My suggestion is for an underground culture to be implemented at some point to the game. However, I understand this could be too controversial or in-fact add beyond the maturity of the game itself, So it would really matter at what target-age Chuchklefish wants to keep the game at. We have all seen in Star Trek to Star Wars with Jabba The Hutt, that in the universe there is always prostitution, smuggling, robbery, ship hijacking, drugs, gambling..The list goes on. What if when NPC's are added we can go to a certain planet that is inhabited, that is ofcourse coming from another suggestion that we have city planets, and interact with NPCs that are already involved in illegal activity and go from there. I feel like the possibilities are endless.......Ideas, comments, more suggestions, lets go!
So, while I am 100% on board with this being put into the game, I do somewhat question it's feasibility, or even if the average player would want it. Consider; for a black market to exist, it must be trading in goods that are forbidden. For those goods to be forbidden, there must be a consequence for purchasing them. As it stands, NPCs are not able to put up much of a fight even if you invade their homes and they have to fight for their lives. It'd be a bit odd for them to get more capable just to stop you from buying contraband. However, like I said I like the idea; in fact it gave -me- an idea. Now, this would require a pretty big change, or at least expansion, of current systems in game, but I think it would be worth it. Let me break it down a bit: 1) Advancement between tiers should be more fluid, and based not on defeating a boss, but on what technology you've either learned to use yourself, or traded for. 2) Cultures on the galactic scale have formed a sort of alliance or council (federation?) that prohibits the trade of advanced technology. 3) Your race has either been kicked off the council (like the humans for being nearly wiped out) or never were on the council (Florans) or just specifically asked for you to be classified as a new species and thus not qualify for the council under their name (the Glitch). The result of this would be that at the start of the game, you'd be classified as a primitive, and could climb the ranks as you went. This would provide a tiered system, though far more flexible than simply needing to defeat a boss. It would also allow for a trade path, by earning enough funds to buy from what are essentially tech scalpers, and would give a reason for an outside third part to be very interested in cracking down on the sale of that tech.
This would certainly add more depth and manner into the game itself, so yes I agree a progression system is needed.
