On a side note, I met Lord British at my last job. He was visiting his father (he spent a lot of time in the building our office was in) and stopped by to see some of the projects we were working on. First ever father/son to have both been astronauts...pretty cool stuff.

Honestly, he was pretty pre-occupied on the day I met him, but I was new to the business and got struck by an unexpected bit of fan-nervousness I've met famous people before and it's never phased me, but something about 'this is a guy that created games I loved as a kid' hit me and I had to fight not to revert to being a 10-year old. Pretty much just ended up walking around with him for a while showing off different projects with the president of my company.

It might sound funny, but the closest thing I can compare him to was the character Malcolm from the first Jurassic Park. Was dressed all in black and had that geeky-quasi-rockstar thing going ; )

 

Gonna go in as an Apex and build the Ministry of Love from 1984.
Because why not?

Haha, I appreciate the praise, but this is just a map from Super Metroid. Currently in the process of a few personal designs though and will post in a different thread when they're done if you're interested : )

Worked in level design and on the creative team at a small software firm for a while, so have practice putting other people's thoughts into design. If you want, create a thread and let me know what you guys are thinking about and I'll knock something out for you. (Or just refer me to your clan thread and we'll just do it there.)

Not really interested in joining a clan yet, but being a freelance architect sounds fun

Awesome...currently at work, but I'll be off for a few days starting about 8 hours from now. So far just been scratching out designs on graph paper, but I'll probably just use photoshop and give general dimensions for the rooms...be easiest to share images on here rather than some other format. : )

I spent three years working at an experimental computer lab when I was in college. Our whole job was to learn video, audio, and graphic design programs...do projects and tutorials, then teach students, faculty, and staff how to use those programs. Always loved writing though, and one of my classmates and I became really good friends and she and I would talk through story ideas. She eventually got a job as a writer on a video game project and I got a chance to come on as a writing consultant for a while. That led to a few years of working on their creative team. Mostly worked on concept art, project planning, 3d and 2d design, and workflow. Always had side projects though, and got to do level design on a couple puzzle games and some action/shooter type projects.

 

Hey, if you're still hanging around, I'd really love your help designing a game. You see, very slowly everything is falling into place (save for some pixel art and artist may not be fully interested). I was hoping you'd do level/ map design so as to forward the project. Hope to hear from you soon,

 

I'd be happy to give some feedback, but sadly I'm working 50-70 hours a week as is right now. Pretty much just have a few hours here and there to lurk the forums / play some games / go out for a bit.

Complete with Room 101?

 

Just some questions : )

- Do you want the dungeon to be confining and maze-like, or vast abandoned open spaces?

- Do you see it as being more terrifying, or a place to be adventurous?

- What do you want people to accomplish in your dungeon?
Is it there to test them? Reward them? Punish them? Is it a barrier, an end goal, or a side mission?

- Will it be modern? medieval? futuristic? alien? What's the driving theme?
You have an image of the dungeon in your mind already...don't concentrate on it too much, but in your imagination just drop yourself into a random room. What color stands out the most to you? What do you smell? What's the temperature? What sounds are coming from the next room?

- There used to be a jailer named Bob that worked in your dungeon. Bob had an idea one day that he thought would be great to implement in the dungeon, but it was actually a horrible idea. It was such a bad idea, Bob got fired. What was Bob's idea?
