Hat a chat with some friends about such game mechanic and they all like it. Puts a bit teamplay into using some of the more "powerfull" units and sure is nice to get around with someone together. I would also love to have something like an APC where you can stuff a couple of people into it while one is the driver, maybe one behind a turret and all the others just ride along
And if possible i would even jump out during full speed, just to let my buddies take a nice dive of the next cliff We very much like to fool around from time to time
Thank you guys for your comments! I'm quite confident that something like this will be added, I mean it's a must for a multiplayer game with vehicles! It would be so much fun to drive tanks or mechs together with friends!
I am fine with cooperative vehicles as long as they be properly alone because you don't always have your friends with you to use a vehicle.
Well, indeed. Or you could simply have other vehicle types for just one player! I mean of course the several players thing works fine with larger vehicles which would be impossible to fully manage with just one keyboard and mouse (controlling several turrets is just impossible).
After watching Starcraft players, i can say that is VERY improbably, not impossible... And perhaps very pilot-demanding vehicles could have some basic AI, so single players could pilot them as well. But basic, so only various pilots can really use the vehicle in beautifully full capacity!
Like with most games, if there is more than 1 turret than usually all of the turrets point at the same thing for simplicity sake.
Yeah, let's put some giant Power Rangers like robot for five people. I loved driving a vehicle with my friend in Borderlands, so in Starbound it should be even more fun, because there is some difference between normal sized car and giant robot
Now this is something I like. ! Im sure someone else has said it before, but one person driving and another person shooting? Perhaps an alternate single-player mode where you lock the second player place, and play by yourself? Though that might defeat the entire purpose of the vechile, hrmph...
Yes, driver and gunners was obviously already mentioned, and for the single-player thing, Alpha_Squad mentioned that every turret could aim in the same direction (the one you'd point with your mouse) for the sake of simplicity, which is something I agree on
Even though I don't expect seeing multiple seats on vehicles, I'd love to have one of these drop ships from the screenshots that has space for some troops so me and my buddies could travel around in style. For a land vehicle alternative, an APC of some sorts. Basically vehicles that can transport more than 2 players/NPCs per time.
Yeah, I don't think there should be forced co-op. Sometimes it just doesn't work. And it wouldn't be fair restricting those who play alone. Besides, people tend to mess around. 'Move foward!' 'Okay.' 'That's BACKWARDS!' 'Argh, we're going off the cliff!' *Trollface*
Hey, that's one of the things that makes it fun But yeah, again, it would be perfectly possible to pilot the same vehicles with only one person, but the possibility of having separate gunners is always fun and useful (less multitasking for the pilot). For me, vehicles should always be a synonym for cooperation.
Just imagine it, AC-130 VERSUS AC-130 TIMES A HUNDRED. (Faints from sheer awesomeness) I support this thread. But it also begs the question what if we combined everyones suggestions? IE A repairmen could take up one Slot in a vehicle, so you could get repaired BUT you would be less efffective as you don't have as many people shooting at your enemy. For instance, say a tank has 4 slots, one driver, 3 slots left, i put in a secondary gunner, 2 slots left, i put in a repairman, one slot left, i put in a main gunner, no spots left. This could also be a very easily balanced for certain vehicles, as repairman could repair by percent rather than HP, so it means that Heavy vehicles would benefit more from having 2 or 3 repairmen, whereas a light vehicle would benefit less from having a repariman/repairmen. Take this for example: Jeep: 4000 HP: Repairman repairs it 1% per second (40HP Per second) so let's a assign a ratio of 40. Tank: 16000 HP: Repairman repairs it 1% per second (160HP per second) so let's assign a ratio of 160. 160>40. Simple. Though, it's somewhat broken through and through. God, 256 vs 256 with bombers tanks and heavy mechs (And i mean HEAVY mechs, as in Warhammer 40K mechs. I don't mean Dreadnaughts, no, i mean the bigger, much MUCH bigger counterparts: Don't know their name but trust me, they are HUGE. Last time i checked they where 500 Feet or so tall) and rocket launchers. (Aneurysm from even more awesomeness)
Interesting ideas I like it because if you have a server with 10 people for example instead of having 10 mechs on the surface you only have 5 or so which I like and would make it less cheap.
