal moons have crystal chests.
That error is the error that happens when you have two mods which adds liquids. Have any idea which of those mods add a liquid?
psst, the parallax fix is already in my mod.

Ok when I remove all mods except for the Variety I still get the error

I used the downloads on the Variety page. Instructions say to download using the three links listed. Variety, Starscape, and then the patch by replacing the files. When I open the code of the patch the files appear to be the same as the files located in Variety and Starscape initially. So I am confused about that. How would you like me to send you the mods folder?

That's interesting... What downloads did you use? Could you possibly send me your mods folder so I can see the issue myself?
Yeah, that is really strange. I don't even think I have an explanation for that. I really don't know how to help here. Any ideas, yourself?
It shouldn't be because you didn't make a new character, especially if other sectors work. That means that this issue is isolated to Theta, which doesn't make any sense.

    Anyway...

Here is what I've been working on tonight. The first of many of the biome content features.
This is the forest biome saplinger. It's used for crafting trees from the forest biome. There aren't any saplingers for the other biomes... yet. For 100 pixels, you can craft a sapling of any combination. How you will obtain the saplingers? I'm not sure. Any ideas?

The number buttons below are used to hue shift the coloring of the leaves. Notice how when I click one of the numbered buttons, that the colors of the leaves on the saplings change? Yep.
There are currently 1850 tree combinations for the Forest biome. The Snow biome I'm estimating will have around 1,600. The remaining biomes should only be a couple hundred combinations.

And yes, the GUI is a WIP. Some things(like the search bar) I need to remove, because they have no purpose.

Saplinger is awesome and makes me a very happy elf. The recipe could include cell materia (currently useless high level mob drop, but seems relevant for what is basically a genetic engineering device) a processor (because the robot drops five now, and you can also craft them with LogicalRecipes) and some manner of metal and pixels.

In other good news, I landed on a rainbow woods planet and found a crapload of rainbow chests. So either something in the last update fixed it or (much more likely) I was just really unlucky before.

Not sure if this is something I've done incorrectly, or maybe I'm just misunderstanding the "visual representation" thing...

I've been using the Beta 2.0 version of this mod (the patched version just before the Umbra update) from the very get go with Starbound post-wipe. This and Starscape have been installed from the start together. Everything worked fine.

Now I've been trying to update to the newest version of Variety by following the install instructions. I've used the newest compatibility patch for Starscape as well.

But this totally wipes my universe. My beam down to Home no longer works on any of my characters and the character whose ship is circling his home planet beams down to find that his home base is gone. If this is supposed to happen, I'm okay with it, but I just wanted to make sure. The way the update notes sounded, that wasn't the case.

I made a backup of my old starbound folder before attempting to install the update, so I still have everything. I just don't want to wipe it if I don't need to.

    Thanks in advance.

Hum. It's strange that it is happening, because it shouldn't be...
I only tested this for going from 2.0 of VitsoU to 2.2 of VitsoU without Starscape installed, because the patch wasn't ready yet for 2.0. Some change that I've made for the patch might have caused this.
    Eh, oh well.

...and now i'm on a rainbow forest planet and am walking through the 6th empty prison so far on this same planet... (no i'm not walking in circles) there aren't any inmates in them, either. this is super weird.

come to think of it I haven't seen another creature for quite a while.

okay after my 7th empty prison i'm declaring this a definite bugged up world.

And now I'm on a desert planet and I swear this music is Nyan Cat music. Still not seeing any creatures. Where did my critters go? T.T
