A game is more then what the developers set it out to be.
But a game is also the potential of what it could be through community involvement.

Completely ignoring mods is also ignoring a large competent of what the potential of that game can be.l
Bethesda games are great, but you add molds into the fold it is much better.
If bethesda never supported modding it is more then likely their games would never have achived the fame it has.

The same goes with half life and now Starbound.

Modding is a fundamental aspect of the game, as the base game it self. After all it is the amount of work the devs incorporate into their engine to allow modding to happen in the first place.

None of that is addressing the issue that "but this mod for some other game that was finished years ago is successful!" doesn't mean jack shit as far as "oh some modder who did something for a skeleton of a game in development decided to not do it anymore" is concerned.

It's that darn "game not done yet" angle people keep forgetting. It affects so much.

I find it an annoying trend when devs post stuff like this on other forums but the game's own.
STO devs do this a lot.

    Anywho, on the content.
I have no issue with it. Games take time. Stuff you can't predict happens. Things won't always go as planned. Murphy's law and all that fun stuff.
I won't criticize the devs for that.

so, I started playing this game when it released. was unbelievably stoked, played it for hours, days, a week or two straight. didn't care for any other game. of course, when you've done everything you can do you'll move on to something else. you can't escape it, it happens. big woop.
Starbound released with its base features - that is: running, smacking/shooting things, checking out planets, etc. when all you have is a skeleton, without any muscle tissue or nervous system, yeah. it's a skeleton. what do you expect? this isn't Disney, it's not going to walk up to you and ask if you'd like some tea. but that's not to say it won't become something amazing. you have to give it time. patience, young grasshoppers. moving to another country is a very time consuming thing. building a game engine is a very time consuming thing. not to mention whatever crap the developers dealt with on a personal level. sometimes life sucks and it takes a couple days (TIME) to get out of that slump. developers are people lol, just like anyone. difference is they're trying to make a game for all those other people who talk them down and say their dream isn't worth it.
if you were making a game, and showed it off, and were subsequently told that it sucks... c'mon, you're not an iron wall. you'll feel that. I'm sure CF did, too.

y'know, games take a while to make. CoD is a black sheep in the idea that they're not building each game from the ground up, like Starbound is. so it can't just pop up in a year and a half, which is why it's taken - what, 3 years or so? - to get this far.
and so, I moved on for a bit. until I felt like the game was where I wanted. it's not, and that's fine lol. I don't wish any ill health on CF or Starbound. though I grow impatient if I sit too long on it, it's fine. it'll be finished and an amazing experience when it is. by that time I think I'll feel my money's worth was a long-time paid.

it's not hard to be satisfied with the idea that CF is trying, as opposed to the game being "finished". at least, that's the idealism speaking.

    Hey guys!

I'm here to say Thank You for the update on the Dev Process. I got very frustrated with Early Access lately, because some Games I really enjoyed and hoed for were dropped. Towns dropped, Cubeworld vanished, not a single mayor "Survival game" finished, some Kickstarters delayed and so on... I'm glad to hear you are on a clear track to completion and don't mind waiting some more, as long as this great game gets finished. Already had tons of fun with the earlier versions and planning to start anew when it is complete :) The new features (upcoming and already implemented) are really promising and I wish you the best of luck.
