Too much life/creatures?

I find it odd when I land on a seemingly barren moon and I'm assaulted by tons of large animals. I think it would be nice to have a few planets that are really barren and it's just you versus the weather instead of hordes of creatures.

There really isn't much weather to fight against. Hence it would get quite uninteresting very fast.

You have a point. From what I read, the moon planets are supposed to be nearly barren, but I have found them to sometimes have more life than jungle planets.

yeah barren planets dont make for very interesting gameplay at all , even if it was tornado's or thunderstorms etc etc it would die pretty fast

i really dont see this being of any use in terms of gameplay / excitements

You're assuming that they won't ever add any interesting weather, and that exploring/mining without creatures around would be bad.

Neither of those things are necessarily true. And what's wrong with a "boring" planet? I'd love if I could mine in peace without copy-pasted monsters throwing themselves at me while I skim around on the surface looking for ores.

I wouldn't mind seeing other environmental factors being pulled into the game in the place of creatures. Maybe you have to build an air supply system to be able to explore moons and asteroids? Maybe there are meteors on some planets that make mining on the surface dangerous? Dangerous fumes in caves that could explode if you try to mine near it?... etc..

Perhaps these will be added later in the game and the monsters on these areas are simply placeholders to still induce some challenge to exploring and mining.

Sometimes I get tired of wading through corpses and I thought a barren planet would be interesting. There are things more interesting than fighting monsters like discovering ruins or mining special ores or some other points of interest. Even right now there is some weather challenges like with snow planets and such. Most moons already seem to have a cold weather mechanic.

Yes, it is very odd. I have always been a fan of man versus environment, rather than man versus endless onslaught of brainless mobs. Maybe once they flesh out the game a bit and add some interesting environmental hazards in future, the amount of mobs that could be spawned could vary depending on the planets type as well.

Since barren planets feature extreme environmental conditions where "normal" living beings could not survive in, I think it would make sense if they would have very few, but also very strong monsters. (If they even have any, that is.) There could also be planets that are complete opposite, with massive hordes of weaker enemies.

You should change the title to "Too much Mobs/Creatures?" I was confused at first, I thought you meant your health bar when I read the title.

4 qadrillion planets! Yet they're all basically the same... so interesting.

However in their current state it would be pretty pointless and boring to go to a moon if there was no creatures on it. What they need is a higher risk/reward factor. They should have amazing resources but be extremely deadly (like no oxygen, freezing temperatures, meteor strikes, etc).

I'm incredibly tired of walking around on a freezing moon with all manner of creatures jumping around merrily as if it were summer - And the moons... don't even get me started on the moon sprawl.

haha yeah, I don't even like fighting the monsters. Even less now my bow is kind of useless.
I assume/hope a better fighting system will be implemented.

I think barren planets devoid of life are an excellent idea; maybe you need a space suit to go on there. (no need for armor anyway since no monsters)
You could find deserted ruins and stuff maybe very rare ore.

This is game (at least as I see it) is about planet hopping so why not have some barren planets. If you're tired of it just go to another planet.
(in my opinion there should be no fuel, travel is free)

What about meteor showers on Moons? That would be a pretty deadly weather condition!
I also think it should be devoid of life, at least on their surface and needing special gear to breath on their surface sounds awesome.

Anything that survives on a moon would be something unlike any of the other creatures and possibly more dangerous. NPCs on a moon should be advanced enough to live there so they should be tougher than the usual as well.

    Meteor shower, now that's brilliant.
You should get some kind of warning (a few meteors at first) so you can go underground and explore there further or wait it out.
Maybe you could even get some rare ores from these meteors.

The solution for the barren planets should be complex. While weather and meteors are a threat on the surface, there should be other mechanics to give some sense of danger underground. Limited oxygen together with the ability to damage the suit and loose that oxygen even quicker should do the trick , in my opinion. Not stating it should be the only mechanic.

I was pretty surprised to find a medieval glitch village in a barren moon last night.

I have a feeling that it's a placeholder method of monster generation for the time being. It may change once other things are done.

But yes, its odd that every little moon is teeming with life.
