To be honest, are you going for n00bie mode first?

    T-Rex Hard-To-Destroy Reptile

I will go Normal because so i can get used to the game and then go to hardcore

i like a challange so i'm going to try the hardest when i start off :D

  4. Vanque

I'd like to have to worry about eating and such, I think it's a cool addition that adds a fun challenge, so whatever difficulty makes use of that. I would like to keep my stuff if I die, though.

I like a bit of a challenge, so going to go for hardmode, i will probably regret this :D but oh well

I do plan to try out the lower difficulty modes first (certainly in Beta) to learn how the game plays first without worrying overmuch about the additional hardships presented by the higher difficulty modes.

I usually stick to the easier modes when I play games, just because I like to chill, take my time, and have fun. And not worry about dying every 5 seconds.

I will first play n00bie mode, whatever, since I don't want to be overwhelmed with difficulty the first time I play it

I would definitely go with the hardest of hardcores, if I hadn't already made plans to play with "reasonable" friends of mine. :meh:

The fascination behind hardcore and permadeath for me, is the sense of achievement when accomplishing something.
Statements like "My character has lived for 32 days!", "I've defeated this boss on hardcore!", "I beat a level 100 planet on hardcore!" are what drive me. With permadeath, those things actually feel like a worthy challenge (It's not so much the boasting, as it is the immediate feeling of success). Without permadeath, it's just a matter of time until you have achieved everything, making it less "special".

It's fun to think, that the character you're playing with after two months, is still the same you started out with. Anything you have, you've rightfully earned on the way. Never were you too uncautious to have died, until the day you are.

noobie at first, then medium. I've got enough hard speedrunny games.

I will go Hardmode, makes you play smarter and make better decisions while playing.

  14. Kokopure

    Kokopure Starship Captain

I'm going hard first, and then softening up if I feel I need to. That's pretty much how I game in general.

I will probably have an EZMODO playthrough, though, that's more about exploration and wonderment than bare survival by the skin of my teeth, though.

  15. Voyager

    Voyager Spaceman Spiff

Yea, we really don't know enough about the different modes of play to make a decision so I am not voting.
In other games, I usually start on the 'normal' difficulty witch is usually too easy for me, the most skilled gamer alive.

Always in for a challenge myself, even if it's playing a game I've never played.

I'd like to play on Medium, unless it's like Terraria's medium mode where you drop all your stuff on death.
After putting in countless hours on a character and ending up falling in lava and losing all your stuff just feels bad.

An option of increasing the difficulty of enemies, while retaining all your stuff on death. (except money, loose half like Terraria)
but also having the option to drop your things or having permadeath for those that want that.

Forgive me, I forget that this is the internet, and the notion of sarcasm is still an alien concept here.

I refuse to vote on a poll so clearly skewed.

Unless the game goes in the route Terraria went with difficulty (easy = drop money | medium = drop items | hard = dead for good), I will probably do medium. I don't want to get killed so often that I just give up and restart on medium anyway. I also don't want to be some amazing god-like death-machine on "level 100" planets with only a pair of pants and a stick.

In short I want to enjoy the game, not get angry/bored. So yeah, medium.
