    :Tidally locked planet:
A planet "locked" by gravity to it's star, making it so day and night are PLACES, not times. Giving a day side and a night side. This would mean that you could simply walk from day to night. While this alone could be interesting, there is more to it. The day side would be a burning wasteland, full of heat. (If you need heat biased gear in this game, You're going to need it here, planets like this could easily get up to hundreds of degrees at the low end), due to the fact that the sun stays over one place forever. The other side ever frozen, and forever dark. The middle "twilight" would be the safest and least deadly place (and a good place for the ship to land)

Due to MASSIVE differences in tempacure from one side of the planet to the other, massive wind storms blow from day to night, leaving behind strange rock formations

Life on these planets could be home to a lot of life forms, you wouldn't see the same thing on day side or night side, and flying life forms could use wind to their advantage.

Planets like this could be a matter of degrees as well, as suggested by Amossk, this could be a matter of degrees, one tidally locked planet have day be a slightly warm forest, and the night a slightly cold area (witch doesn't make sense, but gameplay first right) in others, the day side could be barren rock, high noon (witch is a place) being molen, with night being frozen, and midnight being as dark as it can get, and the some of the coldest places in the game.

    :Gas giants:
A very common in the universe, yet normally not very good for game play, a good way I think to deal with this are gas giant bases, large metal buildings and complex with in the gas giant, blocking the super pressurized outside with danger from breaking walls casing an explosive decompression of large parts of the base (only stopped by automatic air locks) filling the rooms almost instantly with deadly gas (you can't breath it, it's full of deadly cemicals, and is moving so fast as to grind your bone to dust) and blocking access to that area for anyone else
A detail I think would be nice is back ground windows showing the pattern of gasses and reminding you how unstable the place you are is if things get damaged...
This places would be like populated by sentient and technologically advanced foes
    :Moons:
could be as varied as planets, but much smaller, as a nice little area to have. Also would have the planet in question in the background very large most likely
    :Lost Planet:
Removed from it's parent star, more then that... these planets are lost from there galaxy. So far out that the stars in the sky are dim. Light is a rare thing here. Be careful what you light up... something may want your light souse...
    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
These are just basic cores, and I'm still working on typing up a few more, but I wanted to see what people though of them, mostly the tidally locked planet. These ideas will all be biased on things known to current science

I would love to colonize a gas giant planet, they would be perfect for threat level 100 planets

I think gas giants would be cool. You could have a Bespin. :)

Windows in the background showing the deadly gas would be a nice touch to remind you where you are. I forgot to add that to the first post

I approve of these unique planets.

Well they did say that different planets would have varying day/night cycles. Maybe perpetual day or night will be included.

But also how the world would change as a
Tidally locked planet is a part of the idea. While just permanent day night that you can walk to and from would be cool on it's own, the rest of the idea I feel is interesting.

My brain must have blanked out while I read your post. I just realized that you said you could travel from the day to night side and vice versa and experience all the weather and temperature changes. That is a much cooler idea.

Anything I can do to make it more clear?

Although these suggestions are great, I seem to have a small problem with the Gas Giants.
If I were to explain it verbally it would be long and endless, so instead, I'll just dramatize it.

Me:*goes to a Gas giant planet* Well this is awkward, I should check it out*scouts the area and after a while finding it awesome* Ok that's It Im going back to base and set this as my Home Planet!*Out of a failure in inventory checking and accidental clicking, I throw a bomb, run the other way and the bomb breaks the walls, decompressing the area and sealing the area up, along with his only way to the ship* ... FUUUUUUUUUUU--

That astronaut would be so useful there in so many cases... Other than that no problem.

    now that would be horrible

clearly they would have to be made out of stuff thats not easy to bomb, but yeah, thats a danager there.

No,no. I understand perfectly and support what you were saying. It was just a reading/comprehension error on my part.

I like all 3 of those ideas, so here are my thoughts on them in order.

The "fixed rotation" planets would be quite interesting, especially if they were done right. I could even see different "degrees" of such planets being done to add to their uniqueness (for example, one might have a desert on one side and a tundra on the other, while another might have a magma-covered hellish wasteland on one side and a sub-zero never-ending blizzard on the other)

As for gas giants, the only issue I can find is that it may be a bit hard to make a convincing surface for the planets. If that was worked around though then it would be an interesting end-game challenge. Many scientific theories and sci-fi works could be used as inspiration for unique creatures to inhabit the planet as well, so I have no doubt that they would be an interesting place to explore.

Moons sound quite nice, especially for early game exploration, but I fear they could become boring without some unique gameplay elements of their own. for example, unique moon-only aliens, unique events, and low gravity.

I would like to see some kind of flying creatures on gas-giants, I think it would be fitting.

    Spaaaaaaaaaaaace Drones?

    Thank you most kindly

I like the way you think, mind if I edit into the main post?

Well there isn't a surfice so much as a building floating in the clouds, you can see outside, becuse outside is just gas that kills you, and theres nor doors outside (why would there be) the building itself would be "floating" in the gas

Low gravity smaller versons of other worlds could be all you need I think

The idea was that you never go outside, but still seeing something in the gas threw the windows every once in a while would be nice

  18. Amossk

    Amossk Orbital Explorer

Sure, I don't mind if you edit the main post.

Also, I think it might make gas giants more interesting to be on if you could go outside, but it was extremely hard to do so. For example, you would need the strongest -or second strongest- armor/suit to go out, as well as some sort of high end HP regeneration item. And even then you could only survive a short time. That way gas giants would still be a very dangerous place to live for anyone, but they could still have some exploration elements to them, something for people to work for end game. Unless you hack the game, you're never going to explore an entire gas giant no matter what, so they would still keep some element of mysterious, deadly beauty to them.

  19. Space Sphere

    Space Sphere Scruffy Nerf-Herder

I know, but mabye you could wear a special gas-mask like thing?
if you COULD, gas-giants should have solid cores, with treasures on them to make it worth while.
And there should be flying things.
Lots of flying demon-eyeball creature things.
