Outdated Variety is the spice of the Universe 1.0.1.1 for Enraged Koala

Over 50+ new biomes, 10+ new weather types, new music & more

  1. Raindrac

    Raindrac Existential Complex

I should ask, are you having that issue in single player?
If so, there is probably a mod compatibility then. Ask the server owner if he has any of the mods on the mod incompatibility list.

    Known Mod (In)Compatibility List:
Light Blue: Fully compatible without a patch
Green: Compatible if a compatibility patch is installed
Lime: Works fine, but doesn't take effect in modded biomes
Yellow: Possible crashes and certain features may not work correctly
Orange: Tons of crashes and having both only results in one working, do not use together
Red: Not compatible, crash at startup, do not use together
Pink: Redundant as my mod already does what it does
    • Ocean Worlds
    • Ocean Planets
    • Barren Worlds Fix
    • Terranades Mod
    • Liquid Air Mod
    • Liquids Extractor
    • Starbooze*
    • Ice Crystal Caves and Trees
    • Weather+*
    • Snoozle's Weather
    • Tech Planets
    • Toxic Worlds
    • Wasteland Planets
    • Binary Suns
    • Mechanical Worlds
    • Weather Plus
    • New Horizon
    • Starscape
    • AnTiVegetation
    • Extended Saplings
    • Improved Asteroid Fields
    • Dungeoneer Dungeons
    * Starbooze will be fully compatible in the next Starbooze update
    * Weather+ will be compatible soon enough

Did you follow the following installations perfectly? Sounds like an installation error.
    1. Go to ../Steam/steamapps/common/Starbound/mods.
    2. Install Variety is the spice of the Universe.
    3. Install Starscape.
    4. Install the the compatibility patch files into mod directory, merging with existing files. Replace all files when prompted
    5. Go to ../Steam/steamapps/common/Starbound/universe
    6. Backup the universe folder | This is incase you ever want to revert back to your old universe
    7. Delete the contents of the universe folder, or the folder itself

  2. teammadcuzimbad

    teammadcuzimbad Aquatic Astronaut

after crashing on his server i can't play singleplayer, same crash

  3. Raindrac

    Raindrac Existential Complex

Yeah, this sounds a lot like one of the 60 mods you have installed are incompatible. This mod is incompatible with a lot of mods due to the sheer scale, sadly.
Just check what mods that you have installed and see if any of them are incompatible by comparing them to that list.

You can also try installing only this mod, creating a new character and see if it crashes then. That should confirm if it's a mod incompatibility or not.

same error on single player right after selecting character that hasn't been on friends server after playing a character once then going to planet and then exiting and then when i try to play it crashes, i think it's incompatible with something, what things could it be? custom race villages? dungoneersdungeons is supposed to work with it right?

but my friend has the exact same mod folder and doesnt get this error, no idea whats going on

  5. teammadcuzimbad

    teammadcuzimbad Aquatic Astronaut

    from my server host
tell them i checked the list, and the only thing on the list we have is dungeoneers dungeons which it states is fully compatible w/o patch, and that the only other world modifying mods are race mods that only add villages etc
[8:04:31 PM] Jesse: going afk again
[8:04:41 PM] Jesse: btw i read the thread to most recent b4 i said ^
[8:07:14 PM] Jesse: oh and also mention an extremely similar thing happened on page 2, except you're loading the planet as your first planet, and not just teleporting to it

  6. Raindrac

    Raindrac Existential Complex

Wait, so he has the same exact mod folder and has no issues? ..wha?

And also as said, can you see if you can have only this mod installed, create a new character(that's important) and see what happens? That's very weird.
The "Error: UniverseServer exception caught: BiomeException: Failed to parse surface biome: 'flowerfield'" error on page 2? It only rarely happened because it only happened when the incorrect microbiome was called.

This one seems to be because the desert.surfacebiome file isn't loading correctly, implying that some mod is modifying it and breaking it...
But if he is using the same mods folder, why would only he get the mod incompatibility/incorrectly loading file? Are the incompatible mods loading in a different order, and they only work when loaded in a specific order? Is there even an incompatible mod? Mysterious error.

Reinstalled it properly and works fine this time. Still crashes for my main character although I created a new one and works fine.

  9. Stealthing

Firstly to save you from (possible?) confusion,
I would like to mention that I am the "host" of the server teammadcuzimbad mentioned.
and that I'm writing this instead of teammadcuzimbad because he went to bed.

Yes that is correct, I sent him the mod folder itself, all mods pre-set-up,
    removed previous universe-folder/player-folder/imagecache
I only experienced the error on one load-up,
and all others have worked fine.
(Probably because I haven't been to a desert-including planet yet?)
I cannot because I'm not experiencing the issue (anymore?).
I Haven't delved into the universe of modding (Yet)..,
but I'm pretty sure Case-Sensitivity in this games mods is required (from other mods I've looked at atleast),
and I've noticed that your (all the ones I've checked) surfacebiome files,
all call to the other biomes non-capitalized, and only in the "name" are they referenced capitalized.
    is it possible that because
is trying to find a "Desert" and not a "desert" that it's not finding it? (wherever it's trying to call it from?)
No idea, I have noticed that each load, the races loading in my character creation menu are in different orders
(however I think that's just because I haven't indexed them, I could be wrong though?, and it could be a different load-order)
I'm not sure but if it is what I suggested above, It's possible there's not, or as my friend said
However I must add that he made countless spelling mistakes when writing out the names ^^

Anyways I have to go to bed myself, and I'll check back in the morning,
hopefully a breakthrough with the error develops and a fix is issued from somewhere,
because It would be a shame to have to explore the universe,
w/o finding any of your large variety of custom biomes. (which are epic btw)
just to fix a (possible?) unknown compatibility error.

