An idea that would be rather useful is *Vacuum Chests". Vacuum chests would be an item you could place that could collect dropped items and store them. "What would be the point of that when you can just pick them up yourself?" A vacuum chest would be very handy to put at the bottom of death pit traps and mob farms(?) (or tree farms) or any situation where you can't get down right that moment, or get down there (affected by physics?). Vacuum chests could have an item teleport kind of thing where the items are sent to another chest, (Another idea there, teleport chests?) so you don't have to get to the chest yourself (Like for death pits, as I mentioned above). Of course, there could just be pipes, but teleporters are cooler and more efficient. So yeah, that's my idea, feel free to add suggestions and thanks for reading.

I actually really like that idea. Chests on their own are an item that can get really boring, and I think variants of chests are a popular thing in many games. The idea of a vacuum chest could have a good many uses for those willing to experiment. Very nice idea !
I'm a fan of the idea for different kinds of storage units that do different things. Makes for unique storage rooms.
Maybe as a very, very end game/expensive item, you could craft some type of crazy chest that has unlimited space it it. I have a feeling that this may be abused so it might not be a good idea. It would be useful for storing your loads random crap! Well it would be cool either way.
Yeah I like the idea of chests being able to pick up dropped objects, and perhaps a wire/pipe system connecting two chests which lets you transfer items between the two, like a "send to" and "receive" button or something...
I like the wires and, send+receive button idea, however, if the distance is too long the wires could be a problem xD, either way.
Well we have teleporters in our ships... Perhaps in the later tiers we would be able to reverse engineer the technology and implement it into a variety of different objects... teleporting fridges?
Oh i like that idea of unlimited storage, maybe it all transfers to a dimensional box in your ship that organizes everything for you based on what it is, and you can make groups for new sets of items yourself too maybe?
I think the idea is excellent, and Tectal was right about chest being a bit boring. Having a chest with a more useful and complex function would be awesome. I would also like to add perhaps being able to dye a chest to have it more organized in category. Color makes that job alot easier in Starbound since the vast amount of awesome items tend to build up the storage containers pretty fast. But yes, i like this idea about more functions to the chest, that little detail opens up a whole new way of thinking/gameplay.
Infinite chest? My mind goes a bit wonky when someone suggests anything infinite, as when you use infinite, you start to lose use for other items of the same category... In this case, you could simply tell all other chests to go piddle off while you store everything in the one infinite chest... and I'm not sure that would effect gameplay well... yes it would save you much space... but is it really worth it in the end, or fair?
love the idea, and it made me think that i would be good if it could be programmable eg. it would only accept items that had been placed inside it by the player once before, or maybe you could set categories eg. blocks, food, weapons, pixels etc. but then that made me think that just having programmable chests would be awesome anyway, so a chest that automatically took things out of your inventory when you used them would be cool
This would be a great item to have at the end of an assembly line if they ever add conveyor belts and other forms of automation. When it's filled, it could emit a wire signal you could set up to shut down the factory until you've cleared out the chest. BRB, gonna go suggest conveyor belts.
