I honestly dont think that 5 moon fuel stuff is a good thing, at all. Its really waaaayyyyyy too easy to get a chest full of stacks of fuel and to like never run out, just for spending 20 minutes on a moon. It seems like they're really hit and miss with these things, so far. Before this I suppose it was annoying and grindy to get fuel? Because like if so, and this was trying to correct that, I think they really overcorrected it. There's no incentive to go use any type of other fuel now.

Before the new change the first fuel you could throw in there was coal and after that came plutonium, uranium and Solarium

I've only played a little of stable so far, and i did notice getting a lot of coal is kind of annoying but idk. Feels like theres absolutely no challenge or effort that has to be put in to get fuel now.

    Well, it depends.

Some people like to just visit every single planet they can, and the progression isn't quite yet close to be completed, maybe this would balance itself out as they complete it?

Admitedly, I got really lucky, I found gigantic pools of Erchius, and at a decent depth, so maybe It might be balanced for others, RNG seems to have shined on me.

Though I do admit, this isnt anything great, in terms of the fuel system, maybe it can become something good, even if eventualy.

That's just it though... Those giant fuel pools aren't rare at all. You can find plenty of pools that size within one moon planet ... The thing is the size feels nice but maybe the rarity should be cranked up?

That or some more fuel sinks... Wouldn't mind being being able to sell the stuff and become some fuel dealer with a mining rig. YEEEEEEEA- HAAAAA DERS ERECHIUS IN DEM MOONS!

Don't forget being able to produce charcoal via trees.

Feels like there is still a heck of a lot of stuff missing. Why did they take out some biomes? To add them back in as "updates" later?

I am probably going to wait for the "farming" update, if this winter update was the "adventure" update.

The new focus on the MM over copying Terraria's progression is welcome. The coffee quest was a but of a troll idea, I'd have laughed if they had added a horseboob quest.

It wasn't too bad. I'd just make a giant tree farm in the sky and get enough fuel to filler up. I just downright ignored coal after that when mining.

Yeah I agree . Wish they would have just given you all three quests at once, or just made it one quest that was divided into three separate objectives, similar to how borderlands handles those.
Flying to the outpost gate, going down from my ship with that coffee that took me a good chunk of time to get (Because it didnt specify how many beans were used to make a thing of coffee, I brought a lot back to be safe), warping to the outpost, and then talking to her just to find out I had to warp back to the gate, warp in my ship, fly to a desert planet etc. etc. was just so tedious -.-

Yes, the outpost thing should be something that you have to construct. Warping to and from this gated section is a bit strange in a sandbox game, but maybe they'll rework this again. I didn't think that was one one of the stronger elements to the winter update. Best thing was the MM upgrades.

i just read the review, all i can say is the reviewer didnt have his weetabix this morning!

the game is brilliant, you played it enougth to "review" an incomplete still in development early access beta game, of which is phase 1 of 3, hmmm

I'm enjoying quite a bit of it. I'd say what I'm disappointed in was the reduced randomness of planets. I loved coming across all sorts of biomes mixed together, even if they didn't make a lot of sense. You could try to imagine how a planet like that came about. A forest interspersed with desert. Fire and ice (volcanoes amidst glaciers perhaps?). I'm hoping they will either throw in a lot more randomness or a lot more biomes that could show up on each type of planet. There are other things I'm waiting for, but those are still being worked so I am happy to enjoy what I've got at the moment.

As for some of the other ideas, I don't miss hunger killing my character if I suddenly go afk. If there was an afk/inactive mode then I would have enjoyed that a lot more. The current system is interesting. The food gives you an occasional buff, but can't be relied on for constant help as your character won't eat for a while after. I used to race across the land stuffing my character's face with speed buff food and wondered how she could eat all of that :p

I hope the coffee troll will be the only quest like that. One is funny/slightly annoying. More would just be annoying. I wonder if she's a spoiled princess in disguise.

Fuel is an interesting balance. The original system was quite grindy until you got to higher levels and were overflowing with fuel ore. The moons open up everything to exploration a lot earlier. It does feel too easy starting out, but I love exploring so I won't complain about that. Must explore ALL THE PLANETS! Wheeeeeeeeeee!

Too true. The developers decided random was the way to go, and gave up the ability to fine-tune the player experience in the process. This doesn't just apply to monsters, but also to terrain and dungeon design. While they wanted to make dungeons more designed and less random, the rooms, layouts, and monsters still end up feeling like they lack both variety and purpose. I have no doubt that this will begin to change in time, just as it did for Terraria, but I can't help but suspect it is a direct result of design choices. It makes me think that if I ever did work in game design, I'd learn from Starbound's mistakes and use procedurally arranged but fully pre-designed rooms/terrain/monsters for everything instead.

I think what they did is fine - but went too far in the random direction.
For example if they went with a midway - similar to your character generation. You have a predefined character - but the body parts just change up.

You can still maintain a random generation element - but have predefined attack patterns. Or best of both worlds. It is something they can still accomplish now without a massive overhaul of generation system

I think they currently have attacks based on the mob's body parts. All they'd really have to do is limit certain body parts to certain biomes. I suspect they plan to do exactly that, but even then it doesn't guarantee obnoxiously placed ledge bats, or mimic monsters that are actually convincing. IDK, they'll probably figure something out.

    Quick list of bad things:
    - level of the quests
    - stupid energy system using hunting bow on the first planet will get you killed
    - eating food lock, after you eat some food there is big cooldown preventing from eating ANY food until the benefits of the first one ends, why???
    - stupid boss fights, they are all horrible, ufo was damn frustrating, I use lower resolution and can't even know where that damn thing is floating atm
    - Psy Staffs suck hard, you have very limited mobility while using them
    - gate to the outpost in every system
    - no more hazards on planets thanks to nano suits

I like the matter manipulator, but the fact that you can't fix pickaxes and drills anymore is stupid. Also they added very annoying sound to MM in current nightly build and mining is now annoying cause of that noise.
