I think the user placed (spawned) NPCs should be treated as players in that they cannot be attacked by other players (outside of PvP) of course). Having a guard in front of my house is pretty awesome... unless my buddy can just beam down and 1-shot it for kicks (or by accident). Is there any reason not to do this?
yeah I hear you with that i've ended up other in panic from a monster getting in my house or miss clicking. in this way i've ended up killing a doctor a chef and my poor guard.
This is definitely an issue. The biggest problem is that you can't effectively protect your NPCs if a monster gets too close. If you try to kill the monster while it's on them, you'll hit them both and inevitably kill the NPC first because the monster has already beaten on it. This creates another issue with maintaining a homeworld too. Because your NPCs take same level as the planet you put them on, if you maintain your homeworld on a low level planet you can accidentally one-shot your NPCs. NPCs on your ship apparently default to threat level 1, too. I accidentally killed the Chef I had on my ship when I clicked instead of middle-clicking.
I spawned a guard on my ship. Then I found a cool weapon with a projectile effect. I tried it out on the ship, not even thinking. Thus ended the career of Joe McStabbingvictim, professional guard.
I like the ability to have NPCs on my ship. Especially once I can start making it bigger, it gives it a bit of a sense of crew. But I wish I could do it without having to walk on eggshells on my own ship from then on.
Accidentally i killed 2 guards in one shot :B(random shooting lol ). Hope something like this is implemented in the game
I got a great idea to solve this... Once you are able to make NPC's out of steel, you should also be able to create a "De-spawning tool" out of steel. Usiing the De-spawn tool transforms your NPC's back into capsules (Which also would make it possible to relocate your npcs) With this method, you are still able to "Kill" your NPC's by despawning them into capsules and then "Trash" them And offcourse Player made NPC's shouldnt be able to get attacked by players
