Torches Underwater?

Anyone else noticd that torches work fine underwater?
Does this not seem odd? Maybe there's a lore reason/explanation but it seems very strange to me.

Edit:apologies if this is in the wrong area, seemed to me a suggestion based on an item. Open to suggestions where to repost.

As far as I noticed, the torches shown were lanterns, they had glass around them. Also, this seems like the wrong place to put this.

Yeah, this is probably the wrong section to post this. Besides, the torches are probably waterproof.

Pretty sure they weren't lanterns in the tier 1 post I saw. They were the basic torches (made mostly from wood?)
    Not these magic waterproof torches

I think by torch he meant flashlight :D Oh the wonders of American English and British English :p And why not? There are already lights that work underwater so I see no problem with a flashlight/torch (depending on which side of the pond you live) in the grim darkness of the.... eerrr.... in Starbound!
Edit: Ah... torches as in fire on a stick. Nevermind then.

  7. You could clearly see this strange and unusual phenomenon on following video (about 1:11:42, I guess):

Edit: I believe this will be fixed. Eventually.

Even if there would be glass around the flame, like a lantern, it would still need a combustive ( oxygen or some other gaz) to be able to feed it. A chemical light would do the trick , like the glowstick in terraria.

    My thoughts exactly :V
That's an interesting thought though: Will novakids glow?
Or will there be armors that glow?
I look forward to finding out. (I would be jealous of novakids if they do glow, because I'm not going to use that race.)

    Novakids better look out.
I read something that they might give off a little light but nothing that will really help you in a dark dungeon.

Along with how jumping out of water is handled, this is probably something that will be easy to change later on. It is low priority compared to more important code changes and implementing new mechanics and content. I wouldn't be surprised if it was one of the last things they change before open beta is released.

I guess if you killed enough novakids, you could concentrate it and then increase the rate of the reaction to speed up the light production and create a much more powerful glow.

It seems like a lot of games have that feature with jumping out of water though, its one of them video game things, kind of like double jumping. I wouldn't mind if they nerfed it a little or not.

Or make a Novakid bomb. :fireball:

Of course, but in most of those games the remaining height of your jump is cut in half or so as soon as you leave the water. That's what causes Mario to barely leave the surface, only about enough to get you onto dry land. They did the same thing in Terraria, more or less.

it's been stated that novakids will glow faintly, but not enough to be any kind of light source

I believe all of the races will glow faintly, but only enough to know where your character is.
I suspect the Novakid armor special ability might be creating small explosions to counterattack against melee foes.

Tiy states multiple times throughout nearly every stream that he plays with developer privileges, allowing him to do things that players cannot. Among these things are cutting trees down instantly, placing/destroying blocks from quite far away, and (it seems to be) placing torches wherever he wishes.
