TIY'S QUESTION! (regarding web character creator)

I don't want to lose my custom avatar! Option 1, please.

 

I'd rather not have the stuff be tied to the forums. I don't see the point of it because there's such a large amount of people who don't use or post in the forms and rather lurk, so the whole tieing it to your avatar, making unlocks, and all that jazz could very easily create spam to get the items. That and everyone with their own personal avatars can tell a lot about the person, so why in the world would you want to take away individuality? My main concern is the unlocks from forum achievements. Think of the ramifications.

All for number 1. Playing with character creators is something that people adore the crap out of, and I know when I get the chance for making characters early, I jump all over that. (made a bunch of characters in DD because of that early demo letting you make characters) There's a lot of issues with number 2 that would just be a complete mess in the long run.

 

I'm thrown into the option 1 boat. It would be a beautiful teaser to hype up the game by letting people see a stock of character styles that they may want to get appearances ready for the first launch. Forum achievements and odd minigames like that just seem... Awkward at best.

 

Option two is enticing but this is a forum, not a game.
So, I'm for option one, hopefully without 'unlockables'.

 

People, there is an option #3.

 

If there are custom avatars, you could forge your avatar with all the good unlockables.

Option 3 seems kind of strange, and option 2 seems more interesting than the others. However, I would hate having it automatically set your avatar or something.

 

This is why I think such things are fairly pointless. And I don't like option 3 because I think peoples' avatars are large enough as it is. No need to bloat that by sticking another picture in there.

 

I strongly dislike the second option.

 

Option 1 for me. Though, Option 3's an interesting idea if badges were to be introduced. Kinda like a mini ID tag.

I gotta go with Option 1. It lets you play with the character stuff, but it won't restrict people who would rather have a custom avatar, than a character made one. Yeah this let's you 'forge' unlockable stuff but in the end it shouldn't really matter all that much, since it's just a fancy character maker.

 

There could be unlockable stuff, you never know, but either way, option 1 lets you make stuff yourself for your avatar or whatever since you're just saving the file/picture anyways. I think that's what I meant.

 

Same. Disabling custom avatars is a terrible idea.

 

I go with option one, because I hate the idea of losing the ability to create and use custom avatars. It'd be an annoying restriction that doesn't need to be used.

Option three would be interesting, but clutter up the avatar area.

 

True, I did consider that aspect a little. Many people who do have signatures would -- in turn -- have enough room below their avatar for another image, and it'd let you have something else there instead of a blank space. As such, it COULD work rather well.

Option one is still the one I'm going for, but option three sounds like a really good one as well.

Option 3 would be good if the avatar was quite small. But otherwise, option 1 with no unlockables is fine. Losing the ability to create custom avatars would be horrible.

 

I'm guessing that option 3 includes the unlockable system mentioned in option 2, so definitely option 3. I don't want to get rid of my awesome soup to have an avatar there.

 

Perhaps a badge, if those were to be implemented.

But please, no removal of custom avatars. I'd lose my pink piggeh
