This can come in a certain variety: 1. Wilderness/jungle a. Prehistoric relative to the surface world b. Weird, "wtf is this place" kind of biome 2. Underground cities a. Futuristic - made by a civilization for nuclear fallout or what not b. "Primitive" - e.g. mole people thoughts?
Well, the underground biomes should vary per planet, which I'm sure is what you meant. For example, on a planet that's mostly irradiated and desert-like, then there should be the nuclear fallout underground "vaults". But, whether or not they are populated or not (if the people made it down in time) should be randomly generated to give each planet a different feel. It would be kinda cool yet creepy to explore a completely deserted yet life-supporting area.
I'm sure they will be implemented as they worked well in Terraria, but I would definitely like to see more diversity. I really like the idea of a vault, especially if the surface is irradiated and you can explore it for weapons and possibly survivors. I am a huge Fallout fan so I'd love to see that.
I would looove to see this implemented. I always wanted to see a bit more underground in Terraria besides the chest rooms.
Starbound should have certain planets with empty, desolate surfaces, but lots of surprises underground. Journey to the Center of the Earth is a good trope-setter, but also remember things like Forbidden Planet, with the psionic machinery of the Krell buried under the surface, The Time Machine, with the underground Morlock mechanisms, or even The Mole People, with a lost ancient race having evolved into creepy albino people.
There would be no way for this game to NOT have underground biomes, and as far as I can tell it was planned from the start for every different planetary 'habitat' to have seperate biomes for above and below ground.
I recently had the same idea of having underground biomes but instead of it being a part of the planet, it's what the planet is based on like a ocean planet or a ice planet. http://community.playstarbound.com/...lanet-focused-entirely-on-cave-systems.29248/ Another person had the same idea too with a story about a explorer being stranded to go with it. http://community.playstarbound.com/...-worlds-unique-life-forms-and-ai-ideas.20408/ Maybe the developers could use all of them?
I like this idea. I can already see myself going toe to toe with a T-rex in a giant underground jungle!
i played a game that had biome with very tall, black trees, a very dense, green miasma and finally some rain with thunders i wonder how the part of the rain and thunders are even possible (obviously there won't be any miasma/fog in the game) and you were a small red guy that has a flamethrower as his only defense againist some mutants while you explore the underground building. Maybe this would make a very creepy biome.
I like this idea a lot, but as someone above said, I would be very surprised if this was not being implemented already. I think we can look forward to such an idea being implemented in the game.
This would make exploration incredibly fun. Landing on a planet and having no idea what to expect when you search underneath is such an awesome concept. I thought it would be cool if there were planets covered in ice and one had to scale down deep canyons in the ice to get to the ocean underneath and on the bottom there would be underwater cities.
