I was watching Starbound stream and was noticing the creatures (Mobs) and was wondering if there are going to be different types. I noticed ground, flying, ranged, melee, fast etc. However I am hoping for more diversity in later tiers (and I'm sure there all ready doing this) adding more types of mobs like subterranean creatures (much like Terraria's Worms) and teleporting Mobs, But I am looking forward to new types and more diverse traits. ie. Invisible traits Invisible units could emit light and be completely unoticeable or not even produce light Tethered traits Tethered traits much like Terraria where Man eaters were attached to a block and can only go a certain distance. Bombing attack could be used by a flying mob that literally drops projectiles that are affected by gravity that splash ground with damage Artillery attack Artillery attacks would have a curved projectile that could potentially go over terrain or objects with a splash affect Vacuum traits/attacks Vacuum abilities could be things that pull or push the player towards/away a mob or object and many more... Tethered characteristics much like in Terraria with Man eaters (Picture below) Where a mob would be attached to a single block or location and only allowed to travel and attack "X" amount of distance. "X" being the mobs allowed distance. I am sure we will see this characteristic in Starbound but I wan to see other traits and abilities as well. I'll post more in a bit. Hopefully this explains sort of what i mean by Unique characteristics.
I'm with you. Honestly, I don't see any reason not to include all these and more. At first I thought by unique you meant one-of-a-kind, named, monsters (sort of like mini-bosses) that are more powerful versions of normal ones, much like the unique and legendary enemies of Diablo and Torchlight.
It sort of makes me wonder, why can't the attacks of the creature be partially based on the pieces that make up the creature?
Through the random generator based on the pieces. So say the creature has slug like legs which could cause it to leave a trail (slime or whatnot) that may cause damage or the like (and other things like that).
