Am I the only one who thinks unique race skills have been forgotten? like how an avian can fly higher or is atleast lighter in skeleton therefor jumps higher/ or are faster on land than anyone? the floran is a plant therefor heals faster due to nutrition from the ground or photosynthesis. the hylotl is a fish therefor much faster in the water and/ or oceanplanets/dungeons the glitch are machines therefor carry something amazing technological(fill in your idea here) apex might be stronger with melee but slower... and for gasbag more guns and higher energy regen? anyways these are yust some ideas. not sure if anyone agrees.
Given that they've said lots of times before that they're planning on working on racial armor bonuses later on, I'd say there's no reason to think they've decided not to until they say that they have.
Armor set bonuses are already planned, and the devs aren“t going to add racial bonuses outright because that would cause people to pick them up for their bonuses, rather than their cosmetic traits (Ship design and dialogue):
I want to see racial bonuses, largely because they are logical in pretty much every way as opposed to "every race is the same except for appearance" which leads to Hylotls which live in and drown under water. People picking races because of racial bonuses instead of appearance and culture? Why should we care? People will pick what people will pick. People already choose Florans and, I think, Hylotls more than any other race - I don't think minor encouragements to choose other races is necessarily a bad thing. Plus, I want to see custom races with race-specific bonuses. I.e. for the Gallavoir, I hope to create a sense that they have less durability and more prevalent energy (less HP, higher Energy and Energy Regen rate), but I can only do that by restricting a players armor choices - I don't like the thought of that. I'll talk with metadept about this, maybe...
They already said they don't want that. Others than you have tried to change that. It did not work. Minor encouragements that limit content from other players who choose a race different from that one are the worst idea. Armor based racials are the best because any race can get them once they get the blueprint. End of story
Yes, but that, in turn, limits the uniqueness of each race and sacrifices logic by making them all the exact same. I don't like that, and I know why they made it that, so I will try to change their minds even if just a little - try to get it easily modded in.
And yet Chucklefish hss strived to make as many aspects of each race as unique as possible - unique cultures, unique origins, unique architecture style... So, what you're saying is that the backstory to the game is pointless.
Guys, I don't see what point you're trying to argue, when Tiy is completely against racial skills being unobtainable for other races. I don't think anything is going to change his mind.
I worded that wrong. What I meant is MECHANICAL Uniqueness is pointless. The lore and the backstory is where the difference in races should lie in Starbound. Not in the gameplay. Hardbinding special traits outside of armors that can be worn by anyone is the WORST idea. And like the person above me said, Tiy has already decided how it's going to be and it's not changing.
Why is mechanical weakness "pointless" and "the WORST idea" possible? You've said nothing to support such an assertion beyond that Tiy holds the current opinion that he does not like it.
Because you limit content to certain races. Like for example the hylotls get water breathing. Then they can immediately get to the ocean planet content or they instantly have an advantage digging since they don't have to breathe when they hit a giant pocket of water. I've given PLENTY of examples why in the past and I will not waste my time repeating myself for you. Also that would split the party of multi racials in multiplayer if the other races can't last under water but hey hylotl Roshi can stay down there as much as he wants cause lol he's a Hylotl
Except you do not do so unless you only implement racial abilities. If, for example, you implement the Hylotl ability to breathe underwater without aid, you can also implement an underwater breathing apparatus which allows any character to breathe underwater. That they can immediately survive water isn't an issue either - are you forgetting the Ocean planets are caked with radiation and cannot be survived without the appropriate nanosuit tech? Of course you are. You are trying to overexaggerate the balance impact of a hypothetical feature and pretend you've got a leg to stand on. I'd say that the party system would benefit from each race having unique traits. If "Roshi" had the ability to stand underwater without qualms, he could be assigned to focus on digging out areas that have too much water while other characters do other things above the water. ALSO:
If anything, you should point out that, in order to go to an Ocean planet, you first need to get a nanoskin. It would be better to, in order to give reasons to pick up all races, give each of them unique weapons, similarily to how Novakids can craft guns, but not melee weapons. In fact, I already did a suggestion for it.
This is similar to the solution that's planned. What Tiy wants to do is tie abilities to racial armor, so that although any race can get any ability, you'll get your own race's ability faster than anybody else. What you proposed is the same thing, just you forego the (very short) period of time in between character creation and tier 1 armor. I think what you said is a pretty good compromise, but again, good luck convincing Chucklefish.
I guess at times it might not Always be a good idea but the uique aspect makes this game amazing and cool. so thats why I did that suggestion. to tie it to armor is ghood I suppose. but generally walking speed/jumping height would get affected I guess. (in some cases). all of this is nothing solid yet. and prolly we will have to wait but its good to think about options rather than not being able to do stuff. I kinda love the extras but also the contra's are logical so in a sense I would say yep. go for the armor tiy! and in general I think they deserve the kudos for having to deal with all the players selfish requests. including this one I suppose.
I do agree that I'd pick my race if it had a much better racial than other, but usually just off looks and I think it should stay that way.>~<
