Closed Unstable/Nightly crash upon startup

    Ok so apparently my post didnt stay, but here it is again. My brother told me about the new update and I haven't played in months so gave it a shot(meaning that it works for my brother). I attempt to start the game through steam only having it crash upon startup. I try the launch starbound server and the same thing. The mod uploader says I'm missing the executable. I try to re-install it(including deleting the files in steamapps) and no dice. I try to run the executable itself and get the error below. Access violation detected. I had it more descriptive before, but I made it short and sweet this time. Yes I am port forwarded as well and I will provide specs if needed.

    sure thing, but I recently deleted all files so its a bit empty right now. This is what it shows when I try to start the game, but it never changes/adds beyond this:

    Strange issue tbh...it looks like it's failing when initializing the joysticks OR the sound (which is the next step according to normal logs)
    I'd suggest unplugging all joysticks and reinstall/update the drivers for your sound card/chip.

    I tried that and none of it seemed to work although I don't know what kind of joysticks you mean. I don't think I have any.

    I reinstalled nightly and it worked fine for me today. Wasn't getting an achievement to complete on regular unstable.

    attempting diagnostics. If you have any mods installed remove them for now and see does it work....oh wait "...ory '..\mods\', directory not found..." disregard this line
    additional. if you have unpacked the packed data move that "unpacked" folder outside the main folder as it preventing mine running successfully

    mine continues to work after Sound which......could indicate a sound error?
    any chance you have any sound problems on your...? computer? laptop?

    Ok, so it is a sound problem like Iris stated before. Hmm, I have a desktop computer and my sound has never had an issue with any game/program I ran(besides Gmod because everyone can get a sound problem on that lol). The only notable difference between now and the last time I ran starbound is the USB Logitech headset that I have. I have another headset and will try running the game with that to see if there's a difference(it is the headset I used to play starbound before). Note that stable works fine with the Logitech one so idk. I also don't know what "unpacked" folder you could mean.

    Well, I've tried and none of it seemed to work:re-installation, switching/re-installing headsets, and disabling/changing sound card settings. I don't know what it could be. Something with starbound's coding/"detecting my sound card" is messed up somewhere. Maybe I'll just have to wait for more update/wait for full game release.

    Are you using any additional sound codec packs (e.g. k-lite)? Sound initialization can also fail when it's the codecs fault.

    No, at least I don't think so. I don't know where I would have gotten something like that. The most I have that could be related is:OBS and Sony Vegas. I have 64-bit Java and that's new considering how long it was since the last time I played. Maybe even my virus protection, but I already checked my firewall and other than that there is just malware bytes. Idk but whatever the problem is, it confuses me beyond belief.

    OBS doesn't interfere with starbound nor does java. Sony Vegas shouldn't do either.

    Which programs do you use for e.g. overlays? (steam, overwolf and stuff)

    I use a steam overlay and an in game fps counter whenever I run a game through steam, but when i try to run the game through steam it crashes on startup(with no error message). Running the executable gives me the error message. I'll disable steam overlay and see if it works.

    This didn't seem to work, it still crashes on startup through steam and still displays an error when I run the executable. The game's full release is tomorrow, hopefully its fixed then.

    Try disabling your fps counter (if it isn't the internal one of steam)

    so unfortunately, the new version of starbound(the stable one) arises with a very similar error since the full release. I get this error when I run it through steam now on startup as before. The unstable still crashes on startup with no error, but the stable gives one but still crashes on startup. I could run the stable yesterday before full release. Its something with the update.
