it would be great if you could upgrade items so they would have better stats 'n stuff. I always hated it on other games where you find something cool, but you just don't use it because you already have something better. so yeah, some kind of upgrade/level-up system for items.
This could actually work out really well if implemented correctly. Not to use Terraria as a basis but having the Goblin Tinkerer be able to augment the attributes of your weapon for a price is very useful. I like the idea behind upgrading vs leveling up though. Leveling a weapon is asinine however as a weapon does not get better over use, it's worn down. Just my opinion however. Upgrading and tempering a weapon however is highly viable and doable. I say to be able to upgrade a weapon you would need a comparable material as to the weapon. For instance, if there are specialized materials involved, you would have to use said comparable materials or greater to upgrade your weapon with. Reforging as to speak. As far as enchanting would go, would be possible if status effects were being introduced.
How about instead of inanely upgrading a weapon using material that has to be created by devs, base it off a skill in reworking and repairing weapons. You get so good late game that the chances of getting random upgrades when a weapon is tempered, repaired, or reworked are much higher. But beginning game, you're more reliant on FINDING better stuff, so all in all you still don't deviate from the aspect of exploration and danger, and the upgrading of equipment is done later on to supplement your survival in obviously larger and more ferocious beasts, and enemies.
I think upgrading will be there, because Tiy said money will play a HUGE (yes it was written in capital letters!) role! But I specially like the idea of upgrading things, to make them better directly!
I don't really care if its a physical item you get that actually does the leveling, or if you just use money. I just want to see something in the game that upgrades weapons and items.
