Universe not so random after all?

This is more of a personal let down then a complaint but, it seems that world creation is and universe creation isn't as random as i had wrongly believed.

I was under the impression that worlds were procedural generated based upon some seed and that _all_ the content of that world would be random according to that seed. However, I recently found out that once you know, say that pirates exist always at these coordinates it feels to me like it takes a lot of the 'exploration' out of it and replaces it with more of a keep a log of where all the good stuff is at.

I can understand that perhaps for most this isn't an issue. And, this won't stop me from playing the game more as it does have some nice features to it but I would be lying if i wasn't let down by this. Basically the end result is you can create a simple walk through guide of something similar to the following. Like, go to x,y and buy tier 1 guns then go to x,y for this type of dungeon etc. etc.

I was hoping that something like that wouldn't necessarily be possible as it would take out at least for me some of the necessity of actually exploring as it replaces with a walk through. Now I understand that I can just explore myself but for me it just isn't the same. Now I will still play the game as there are many great potential possibilities but perhaps I could ask the developers for an option in the server to do a full randomization. Though this will likely take a while.

Ugh, heard of paragraphing? A wall of text is a little hard to read.

Anyway, that's kind of why they call it procedural generation and not total randomisation. :p

They are randomized. It is just that the planets' coordinates are their seed.

There's going to be random events and quests and stuff, but yeah like minecraft seeds are how the computer logically keeps track of things so there isn't a glitch castle under ground in lava and a avian temple right on top of it.

If you don't want to use coordinates found by other people, don't. Don't try to dictate how other people should play the game.

As for your suggestion at the end, the server host can set a different seed from default for each sector in the celestial.config file, and all worlds created on their server (and their single player universe, which at present is the same one that is hosted on the server) will generate using this seed.

I do agree with the OP's comment. It takes a lot of the desire to explore out when you know you can just type in coordinates and tadaa, you will always get this thing there. Sure the name may change a little bit, the planet might be off slightly, but it's pretty much always going to be the same.

What got me was when I saw something that said "Go to the planet at these coordinates, find this hut and dig down. There will be a chest here." with pictures. THere were minor differences, very minor, but other than that it was exactly the same as their planet. The chest was in the same spot, the frigging cave was the same shape.

Yeah, ever played Minecraft? That's how the planets work, they're seed-based (the coordinates are a form of the "seed"). However, the fact that you can access multiple "seeds" in-game leads to people collaborating to find planets with dungeons, chests, etc. That's your option, though.

Edited so you can read it easier.

I suppose to simplify my dislike is that while yes it is proceduraly generated if pirates are associated to that seed, the world is random but there are always pirates there.

I do agree with OP however, I would like to change the master seed thus randomizing all other seeds (Keep them obviously but move them around.)

I think they are still working on planet generation anyway.

Just wanted to say nice image.

You mean I actually have to control my actions? Lame.

As for OP- Here's your full randomization option: click the 'go random' button and don't pay attention to the coords. You're complaining about an easy path you actually have to go out of your way for. That's like using cheat codes because they're there.

I don't think you understand how a seeded RNG works.

I mean, it is kind of hard to fight the urge to cheat when there's a button that says "CHEAT" right in front of you (just an example). However, that's not how the coords in-game work. Unless you're going out of your way to check the coordinates, then this shouldn't even matter.
Oh, my profile pic? Thanks :)

It is stated that the game is procedurally generated which means it uses seeds much like Minecraft.
So yes, if you input the same seed, you'll get the same things. :p

I am not trying to dictate to anyone how they should play the game. Did you even read what I posted? This is simply commentary of my personal feelings on this issue and I acknowledge that for many players it isn't an issue.

I see what you mean. I was just trying to find a parallel without immediately devolving into saying this is a stupid complaint.

Thats exactly what I like.^^ I don't like people that post nice coordinates in the forum. What I would like at least in the final game is that not the whole sector is accessible, but you start in one system, don't have any other in your nav and by the Go random button you simply jump to random coords and discover them (so you can only travel to system you find and not to coords other players spoiler to you).

How random did you expect it, though? With so many worlds, the game can't randomly generate each one like Terraria. There's also the issue of structures, camps, and the like.

Honestly I didn't understand how the seeding worked. I did play Terraria and Minecraft but not in any great detail. But, from the explanations it does make sense why it would be exceeding hard to implement.
