How to use a controller for Starbound If any one wishes to use an Xbox 360 controller (or ps3) to play Starbound I've worked out a configuration that works using JoyToKey. First make sure you have the latest version of JoyToKey installed (its free don't worry) When you've got JTK all up and running you should be confronted with a complex looking window a bit like this one: First click "Create" then name your new configuration (Mine unoriginally is called Starbound) On the right there should be tabs called 1)Joysticks and 2)Others/Preferences click tab 2) It should bring you to this tab: The settings you want are: Number of Joysticks to configure = 1 Use axis other than X and Y = Yes Handle diagonal input as special case = No Use POV switches = Yes (the Threshold for input is if your controller is too sensitive) Now go back to tab 1) or "Joysticks There should be a bunch of added axis. To input something double click the button or axis and you should see a window like this: Click the box which is being pointed at and it should highlight yellow, then press the key on your keyboard that you want to input. For the Axis you want to input the following: X< =A X> =D Y< =W Y> =S These are now set to your left stick. For axis 3 Click the "Mouse" tab 3< = Tick the "Use button click: Left Button" 3> = "Use button click: Right Button" These are now set to your left and right triggers. Axis 4 and 5 are your mouse movements so stay on the mouse tab. 4< = Cursor movements = -40 Horizontal 4> = 40 Horizontal 5< = 40 Vertical 5> = -40 Vertical These are now set to your right stick NB. you can change how sensitive your cursor is by increasing and decreasing the numbers From axis 6 - slider 2 you can leave "Disabled" The next thing you will need to change is "POV1" POV1:UP = X POV1:RIGHT = C POV1: DOWN = Z POV1:LEFT = Ctrl This is set to your D-Pad Skip POV2 and move on to the buttons Button1 = Space Button2 = Shift Button3 = I Button4 = E For the next 2 go back the "Mouse" setting Button5 = Wheel Rotation = 13 Button6 = Wheel Rotation = -13 The final 3 buttons are on the "Keyboard" (Button7 = Disabled) Button8 = Escape I have the dash tech so I have set buttons 9 and 10 and dash left and right. If our are not as lucky as I with your tech chests, then you can leave these blank. Button9 = A (But you also need to put the "Automatic Shooting" to max) Button10 = D (But you also need to put the "Automatic Shooting" to max) The layout for Xbox and PS are: All of this layout is completely customisable to your own satisfaction and please post below if you've found a more optimal layout.
