This is the last item I need for the CC ... and I can't seem to get it! I had only one bunny, just bought another. The first one is at 4 hearts. I check that cart as often as it parks in the forest. I'm not having any luck! Everyone else get this item fairly easily??
Rabbit's feet are most likely to drop once the bunny reaches 5 hearts, I believe. It takes patience. In the meantime, I could use some help getting that damned Dwarf Scroll IV. I go on bug killing sprees in the sewer every chance I get, I'm in Year 3, and still no luck...
I've had mixed luck over my various saves. Sometimes I got it fairly earlier on, other times it was one of the last things I got. It doesn't help I usually put off getting animals the first year so their various products are usually the last thing I get.
A useful, albeit counterintuitive tip, is that if your animals like you a TON they will try to give you Large items, like large eggs, or large milk. This is great for animals that have them, but for those that don't, instead of giving you a large version, they give you NOTHING. As such, if you want your rabbits to give you rabbits feet, treat them worse. There are two "happiness" indicators to pets, one that is displayed by hearts, one that is displayed by text. IIRC hearts are determined by petting them or not petting them. Text is determined by needs(heat in the winter, door closed in the rain and at night, getting to eat). Also IIRC, the star value(none, silver, gold, or iridium) is based off the heart value, which is determined by petting them, while the large or normal is determined by the other. As the rabbits feet have a requirement of a few hearts to spawn, usually by the time you have those hearts, they are already so happy because you have given them all their needs, when they would spawn a rabbits feet, it procs and they try to give you a large one, and it fails to give you anything instead. Source: I've read this about other animals, found on accident with Rabbits, as I treated them great for years with no foot, until I didn't realize I didn't have enough hay one winter and they went hungry for a few days, and bam, rabbits foot spawned. After that I I no longer needed anything, so i stopped closing the door at night or raining, and I didn't pet them daily, only even entering hte coop once a week or so, and now I usually get 1 or 2 every week. TL;DR mix up how you treat them, sometimes don't close the door, some days don't pet them, maybe sometimes don't feed them, and you will get your foot.
I do not believe this is how this works. You are correct in that there is a bug in the game where regards 'large items' from animals, but that only applies when the animal has only one item to give. This is the case for sheep and pigs (possibly Void Chickens as well), who only supply (respectively) wool or truffles (or a single type of Void Egg). If they are so happy they want to give you a deluxe item, they have none to give and you get none. But rabbits' normal item is wool, not rabbit's feet. Rabbit's feet are the deluxe (as you phrase it, 'large') item. In the case of ducks and rabbits, they have a normal item, and a 'deluxe item' to supply if they meet the extended happiness requirement.
I do not believe that you need to mistreat your animals to get better items. My pig, my rabbit, my void chicken are topped off, I get truffles, wool, eggs, and twice, rabbit feet. The sheep and goat are more baffling to me in how they give their wool, and milk, it is not always every other day, or third, or quality... but this is about that darn rabbit. The feet are rare, the wiki says their percentage is in a fractional amount. I also think that it is possible that some items are dropping out of the coop at the bottom, or might be behind items you cannot reach. I know that I often find eggs barely peeping up over that bottom edge, and once I did get a green plus sign down there when I could not see anything at all. I too would like to find that dwarf scroll!
Not sure if this helps any but I have dinosaurs and they stopped laying eggs for like two seasons. They get petted, let outside to graze, heat in winter, but for some reason went all through spring, summer and most of Fall before finally laying eggs again.
You can get them from the flying dragons in the Skull Cavern. It's not their most common drop but on a 'lucky' day you can usually get a few.
This is what I would suggest. Wear the burglar's ring to double your chances. You will learn to love serpent spawns for their drops almost as much as big slimes.
I had the same thing; it's a result of the animal mood bug Lilliput is talking about. It only affects Sheep, Dinosaurs, and Pigs because they don't have a deluxe product. As for the OP's problem, it's just blind luck. You're waiting for the RNGods to show mercy. The foot is the deluxe rabbit product, so get those bunnies as happy as possible for a high chance. Rabbits aren't affected by the happiness bug.
Try using a hoe on the dirt patches in the Mines. For best results, use an iridium hoe on a "very happy spirits" day while eating a Lucky Lunch. The other three scrolls are level-dependent but Dwarf Scroll IV can be found anywhere. The slimes in the Secret Forest sometimes drop them, too. For a rabbit's foot, all I can say is have patience. Keep your bunnies as happy as possible (i.e. *don't* pet them after they've eaten grass) and someday they'll drop one. They seem to drop them more often during winter, in my experience. I wouldn't bother trying to get one from a flying serpent as the drops are extremely rare; in my current game I don't think they've dropped one in almost four years!
Thanks, I ended up just using the Item Spawner route because of frustration. (Removed the spawner mod right away after, though.)
The easiest place to get dwarf scroll IV is from Hoeing dirt on levels 81+ of the mines. Near as i can tell: Artifacts available from hoeing are available equally on all levels (including Skull Cavern), with the exception of the dwarf scrolls which have specific drop levels. The 2 dolls are the possible exception. Since they are both rarer than the other hoeing artifacts, I'm not sure if they can drop everywhere, but I finally got one of them by going back to an early level. Then the next game it showed up in Skull Cavern. So to get the scroll, determine the level among 81, 91, 101, 111 with the best and closest dirt. Enter via the elevator and 1 ladder and hoe until you find the scroll. If you can't find DS IV, exit and repeat. I can't imagine it would take more than a day or 2 of hoeing mine dirt in this manner to find the scroll.
Yay!! Finally got one (from my first rabbit) - But thank you for all of the suggestions, I had no idea about the "flying serpents" in the Skull cave. I tried that too - just got a lot of spicy eel food drops so far, but only tried a couple of days. This mine is too brutal for me (can you permanently defeat those skeletons?? ) Also didn't know you could dig in that "dirt" in the mines, so gonna try for that scroll now too! <AFTER I go finish up my Community Center >
To defeat the mummies, you need to place a bomb right after you kill them and blow them up, otherwise they just get back up. And they do a LOT of damage, worse than serpents I'm fairly sure.
