There could be a black hole type thing in the "middle" that sucks you in or poisonous gass or high pressure before you have to worry about making a "core"

Noooooooo, leave limitations to Minecraft and Terraria. I don't want to hit bedrock or a convenient ocean / invisible wall. A core seems like the most reasonable end to digging down. Just like looping is the most reasonable way to travel left and right.

but that means making smaller and smaller blocks that are at an angle to each other. at least if the pressure and gass stops you its more natural.:geek:

I don't think it will work like that. From what I can see the world will loop but won't get smaller as you go down. Like this (Someone else said this but I'm not sure who, comment if it was you..) -

You wouldn't be able to come out the other side though. The diagram is pretty much what I meant. :)

Yep I give up, the only way to implement going straight through is having a spherical earth, which will be too hard to add in. As I said earlier it would be interesting to use it on something like a moon or asteroid, an object that isn't as big as a planet and has no core.

  7. bounding star

You would have to be able to dig through an asteroid, yep.
The evil upsidown world would have to imitate a huge interior chasm which would be cool but you wouldn't have to go through the core to get to it.

According to the diagram you do.

Are you calling the diagram a liar? Cause the diagram doesn't lie, to insist that it does is just insulting.

Oh wait the diagrams lying, my bad.

Once you hit the bottom/center of the core the camera could flip so that it would be right side up. Just my 2c.

If the camera flips does the gravity flips as well?

If so then you would just fall into the hole you created to get to the center.

Yep that's the problem that keeps making my head hurt. Kind of like the hyperbolic time chamber in DBZ. I also wonder how the liquid core would act, being flipped and all.

  12. Witness

    Witness Giant Laser Beams

Problem? If we really go with making it only minimally rational, I find that the solution is rather obvious. First, you'd probably use a vessel to travel through the core. I doubt that even really powered and shielded power armour could withstand the environment without being overpowered and frankly, ridiculous. And if vehicle would be in use I don't see why after passing through the center of the planet one cannot keep on going against the gravity with the momentum reinforced by good ol' thrusters at full.

The real problem I see would be making the hole through the whole planet to travel through without the whole place becoming messed up in the process.

Wouldn't you be crushed by gravity nearing the center?

  14. Sol Pruina

Well, a liquid core would just gather at the barycenter. That's in real life/3D.

The main problem we have here is that the game is a 2D-Platformer.

    How can you get this:
with a 2D game that has a fixed camera?

I don't know, I really don't know. originally I was just curious as to whether it would be possible to tunnel through. Either way if you can or can't (According to GeorgeV the Dev, it's the latter) I will still be over the moon with the game. ;)

  18. Vespers

    Vespers Pangalactic Porcupine

IMHO... the only logical thing to do is just make a Machine that imaginary digs through the center of the earth for you... so the game just does this. Because if it was possible to go through the center. Tiy would have trouble with even more coding on his hands. And I'd have to explain why it would be so difficult. @-@ ... On a graphical scale...

We shall call this machine the ZEEM!
Zenter of the Earth Elevator Machine Thing! which will send you to another spot on the loop instead.

Imagine imaginary sections on the surface layer. marked 1 through 12 for simple easier understanding...

    s1 s2 s3 s4 s5 s6 s7 s8 s9 s10 s11 s12- loops
    ------------------;---------------------- ; You dug here.
    ---------------------------------------------- dirt...
    ------------------;---------------------- ;
    --------------Zeem 2---------------- ZEEM 1
======================== Bedrock you shouldn't be able to dig through
    Core
    =======================
    NOTHING... so don't bother..

After you activate the ZEEM 1 S12, another Zeem 2 will appear at S6. Creating the Illusion of a round world. Through a simple Cartoon rotating background.... thing.

Now why it would be pretty damn nutty to work with, if you can just dig a straight line to the center of the earth.

Now if it was possible... then the line from S12 straight through the center should also meet up with s6 graphically speaking. BUT the world is still flat... now tell me how you're going to make the tunnel from s12 and s6 show on the screen at the same time after you pass the core O_O... and have a camera illusion flip moment...

... We shall then remove all of that silly liquid melted stuff, and then replace it with snacks!

Hmmm...i wonder what will happen when you freeze the core?
 Maybe you could adjust the planet's climate by heating and cooling it's core! And later you build a machine so you don't have to change it's temperature manually!

  20. Witness

    Witness Giant Laser Beams

Well, probably putting the layers in reverse order and flipping the screen upside down as mentioned would do.
Still, as most people can already see, the digging-through thing would take considerable amount of work, quite far more than it's really worth it when allowing to go around the planet would be so much easier. I'd rather vote for simplified idea with player who digs straight down reaching sooner or later an ocean of magma which can be traversed through with proper, very advanced and heat-resistant armor/vehicle only up to the certain depth where it'd be instakill (get it darker shade of the magma's colour) and we're done with this.
