To the devs - will there be spiders?

Hi,

I've already pre-ordered the game, because its wicked awesome. But I'm also pretty arachnaphobic...and I realized this sometime after I bought it that there could potentially be spiders in the game, so I wanted to double check.

 

If there are random mobs, it'll only be a mater of time. And the scary thing is that you won't even be able to see it coming.

 

It's all so random generated, that I see things with many legs and I don't know what to call it. But in all this randomness you surely will find monsters who look like spiders, now if they act like one... Yet to be seen!

Would be interesting to see some Monster that is in the "ceiling" in caves, that drops down with a web and hit us!

 

I can't tell if you're joking, but this made me smile. If you're serious, there will be spider like creatures, but I'm willing to bet no actual spiders, and if you should encounter one in-game, remember they can't get you. It's the real ones you've gotta look out for!

 

There wont be spiders but plenty of things like them. If it's that bad that you can't play the game with them, then there will probably be a mod to remove the spider like body bits so nothing like them are generated. Or you would disable creature spawning, maybe even turn god mode on and find a few spider like creatures and get used to them so you wont be so scared of them. And remember "If it bleeds, you can kill it."

 

I hope so, because then I can jump onto a table screaming while holding my skirt. I'm a guy.

 

I am 100% serious. I used to play World of Warcraft and various other games, and there were certain times where I'd end up screaming and run away. I just want to be prepared. :/

 

I'm pretty sure spider legs are in as a body part for random monsters, and clinging to walls and ceilings is an ability mobs can have. The ability to create a complete spider, however, remains to be seen.

However, if such a mob is possible, than it would likely be very, very rare to encounter.

 

If you look into the "one generated monster every Friday"-thread, you can estimate what the creatures look like. Their legs are usually pretty.. fat.. so i don't think you will be frightened by those random generated monsters. Also, the possibility of a monster having 8 thin legs, a small body an 8 eyes - the typical spider-phenotype - is pretty small (maximum amout of legs is 6 if I am not wrong). But I can't garuantee that the devs don't implement this special look for caves .

Edit: okay, I have to correct myself: number 6, 22 and 46 do have spider-like legs, and number 11 and 46 do have 8 legs. But they are still kinda cute - hm okay, maybe number 46 will let you freak out.

 

I honestly don't see why real spiders could have any realistic impact on your life.

If you're trying to help, you're failing.

 

But remember, you only think it is creepy, if you convince yourself that it is creepy. Most household spiders either have no venom, or have their sacs removed, so spiders and their moving legs shouldn't be a problem for you if you don't think that way.

I'm arachnophobic. But if cartoon-like, pixelated spiders scare you...I fear for your safety.

Oops. But seriously though, society had dictated spiders to be freaky and scary. YOU don't have to feel that way. It'll take some self-training, but getting over the fear of spiders are just like getting over the fear of the dark.
