Agreed. After seeing a lot of Terraria's future features dissolve when development stopped, I have trouble being optimistic about these potential features. Obviously Starbound and Terraria are different games, though. So I'm still excited for the game. I just wonder about the viability of these post-release features. How are they funded? Including these features as part of paid DLC might irk players, in addition to separating the community into different available games depending on what mini-expansions they've purchased.

 

I'm having doubts that the DLCs will cost much, if anything. But who said they would be DLCs, thereby dividing players by compatibility? I'm doubting that Chucklefish would be willing to do that. But check out Tiy's post in this forum. And they could just be updates like they've done in Terraria and Minecraft, where they just come with the package. Not sure about what you mean by "How are they funded?" though.

 

Thanks for this post. My concern was that without paid DLC they wouldn't be able to continue producing content and all of these post-release plans would steadily evaporate. The link you provided gives one possible solution that the developers endorse: larger expansions. J'approve.

 

You're welcome. By the way, I just found this thread. Tiy said when you buy the game, you get everything.

THAT solves a major issue that you brought up, division depending on purchases. This way, everyone gets everything... so it's really just an issue of a player actually updating or avoiding it.

I'd like to know a bit more about civilizations on planets, how complex their behaviour is and to what extent communication is possible.
It's not like I think anyone will provide me with this information, but this is more or less my way of saying that I find this lacking in the interview.

Keep in mind this is a relatively old Q&A, and if my memory serves correctly, it was well before all the races were even announced yet. I'm sure Tiy will talk about something like that in time, but at the time of this Q&A, much more was still unknown to us.

Glitch was announced in February, and the Hylotl never received an official (front page) announcement, so you could be right about that one. My point was that there was lots of stuff unannounced yet at the time.

Don't say that, questions are fine. It's our job (or should be) to answer questions like that