  10. Raindrac

    Raindrac Existential Complex

Whoa, that's a lot of quote boxes. :p
Yeah, biome names are case sensitive.
I changed the capitalization of every vanilla biome of my mod, and if any mod undoes that to the capitalization, then it'll crash.

I did a grep to see if "desert" is used anywhere in the current public release, and it isn't. "Desert" though, on the other hand, is. That definitively means that some mod is throwing compatibility issues... It should be able to successfully find "Desert". Anyway.

...and after leaving this ready to post for 20 minutes, I found the mod incompatibility.
The Cerpine race adds three new crops to the Desert biome, and doesn't use __merge. This means that the Cerpine mod reverts the name back to "desert"... And well. Basically, this happens.

    1) My mod renames the "desert" biome to "Desert"
    2) Cerpine loads and renames "Desert" back to "desert"
    3) You load the universe.
    4) My mod attempts to load "Desert"
    5) Cerpine mod already renamed it to "desert"
    6) Crash

    So yeah. That's the issue.

Also, that incoming update which will change biomes visually is coming up tomorrow.
It may or may not be worth waiting to install the mod until tomorrows update is out.
You don't lose your builds/planets when you update the mod, but they'll appear different from space.
Basically, all should be fine when you update, but your forest planet looking like a desert from space is perfectly normal. It'll be a forest again when you beam back down on the planet.

Currently I just need to do some polishing(like fix not being able to smelt wasteland sand into grass, etc), some bug catching and then see about getting some compatibility patches updated.

Colorful Deserts have also been re-added, but only temporarily. They will be replaced by another biome later. It's a placeholder for now, basically.

  12. Stealthing

    Stealthing Orbital Explorer

I couldn't get off to sleep, so I decided to check back on this thread for any new info.
good thing I did, because there definitely is. ^^

Sorry about that, I just thought my post would be better formatted (and a lot simpler to read),
if I replied to each particular part, in its own segment, w/o just putting the whole lot, and referencing back and forth.

I thought so, which is why I mentioned it.

I was thinking that might of been the case, which is what lead me to the conclusion,
(after my post and before your most recent one)
that possibly one (or several) of my race mods added NPCs/Villages/Dungeons,
that could only generate in a desert biome, (or more then but including desert biome),
which was causing an issue with the naming.
I definitely didn't expect it to be new crops, I didn't even think about vegetation. :p

Now that we know the problem/cause, is it possible for me to fix it,
(by either A: setting it to merge, or B: renaming desert to Desert in the Cerpine mod)
(I don't know about all the policies w/ mods and editing,
but I'm sure me changing a line or two for personal use won't hurt?)

Sweet, I'll make sure to download it when available,
(along with another 7? (rough estimate) out of 60+ mods i have to get updates for daily :p)
Sarcasm aside, I'm really looking forward to it, it's a great mod, and having the biomes show from space aswell is a huge bonus.
just wondering, will you be able to tell the difference between sub-biomes from space in this? or just see the main biome.

Now I'm going to head off to bed, and this time (hopefully) fall asleep.
I'll check back again in the morning, and hopefully tomorrow teammadcuzimbad can join the server.
(without removing either of the 2 mods, if at all possible via tweaking on my end, and in a worst case scenario removing Cerpine)

Im noticing if you have the new sector unlocked and you try to navigate somewhere on a server you crash right when you get into the chair :/

  14. Raindrac

    Raindrac Existential Complex

So, I quickly set up a private server and attempted to emulate it as if it was a regular server.
All -seems- to be going well? I was able to unlock and travel to sectors fine. I'm going to have to experiment with this some more...
Did you wipe your universe folder, or more technically every .clientcontext file in the universe folder, after installing the mod onto the server? You won't be able to access old planets with my mod anyway.
You should be able to tweak it.

So go to the top of the Cerpine mods desert.surfacebiome file, and change

    "name" : "desert",
    to
    "name" : "Desert"

That file should be in the mods biomes\surface folder.
Next, go to the bottom of the Cerpine mods desert.surfacebiome file.

    You should see this:
"allowedDetachedBiomes" : [ "bones", "sandstone", "tar", "oasis", "colourful", "arctic", "arid", "desert", "forest", "grasslands", "jungle", "magma", "ocean", "savannah", "snow", "tentacles", "tundra", "volcanic" ]

    Change that to this:
"allowedDetachedBiomes" : [ "bones", "sandstone", "tar", "oasis", "colourful", "rocky", "finesand" ]

Let me know if these changes work.

    Hi,
I'm encountering a bug; I can't warp to my home planet from my ship. I select the warp pad, click on 'warp home' and then... nothing happens. The game doesn't crash, but I don't go anywhere. This is a fresh character that I made after installing the mod, and I did all the starting stuff, made the distress beacon, then warped to Beta sector, did some mining, now I want to go back home. The other mods I have installed are:
    • Better Beds Bandages & Drills 1.0
    • jte_farming
    Please help?

    Good timing, just got back.

Can you try flying your ship back to the home planet, and see if it works or not?

If you need the fuel, temporarily install this mod: http://community.playstarbound.com/...rol-over-your-experience-furious-koala.58824/
Craft the Ultimate Box, and then use it to make "Condensed Fuel".

    Trilynne Big Damn Hero

I just tried to fly home, and I think 'home' is not set... it doesn't do anything when I click 'go home' on the navigation screen when I sit in the captain's chair, I don't remember what planet was my home base

  20. Raindrac

    Raindrac Existential Complex

Could you attempt to warp to your home planet, close the game after it fails and then provide this log file? \Steam\steamapps\common\Starbound\starbound.log

Upload it onto a site like www.pastebin.com

If anything though, it sounds like the world may have been somehow corrupted... I'd hope that it wasn't. I've never encountered this issue myself.
