ULTRA VIOLET LIGHTING Ultra violet lighting is something i just realized would be awesome to have in starbound. Now, why do would we need this you ask? well some rocks in real life glow under ultra violet light and if those rocks looked just like the rocks around them then you wouldn't be able to tell how special they are without the U.V. light. Therefore there could be hidden resources only noticeable by using a U.V. flashlight. Also there could be Monsters in the deep underground that are invisible unless seen under U.V. light. Also U.V. lights can be used to find gases normally invisible to the naked eye. By shining your light in the gas you will see it glow and know that you should stay away from it because it could be toxic. So there's allot of potential for U.V. lighting! Some Things underground could even give off ultra violet light and could only be seen using special goggles. Here are some ideas of resources you would need Ultra violet lighting to see or have to do with this subject. Heelite [heal-eye-t] Desc: a rock that gives off ultra violet light. Normally it looks black but using ultra violet goggles it appears to glow blue. Used in making things that emit ultra violet light. Pneumatite [new-ma-tight] Desc: a Rock found underground. It seems to have special gravitational properties. Glows pink under ultra violet light. Uses in magnets and things. Flourophylia [floor-oh-feel-E-a] Desc: a mossy plant that grows underground. It can react to ultra violet light and turn into a man eating plant if you shine ultra violet light on it! If you are careful and collect it before it is angered you can use its oil for healing. Dermite [derr-my-t] Desc: another rock found underground That shines dark red underground, however it also gives off large amounts of heat and can melt your skin off if touched when under ultra violet light. If too much ultra violet light is absorbed it may explode. Useful in Creating explosives and some tactical tools. Heres some items crafted using these resources Water-be-gone grenade Crafted using Dermite this grenade will heat up under sunlight and the heat will turn any water around it to steam Ultra Violet Flashlight (also called black light) Crafted using Heelite. shine this anywhere and u can emit ultra violet light. however it emits a very low frequency of ultra violet light and can only effect very sensitive materials (every material listed above). Uses electricity to be powered. High frequency ultra violet light (H.F.U.V.L.) could be the next step up. As we all know the suns ultra violet light can damage our skin. Using materials that emit more U.V. light there could be weapons for the more organic enemies. Here is an example of something that emits high amounts of ultra violet light. Phylia ointment Used with the Flourophylia, it can heal burns or any damage to your skin. Solaride Desc: found drifting in space on meteorites. normally invisible without ultra violet goggles. This material emits so much U.V. light it can break some U.V. goggles if looked at for too long. It is highly unstable and is highly explosive. mining it is very difficult. getting too close to it without the right type of armor can turn your skin inside out (slight exaggeration, but it is deadly). H.F.U.V.L. grenade made using solaride and some dermite, can explode with a massive radius and anything organic is turned to toast (delicious buttery toast) however anything else within the radius is still blown to pieces. H.F.U.V.L. laser Made using Solaride and Heelite, it can be shined at enemies that are organic and will damage them. The longer it is shined the greater the damage. It is ineffective against machines and can ignite Dermite and cause an explosion. H.V.U.V.L. Flashlight similar to the laser, it damages organics and ignites Dermite, however its light effects a larger area but is less concentrated and therefore weaker. Now with all this ultra violet light things start to get a bit dangerous. wouldn't want to get cancer would we? and that Solaride is pretty cancer inducing so to keep yourself safe from ultra violet light you will need Oronite. Oronite Desc: a dark rock found on the surface of planets that absorbs Ultra violet light and actually can turn it into power or electricity, making it useful for taking harmful ultra violet and making it into a good clean energy source. Oronite gel Orinite mixed with Flourophylia can make a ointment that protects your skin from ultra violet light. keeping you safe from prolonged Heelite exposure and on those planets that are just too close to the sun. Oronite armor For those high amounts Solaride you really want to mine you will need Oronite armor! made from a little oronite gel and lots more oronite. Keeps you safe from that solaride and when you want to take a walk around the sun. Warning, may not protect from anything else including toxic gas explosions and cats. Oronite heavy armor For those people who don't like a cat killing them when wearing Oronite armor near the sun, you need this! Made from oronite armor and other heavy defensive materials such as platinum.

It's planets and environments. But ya, it should be in Blocks. The way UV light works with rocks is that they phosphores under uv light, giving off normal light. So it could be a toggle on the flashlight to turn of the regular light and turn on uv light, so the regular light doesn't drown it out.
It's a good idea which would make the game a lot more interesting. Another idea would be UV ink, for writing secret messages which are only visible under UV light.
i wish there was a section in the forum for just on big subject. or all around. i always want to make an idea thats not just one thing sitting there, id rather it relate to other things and branch out. id like to post ideas for creatures, items, ores, environments, and more but all having to do with ultra violet light but the fact that i have to seperate each idea makes it difficult because people will have to go from one thread to another finding out how to get the resources to make an item and then what the item can be used for and so on...
