Your the one thats wrong now. Tiy has clearly stated that the endgame is planned to be pvp focused later on in development.

If we're going to bring PVP into this, that argument goes straight out the window with any mention of the Blink tech. On equal footing, a ranged user has to dump all of their energy into moving away from the melee attacker by either counter-teleporting or using other mobility techs. It's either that or be almost entirely unable to fight back thanks to the fact that ranged weapons cannot hit targets standing past their muzzle. It's all but guaranteed to be a losing battle for the ranged user from the get-go unless they can catch the melee player completely off-guard or kill them in a single hit - and, considering typical melee weapon damage, it's far from unlikely that a single hit kill will happen to the ranged player.

Even in PVE, it's not the greatest feeling in the world to be slowly whittling away at your own targets while your friends with melee weapons routinely deal instakill damage and rarely have to worry about their energy consumption. The only weapon I've found so far that allows me to remain competitive is a rocket launcher that takes nearly all of the energy of the ferozium armor set to fire - a weapon I risk killing myself or allies with in difficult situations.

PvP focused, very funny. There is no gain from killing people on the server and they lose pixels, in case of your friends they will just rage later if they get short on pixels to craft something.
So currently there is nothing that would promote PvP in any form or way, and I doubt there will be anything at all.

Now were talking balancing, that will (hopefully) improve over time. But a whole ammo system remake isent going to work if they want pvp, at least not in a way i can see.

I did say later in development, the endgame hasent been added yet. But they would have to make considerations for pvp now if they are going to focus on it later.

And there is no sings of that in any posts, blogs or anything.
Don't bring up PvP at all, when PvE is still so bad, just mindless mobs with move forward and attack A.I, missing their attacks most of the time.

Granted it was some time ago now, but he's right. Though as you hint on it's not been talked about recently

I should however add that its also stated that pvp is optional, your not forced to do it.

And before someone asks, this is not a remnant from when there were sectors. In the same post they go over how normal sectors would be replaced with a single starmap (like the game currently in unstable), but they will still have this "sector x" thing.

Doesn't say anything apart form there will be PvP sector. Don't say about form of PvP or how the combat will be. If it remains in its current form, and most likely it will, there is no need to take part in PvP as the only thing you gain from it is: -"Hahaha I kille you noob!!!"

Battleing over planets, being part of a guild = dosent mention anything about pvp? Yea sure.

    _Q_ Scruffy Nerf-Herder

Sure i should battle over a planet, there is not enough of them out there.

How would you know? If they indicate that you will battle over planets as a guild then its likely they will also give you some reason to do so. For example "sector x" could have very few planets instead of the endless sea in normal space. Or there could be unique rewards.

Who knows realy, but if the devs see guilds battleing for planets in the endgame its likely that the devs will present some reason for doing so.

Again not any plans, mentions etc, its all speculations, and basic PvP provided in game atm, is not balanced, profitable or fun, and again there is no sings it will change in near future, it will end as unbalanced and boring thing just like in other games of that type.

"no plans"? The post clearly states battleing over planets in the endgame, and that you have to be a part of a guild to "join the fight". It stands to reason that they would also include a reason for doing.

In my humble opinion it seems more fact based then your speculative assumption that pvp will be meaningless.

PvP should never be the primary balance concern in a game that is primarily single player.

A magazine system, whether you refill it with ammo or pixels, is necessary for guns to become viable, in my opinion.

Also, guns could have a bonus pixel drop on kill to counteract the cost of ammo if it used pixels.

Note that with a pixel based system there wouldn't be physical magazine items. You'd just get another energy bar type thing that refilled with a pixel cost, to simulate some sort of "microprinter" in the gun turning your pixels to bullets.

There are already two types of guns, essentially- guns that make sense for using power (plasma, laser, lightning, etc) and ones that seem like they should use ammo. Maybe energy weapons use energy but kinetic weapons use pixel mags?

And for christs sake, guns need a velocity buff. Bullets are sooooo sloooooow.

Apart from the fact that post was a 'this is what's planned' post...

I am personally looking forward to this aspect (and could work well with Director Mode) and expect it to still happen (no reason to think they would renegade on these plans). If you aren't interested in that type of thing, that's fine, as its optional, but I certainty will be interested in it

Thats not correct in my humble opinion. If a game has pvp it should be balanced for pvp.

If you balance a game for pvp people can still enjoy pve. But if you balance a game for pve theres no way that they will enjoy the pvp.

I'm not sure how rangers being able to use techs would unbalance the game. Currently, it's tipped way, way towards melee, who do much more damage without energy bar limitations, and can quickly blink or boost right up to a ranger and kill them with ease.

Right... which is why Terraria, a game completely balanced with PvE in mind, is boring for PvP. Oh wait, no, that's wrong. You can have tons of fun in Terraria PvP too.

    Lets see.

They could use better armor without penalty for one (same as the melee).

They would have the same amount of energy to move around making it extremly hard for the melee to even catch them while they themselves can attack nonstop.

Im not saying that the current pvp is balanced, they will hopefully get there. Im just saying that i cant see a way to make the "ammo and energy being separate" system work in pvp.

  19. Lecic

    Lecic Hard-To-Destroy Reptile

They could use the same armor as melee, and then not have enough energy to reload the ammo on their guns, yes.

Melee can still use techs and move just as fast as rangers can.

Plus, think for a second. Would charging a machine gun with a sword be a good idea normally? No! So why should it be a good idea in this game? It makes rangers pointless if you can just dash up and decapitate them in one swing with the Blade Of Opness 9000.

There is not a single ranger in their right mind who uses the actual ranger armor. Everyone with a tiny bit of sense just uses the "magic" armor because it gives higher energy. It's not like a ranger should be getting into close range anyway.

The devs have said they enjoy the "blast away with guns and then dive into melee when energy is out" system, but I think I speak for a lot of players when I say we do not. We WANT to be able to play a pure gun build, and the way things currently are, we can't do that.

If they need energy to reload were back in the current system, just with a delay. It will work the same. I was under the assumption that they didnt need energy with the ammo as a replacement.

The melee needs to be in melee range to attack, a ranged can attack from anywhere. They dont start fighting next to each other, they start at a distance. If both use the same amount of energy to travel it stands to reason that they would end up the same distance away from each other as they were at the start. Thus the ranged can keep attacking while the melee cant do anything.

So your suggesting they remove melee weapons all togheter from pvp consideration? Tempting considering that its a science fiction game, but at the same time i think its unlikely to happen

Thats just a balance issue that can be handled within the current system without remaking it.

Perhaps thats why your being one hitted? Just saying.

I would still say it can be solved without remaking the system, its just a balance issue. If you disagree with me then we will just have to agree to disagree.
