First off, I would like to say how thankful I am that everyone has been generally pleasant posting on this topic! This is why the devs and moderators respond to us as often as they can! So thank you all.

Next, I would like to ask everyone to stay a little more on topic. This is not a rant about how they will not provide a set release date. I know this saddens us all, but they have their reasons for it and this is not the post for it.
Please keep in mind that the more attitude we throw around, the less likely we are to receive the responses we are hoping for. Chucklefish is developing, Chucklefish is releasing when they are ready.

We are on this topic hoping to be included a little more in the development process. They have asked us constantly what we hope to see in the game, and our thoughts on the possibilities. In order to provide them with the feedback they desire, we need to see a bit more of the game as they finish it. I do not in any way want to know everything about the game before it is finished, but I do want to feel like the game is alive every day, and not have this turn into a Diablo 3 exists, you just won't see it for 5 more years. Thankfully, we all know this game will be amazing, and not a total Blizzard avalanche mishap.

Again, thank you all for your input, and lets stay positive and on topic!

For their sake they shouldn't leave the community hanging, especially regarding how much the importance of community has been emphasized throughout the year.

I'm not talking about the release date, "when it's done" is fine. But the lack of output in general can become a problem if it starts tiring people and withering the hype.

We're likely starved for news now because we've gotten so much until recently. Best case scenario we get a fair amount of content to keep the hype up, no more or less.

They don't really leave us hanging. They have given us quite a bit. Regular screens. We can watch live streams of game testing. They even gave us a bit of the sound track and in game lore.

I'm pretty fine with the rather regular little snippets you get from the screenshots. I wouldn't mind another video sometime, but really, I'm perfectly fine with what we get. I seriously don't know how people can say, that there hasn't been any updates. There's been one or two screenshots every week or two for the last couple months. Then we got the Avian lore, and the glitch background not too long ago. I think they're just lazy and don't feel like actually searching around for stuff. And guess what, there's still LOADS of stuff that hasn't been shown off yet, the space station, the other racial ships, any armor aside from Tier 1, all the guns, a bunch more biomes. So they're trying to give us some tastes of what's to come, without ruining the whole game.

Also to all the people complaining that there hasn't been a release date yet, mellow out. Seriously, they're going as fast as they can and they want to get a full, finished games to everyone rather then something like a horrendously buggy and rather boring game similar to what happened with Minecraft. I've said this like five times already. Starbound isn't Minecraft or Terraria, Starbound is going to have story too it and a lot more depth, which takes more time. So just be patient. You really think that a release date is going to do anything? It's going to get your hopes up and then if it doesn't happen, there's going to be all sorts of people crying that it didn't come out. Plus, though most people might think Tiy getting death threats is a joke, it's probably not, I've seen people go to that extreme over a very trivial matter.

They already said they're nearly done, so we just gotta be patient people. Stuff doesn't get done in a day, and they already said that most of the base mechanics are done, they just have to add in the content now. So a few months yet, I'm sure.

I am still rather excited about this game, and I am glad that they're actually giving us some small pieces of the game, with screenshots and whatever else every couple weeks. It keeps me interested, rather then them saying, Hey here's a screenshot, see you in 5 months.

We are not complaining about how far the game is or isn't, we are wanting to know how far the game is. There are a lot of us who are looking so forward to this game that most other games have just completely lost their luster. Having some sort of time frame would let us accept the delay and find something else to occupy ourselves with. I guarantee you that all the die hard fans of this game log in every day hoping to find out the game will be out in mere weeks, and that is making a lot of us weary.

When we say we want to know more about the game, we mean just that. Screenshots are great, and the lore is alright, but we want to see mechanics in action. A screenshot here and there and some history of characters we haven't even truly seen in-game, we might as well just go pick up a book. =)

Basically, but a actual recorded version. I am never on during streams. For whatever reason, twitch on my phone NEVER works.

K the formatting is completely screwing up on me... I just wanted to say that I've had that problem as well, wox. I hate it when the forum automatically embeds the stream when I just want to link a twitch page so people can look through the recorded streams.

If you type a word or phrase first and then highlight there is an icon in the tool bar that shows a chain with a +. Click it and then just type or paste in your URL and the word or phrase now becomes a link.

Here are the Links for Tiy's twitch tv you provided
    Tiy Twitch TV1

    Tiy Twitch TV2

Yes. But as I said, a time frame means that they will have to get the game done by then and if it's not done by that time, people are going to cry and freak out because the loose estimate was wrong. The devs have already given two possible release dates and both of those fell through, so the best course of action there, is to just not give a release date until they are 99% sure it will be done by that time. Since as I said, people will go to the extremes against the devs if they give a estimated release date and it falls through yet again.

Yeah. I get what you're saying, I would love to see more about the combat and stuff. But in doing that, they will be showing a bunch of stuff that you find in the game, and you won't have anything to look forward too finding. It's like if they go and showed us pictures of every single biome in the game, well, yeah, it's pretty, but then you can't go and explore and find those biomes for the first time.

I do believe that's why they haven't shown the space station yet, because you will be spending a LOT of time there. The same with the rest of the ships aside from the human one. It gives everyone something to look forward too rather then them showing us everything and spoiling it. I mean, at least they're giving us something, comparative to large name companies. Larger name companies give us a small trailer, maybe a bit of gameplay footage but you don't see much more then that in the 3-4 years they're working on it.

A lot of this is just matter of opinion, but you do have to realize that the devs most likely want to leave some stuff in the game that we can find and be surprised by, rather then knowing everything about the game before it even releases.

3 to 4 years? They have been working on it for a little over a year to a year and a half. I have no idea where you got that estimate.

I was comparing Chucklefish to bigger name companies, I was meaning like EA or something, they take a few years and they don't give anyone much previews of anything. So I think I structured the sentence wrong.

What I'm most interested in seeing right now is the melee functions, how they look and work together in fluent harmony... Swinging a sword, thrusting, stabbing, using different types of melee weapons.

    • Melee weapon(s) used against mob(s)
    • Melee weapon(s) used in a PvP (Player versus Player) scenario
The last I've seen of melee didn't seem like it was finished, I'm mostly excited to see how the melee works when a player fights another player, or when a player fights any of the races. And hopefully to see the use of a shield as well.

Last time I asked Molly about it (a few days ago), she alluded to the next video being centered on navigation. There was no estimate on when that would be though, nor should that conversation be viewed as a guarantee as to the topic of the next video. Though, if it is, I'd certainly love to see it.

Then again, I'd love to see pretty much any new video at this stage.
