I don't know if anyone has suggested this and frankly I don't care so, jeronimo!

Have you ever seen the fake walls in Dark Souls, or the ones in Final Fantasy III? Their pretty much exactly what they sound to be. Like if you're looking around with a flashlight in some random ruin of some old building and what not. There'd be corridors that are apparently dead ends but there's something missing, there seems to be more blocks behind the "dead end" your Starbound instincts tell you there's an invisible wall ahead. You're thinking, no way they haven't implemented that into the game. But, the creative side of you gets the best of you and you continue walking, you surprisingly you go through the wall!

What I'm trying to get to is, you can't see through the blocks, light cannot pass through these blocks. They would be dungeon blocks and wouldn't be breakable like the dungeon blocks, you need to destroy the dungeon guardian or whatever. Its been nice discussing this awesome topic with you guys and hope you'd enjoyed it

    Until next time,
    Zen

well as long as these blocks can only been found underground than it works. 2d games make it rather difficult to have hidden blocks like this but as long as they are underground then it works just fine.

oh...i dunno; i have yet to see them in 2d! i would ask which ones you've played but that would de-rail the thread a bit(i think)

I think this would be cool for abandoned space ships and bases, you can find hidden chests =D

I think it's better if you can mine them and use them to make traps (deadly deadly traps  MWAHAHAHAHAHA!!!)

You know, for enemies... if also mobs and enemy NPCs sees them as normal blocks you can replace the normal floor with them and create an invisible trap that goes in a pit of spikes/acid/lava or whatever you want, or you can build secret passageways... great thing to have them!

I think the devs have already vetoed this kind of block. They don't want to have blocks the hide things on the same layer as the player. Not that I'm against it, just that's what I remember seeing/hearing from several similar posts.

Ok but at least blocks like active stone in terraria and some other way to trigger them (like a camera, a proximity sensor, a photocell or similars)

They don't want blocks that are in the foreground, but as far as I know they haven't said anything about potential hologram blocks that disappear when you touch them. They don't want anything that obstructs vision of the player character without you being able to remove it in-game. For example, you can remove darkness by having a light source handy, but Chucklefish decided that there is no visually appealing way to handle foreground objects without it being easy to abuse. I'm really hoping for hologram blocks, though, because they don't seem very broken to me-- not more so than active/inactive blocks and such.

Of course, with the addition of active/inactive versions of any kind of block, why would you need hologram blocks?

I've just seen other people who wanted to have foreground blocks that disappear when you are in the same room as them (for hidden bases/buildings) and that was declared as 'not gonna happen', so I thought this would be along the same lines, but maybe not. I personally like the idea, buuuut...
That sounds like a really good idea, but I could see the 'wiring' being really complicated since Starbound uses a very different system...
