Outdated Variety is the spice of the Universe 1.0.1.1 for Enraged Koala

Over 50+ new biomes, 10+ new weather types, new music & more

  1. Teknix

    Teknix Star Wrangler

absolutely a fantastic mod, it changes the game in a way that i love. fyi though, the folder went back to being A-DracY-VitsotU instead of "B-..." was this intended? if not don't worry about pushing another update out just to change it, was merely asking if it was intentional

  2. julz19

    julz19 Phantasmal Quasar

In the last update, like you mentioned, the planets look different from space than how they really are. Will a future patch fix the problem? or should i just stop updating if i want to keep my current char and not have messed up visuals?

edit: i quoted your wrong post, but nevermind lol

  3. Raindrac

    Raindrac Existential Complex

Intentional, as I want the mod to load first unless otherwise specified in a compatibility patch. This is so mods can __merge into my mod.
It's an engine limitation. Until :chucklefish:Chucklefish improves planet saving, there isn't anything that I can do about this.
This should be the last time that this happens unless :chucklefish:Chucklefish adds a new biome, though.

    julz19 Phantasmal Quasar

All right, thanks for the quick reply, i really like how you are involved and always give fast replies. One last thing though, would you personally recommend playing with those patches even though it messes the visuals? " i know you made the mod so you might be biased, but still" and could you give a clear exemple of what it does? Does it really only change planets visuals from your ship system? or also from your ship view and/or background planets from the planet view?

  5. Raindrac

    Raindrac Existential Complex

It changes how it appears as a background planet, too. So both.
    Basically, it effects...
    1. How the planet looks in the distance when you're on a nearby planet
    2. How the planet looks when you're viewing it from the star map/navigational panel
    3. How the planet looks when you're in orbit of the planet
And it's up to you on if you're fine with that.

  6. julz19

    julz19 Phantasmal Quasar

    All right thanks

    Decisions, decisions...lol
But, if i try it and get annoyed with this little unfortunate side-effect, can i revert to the previous version or will it reset my universe? I guess it would reset it, but just making sure.

  7. Raindrac

    Raindrac Existential Complex

It should revert back fine. I'm not too sure, I haven't did it myself.

  8. julz19

    julz19 Phantasmal Quasar

Thanks, i'll think hard and wait and see what people find out.
Keep your hard work, it's one of the best mods imo.

edit: yay for finding out how to put an avatar after more than 6 months...lol

Still wondering on those extra types of metal crafting from metal trees but I've got a different question about the world visually regenerating.

The planets that I have saves for: so planets that I've been on and mined a little then went away from despite looking different in space they won't change yes? but whatabout the planets that I haven't been to and are still just "possibilities" floating around all the other millions of stars? Will these planets become what the visuals suggest due to the regeneration or will they also be completely visual until you go to a planet just like ones that've already been generated? So since I was in the old version, say if I come across an umbra in my planets, will it actually be an umbra if it's a planet that I've never ever been to or will it be what it should've been back in the old version and hence cause massive amounts of confusion?

Your understanding of this is correct. That's how it works.

Any idea why I might be getting this when I try to use the cerulium card thing

Geh, it's weird how you keep getting these types of errors, yet I never do... even stranger how nobody else has reported them.
Does using the Flatisector unlock chip work? Did unlocking the previous sectors work?
I'm going to bed now, I'll have to check back in the morning. Just popped in here to check up on the posts. Sorry.
Also, I forgot to reply. This is certainly possible, yes. I'll do that in the next update, because that's actually a pretty darn good idea.

I'm also going to make Tentacle "trees" drop tentacles. They're bugged and drop wood currently.

  13. FistBoat

    FistBoat Aquatic Astronaut

Confirmed that the visual regeneration thing for older universes works, but now I'm wondering if this only applies to planets I've already seen/been on or to EVERY planet even in places or sectors I've never looked at.

awesome ideas and using the flatisector works, using the previous sectors worked except the previous one for sector x or whatnot the durasteel i think, but that worked after a patch from you or something

    Toxicologist Void-Bound Voyager

Instead of calling moons "Lunar X - Requires an oxygen supply!", why not call them "Airless X"? It makes more sense and is descriptive enough to not require a warning sentence.

  16. TheKillerNacho

    TheKillerNacho Scruffy Nerf-Herder

Great mod... but a quick nitpick... could you please, in the next version, change the name of "forest" to "Forest" to match every other biome in this mod, in which all biome names are capitalized? Maybe I'm just OCD but it bothers me enough for me to manually change it every time you release a new version. :p

    TheKillerNacho Scruffy Nerf-Herder

Also, I'd be interested in exchanging coordinates for this mod with anyone else who uses it, since normal coordinates aren';t going to work obviously.

Yeah I had tried to start a thread with it on the main page but no one responded to it, unfortunately.

I know your pain.. and I can't change it to Forest.
When you create a new character, it makes sure to spawn you on a "forest".
If I rename the forest biome to Forest... then creating a new character will spawn you over nothing, you won't be able to leave your ship.
And well, that's hardcoded. You can't change it to spawn you on something else.
I considered that when I was thinking of naming them, but something about the names I just didn't like. "Airless" just doesn't fit for me.
Though it does make more sense, yeah. Maybe I should reconsider this.
That's really strange how previous sectors work, but Theta doesn't. I have Theta unlocked in the current version myself. What could cause that...?
Perhaps you could try going to the \universe folder and deleting all files with the .clientcontext extension?
Before you do, enter your current co-ordinates somewhere. That has a high chance of changing your location in the universe.
