Tiy and the team worked 19 hours straight but for what ?

Look how that worked out for Dwarf Fortress fanbase. Releasing updates on a slower basis means losing hype and fans.
Besides, ten thousand players can play-test whatever new update brings much quicker than Chucklefish staff can.

Umm.. Phase one of the beta: a lot of things are implemented and remade. They're pushed to steam ASAP to test them live and start balancing. A lot of small patches is the whole point of this phase. it's not about our comfort, it's about most efficient testing.

Then you should wait to play until a later stage in Beta. Back in October Tiy posted exactly how this would work.

    http://playstarbound.com/how-the-beta-is-going-to-work/

They literally said that patches would come at breakneck speeds to tweak things. Sure, they did Alpha testing but you really don't know how things will work until you get it into way more hands and on way more systems.

They reworked the combat system... It's the platform from which all future weapon, armour, damage values will be balanced from.

I really think this thread just needs to be locked. It's not accomplishing anything constructive.

yup lock this thread, camz isn't getting the point annyhow. only advice i can give him is to wait 2-4 months and then download and play the released starbound.

The point is that the balance is still utterly terrible and it is something the devs really should be constantly reminded of and trying to fix. Even if you don't like the wording, the point is still there.

I'll never understand why people here tend to act like the devs are their elderly grandmas who need to be defended to the death.

Why say the patch sucks because they worked for 19 hours straight? They worked to release a "beta" version of the game for people to "test". Test to try new things and see if they work better than the new ones.

19 hours to put in a new system, and remove a older one that was creating long term problems. They simply haven't had the time to balance the new system. Granted I haven't played yet, but I understand the over all goal they are going for so I look forward to some balancing.

You have to keep in mind it took them this amount of time to make a ground work for the new system, not make the new system.

I definitely understand that the balance is terrible. It's a completely new system that they put out in 2 days. Maybe give them a bit of slack.

Also, locking the thread doesn't mean the thread disappears. The initial post saying the balance is way off right now will still be visible, along with the other 5 million posts like it.

Locking this thread will do nothing but good.

and you seem to miss the point aswel, we don't need to remind the dev's they know and they can read the feedback it's a matter of not flaming or breaking down their work. i don't protect them like granny's i respect their work unlike some of you ...

I think people need to stop having the same expectations they do from Gold (IE: Released) games' patches.

Welcome to a real BETA, not one of those "Open Betas" that are only marketing ploys.

What happened today (I assume) is the foundation of the new system was put in. You can't just create a new core function in a couple of days, and stick it into a game, and expect it to be even remotely balanced... There is no magic way to know exactly how to balance this kind of thing. It's OUR job as beta testers to now play with this new system, and give them the feedback they need to tweak the numbers.

If you don't want to help them balance the game and fix problems and want to keep bitching, don't play in beta.
We are here to help not cause problems or make them feel bad

The game's in active development. If you don't like changes, state your thoughts and hope for the best. If you don't like how the game's "unpolished", simply wait for the proper release.

Remember that time when beta testers got paid? I do.
    :(

Well, at least we get the game at a discount. EA's countless dick moves, though... Remember that "beta is not a right, it's a privilege"? Yeeeeeeeah.

You seem very inexperienced. Things aren't as simple or clear cut as you imagine.

Sometimes you have to break something more/harder before you can fix it. And sometimes to fix one thing you'll break something else, which you'll have to fix later and so on.

In this patch they changed the AP system, it's a bit wonky now as it was just implement but they laid the groundwork for further and more comprehensive changes/balance in the coming days.

Keep in mind it's still in BETA stage, there will be bugs and etc. But unlike most developres, they seem to be doing the beta right.

It is just an error in item level of crafted items which makes the numbers so extreme as they are right now:
    http://community.playstarbound.com/index.php?threads/balance-patch-numbers-why-they-are-off.46019/

    Short version:
Current T1 weapons are itemlevel 5, making them T5 weapons.
Current T2 weapons are itemlevel 15, making them T15 weapons.

I also posted graphs of how the progression curve will look like with the current numbers, and a suggestion on how it should look like in my opinion.

19 hours to change the entire damage and planet leveling system. You can't expect it to suddenly be perfect just because something took a long time or a lot of work. Nor can you expect every change during beta to be an improvement. Sometimes fixing a bug reveals the existence of more bugs. That is what testing is all about, finding the problems and ironing them out so that at the full release the game is as good as it can be.
