Tips on the first boss!

Ok so, if you have no life like me you've probably reached that part of the game where you finally made your distress beacon. Well, here's the thing, the distress beacon summons the first full fledged boss!
Now I don't know if the boss is randomly generated, if it is good luck! If it isn't and we all get the same then let me give you a couple of tips!

I got a big ass UFO kind of boss, level 10, with an absurd amount of life, you'll most likely do 10 damage with your iron bow (the only you can get until after the boss, so far), and trust me you're gonna use your bow a lot.

This boss is quite easy to evade, but here's the thing, it summons little penguin bastards with guns, and some of them have really big guns, some with bazookas and some with TANKS even.

So careful with those. After a while, like 50% health down, he will also spawn some mini-UFOs that are pretty annoying but nothing to worrysome if you follow my strategy!

So what are you gonna do:

    • First, clear a good area of your map, nothing too big, but enough to be able to move and jump without being trampled. You will also need to make columns of dirt or stone here and there, taller than your character, because the mothership tries to CRUSH you and that hurts quite a lot so with the little columns you stop its attempt and you can shoot it at will.
    • Next, and also very important, make a part of the battleground hollow, torch it up and install a bed and a crafting table.
    • Basically, you're gonna need to bunker down everytime your life drops, and unless you have a huuuuuuge stock of bandages or red stimpaks, you WILL need to heal up. So the bed is the best option. Don't worry, the mothership won't leave, and the lil penguins aren't too bright either, so you're good!
    • My best advice is that you open a 1 block space while bunkered and shoot the mothership with your bow, it's sloooooooowwwwww, so gather a lot of patience.
    • Finally, and most importantly, if you have bombs, TIME THEM WELL AND THROW THEM AT THE MOTHERSHIP! They do +500 damage to it and it REALLY makes a dent into the damn thing. I was able to land 2 bombs of the 3 I had on her, and it made the fight way easier and faster!

That's all advice I have to give! Bunker, bed and bombs!
When you kill it you'll get the Molten Core, and the new part of your journey will begin! I'm in it and it's the awesomest thing!

    Good luck everyone! :D

Better than stimpacks or bandages - make Carrot Bread if you can. I started with the recipe as an Avian, dunno what other people have, but that stuff is AMAZING. Find an Apex town hanging around, and buy a TON of wheat and carrots from the vendors there (their stock can vary - but other races sell food in thier towns too). The bread gives Regen (super fast) for a good 20 seconds, plus a 10 second speed boost buff. It claims youre on fire, but its actually the speed boost buff.

That stuff makes the fight SOOOO much easier.

Also, Protip for those willing to exploit bugs:
Buying in bulk from vendors actually costs you only 1 item's worth of pixelsl.

If you just have the proper weapons (I used a 6AP gun) and armor (silver), it's actually quite a simple fight and damage isn't an issue. No silly bunker, no arrow holes, no bed, a simple elevated platform just off the ground will do just fine. And bandages are always the way to go, they're really easy to stock up on, not sure why anyone would bother waiting to sleep in a bed. Bombs do sound like a good idea though

You can surround it in dirt, while it shoots you with its laser it will not fly any higher, use that time to quickly jump above and put a roof over it.

It can be attacked with a sword at this point, also while it constantly tries to get back above you, it will not attack in any way, no extra mobs, no crushing you and no lasers. It will still try to blink away but it will just reappear back in its cage.

Well, when I did engage the boss I had built everything possible for me (Avian), had silver armor and iron bow, I haven't found any gun yet!

guns are from vendors in villages or sky ships.

    ...

I literally found a race of Frog Merchants living in an underground tomb that sell bombs by the dozen...

Why did I not think of bombs?

So I just spent half an hour with that bunker strategy, and just after I killed him I died from one of the rocket penguins. No loot for me...

Edit: Items despawn basically as soon as they're out of view, which really was the main problem. That it not a cool thing to have in a game like this.

So while fighting the boss, when he droped down to 50% hp, he just left, disapeared. I tryed to create a new beacon but when I used it it says "No signal, please place beacon on a planet surface", or something like that

    Any help?

He did that first time I fought him. I think it's a targeting bug, that he flies off "attacking" something or nothing, and gets out of range.

I managed to kill the bastard in about 25 minutes without dying.

Geared up with full silver armor, iron bow and some fire hammer (that i almost never managed to use anyway).

Made a little bunker house with a fireplace and a bed (tent) in it for health recovery.

    Stocked up on bandages.

Ignored all penguin troops that couldn't get to me, they do a small amount of damage when you have silver gear so I just smashed the ones that were attacking me with my hammer until dead.

A strategy of walking out, shooting shooting shooting, grab bandage, get in bed for a couple of seconds, repeat. I sometimes managed to get in a few blows with my hammer to get the fire DOT effect on him, but i don't think it did much difference.

Now that the update allows the penguins to break blocks, rendering all of the above methods useless, any tips? I can't win :(
