Just throwing this idea out there since I haven't seen many games let you make turrets anymore. I know they can be a bit over powered on the games that do have them so maybe a limit of how many you could have deployed at the same time. I also though that being able to make turrets on wheels that could follow you or patrol a certain area would be useful. I didn't spend a great amount of time on these, but I just wanted to give an example.

Your designs aren't bad, pictures always make a suggestion better! But this has been suggested a few times, Theres an active thread on this same topics page right now. Also I believe they already plan to have turrets in game, which is awesome
i REALLY want turrets in this game, i think its going to be essential for all my super-doom-base plans, i'l mod them in if there aren't any to start with i think if you just make them expensive to make and also give them an energy prerequisite it should stop most over-production, what with heavy steel doors, mechs, energy based weapons, lighting maybe? if it were energy dependent then this is little problem until you get a huge base, i would make flying turrets that patrol for jetpack people and flying enemies, driving ones that support my light machine guns on the outskirts, rocket turrets for the roof and sniper turrets for above the entrance, i'l put a HMG turrets right in my entrance with a powerful laser-grid. this is going to take allot of generators in the basement so il need like landmines down there to keep anyone from digging in and disabling my defenses. this could be allot of defensive (or stick em on a car and attack!) power. tesla turrets, ice turrets, fire turrets and boulder launchers? (just about all tower defense game has those four) anti air towers seem obligatory, i thought of a grappling tower, it shoots grappling arms and grabs jetpacking enemies and wont let them go above a specific altitude within a radius of the turret.
I'm glad they are going to put turrets in the game then, it would be a shame to have a futuristic based game that did not have any artificial intelligence that could help you out. I did have an idea for a 3D tower defense game a couple of years ago so I do have a fair few ideas for friendly AI and what each of them could do so I hope they have at least a fair few of those in the game at some point. I played a game called "Giants citizen kabuto" which on the base building levels they had limits on how many turrets you could build, I thought this would be a good idea since having too many turrets could make the game too easy, plus, it would cause the game to lag and possibly crash. I know they could go a few ways about how the turrets are going to be: 1) The turrets aren't too hard to make, but they would only be good for support fire and taking down minor enemys. 2) The turrets would be really hard to make, but they would be very useful at fighting any enemy if in range. (like the dwarf cannon on Runescape) 3) You would need to find blueprints before you'll be able to build Turrets, which are fairly rare. and so on... They said they were going to add a lot to the game but I don't know if Turrets will be a major thing or just a cool little addition.
i see, good input by the way! i think this would be ok exept in the event there are monsters who might harass your towns or wreck your house, but you wont have a town for a while and can make a cleverly built house to avoid such a monster (so long as it cannot fly) so this problem is solvable. the only issue i see with this then is the turrets may not be worth the trouble of making, if there costly and also weak, i would want something to kill the monsters or players in my house unauthorized or hostile monsters who spawn at my front door, i saw this happen on one of the dev streams with tiy and molly where this happened and i was thinking "all we need now is a few good taters...turrets, i meant turrets" so if there ineffective i hope i can use a TON of them but this requires allot of room, if there strong i'l only need one but there hard to make. from the sound of it we will infact need to research things before we build them so the idea of blueprints might be just what we need. i like it!
Keep in mind, I have no proof that turrets are confirmed, I just recall vaguely hearing something about them being implemented But Its highly possible!
With the amount of time they have to work on this game I doubt they would overlook the idea. If this game is going to be more advanced than Terraria (which had bosses like the Destroyer of worlds and the Twins) then programming mounted turrets really shouldn't be a problem.
