   Ok so I just landed on a planet and there is an area where dirt, and cobblestone cannot be mined I dont know why, I've run into this a few times on different planets. Does anyone have any insight on this?

   That's probably what's causing it. There's something in the lab you need to disable to make the blocks in it breakable, so it's transferring to the surrounding dirt as well.
