Sure seahoreses, any laptop info is good info here, thats good news beacuse then my brother can play it with me!

Aalso if you got more tips and tricks with laptopgaming write them here if you like =) Im a completly rookie when it comes to gaming with laptops. Beside exiting unneasary program that lies running in the background.
Also techno, if you do some merging of files, that is if its possible, the loading will get a bit faster the game doest have to read the extra mod data .

Strange, my mouse get sluggish sometimes ingame, but fine in windows.. Has this happend to any of you?

Thanks for the tips! I have used Game booster (now known as Razor) for years and something better would blow my mind.

I cannot wait for phase 2 optimization. I can play League of Legends or Terraria fine but this game just.. bleh.

Strange, I've got an old Dell Inspiron 1720 with 2 gigs of memory and a 512 video card and StarBound runs just fine on it.

Its been a very outrageous misconception that some how laptops are inferior.
If you were born and raised on mac - Sure. It would be understandable if you were from N. Korea.

But laptop it self does not signify anything.
My laptop is more powerful then majority of standard desktops.
Of course it costs a premium also.

The only thing such things are useful are in cases of ANY <- low end gaming rig.
Laptop designation no longer holds any particular value.

Just tossing my experience in :wut: Almost-4-year-old Toshiba Satellite, 2.20ghz Intel Core 2 Duo, 4gb ram, integrated 4500mhd Intel card and I've had pretty much "unplayable' lag since day 1 :p Currently the only tip/fix I can't accomplish on the entire forums is removing my "EnableElevateProcess" thing on SBDiagnose through regedit or many other methods I've tried, but I can get around it by not launching through Steam "Play" button and just launching the exe (not that it helps this particular lag :> ).. When I get into the game (on the ship) there is no lag at all, but after a bit of time on the surface the lag slowly creeps in, and stays :wut: Follows me back up to the ship also :p Guessing its something to do with my specific card, maybe, or something that'll be fixed up in Phase 2 optimizations, hopefully.. Starbound.log shows nothing out of the ordinary.. Also think I suffer from the whole "Starbound doesn't "release" the memory it grabs" thing, since saving/reloading without exiting the game continually raises CPU usage til its pegged out :> For now I just check each new update to see if the evil lag is gone :>

Games I can play: Civ 5, Torchlight 2, Binding of Issac, Spelunky, Sims 3, Mount and Blade Warband, Terraria, Left 4 Dead 2, Minecraft, Kerbal Space Program, Project Zomboid, Gnomoria and random less-known others :> Of course all the "better" ones are pushed to lowest possible graphics settings..

Laptops are inferior in performance per dollar to standard computers. Fewer laptops than desktops have a dedicated GPU. They also have more heat problems. Not many people own a gaming laptop, and for good reason.

It's a perfectly reasonable assumption to make that the average laptop user may need extra help in running a game to its full potential.

That said, the topic should really just be called "For those with low-end computers".

    Brofist.

As an aside, if you want to know or show people your specs, posting a Speccy screenshot is probably the easiest way. (Linux users try lshw)

Good point Seajay, will change it right away =)

Alienway, whats the "EnableElevateProcess"? It didnt do it on my desktop rig but on my laptop it seems to hang on in that manner you speak of to

Gah, why'd you have to mention Speedfan?!?! Downloaded it right after I quit playing Torchlight 2 for about four hours and it says my worst temp is 129F (55C).. :wut: Uncool, literally ;)

I have mine seated on a Coolmaster with a desktop fan aimed at it.
It adds to the immersion when i'm on a moon in Starbound or the snowy regions in Oblivion, for example.. and my hands are going numb.

    This is what I use:

    http://www.pixmania.co.uk/periphera...zcFVw05R3dRVw==&merch=1&srcid=11270&nopopup=1

The three fans underneath clip-on and can be moved around to line up where the most heat is. Without this I couldn't play games such as Fallout: NV, GTA4 and the DayZ mod as my laptop would overheat and shut off.
It saves balancing your machine on books, too.

On most forums Moderators use it to show that they are making an "official" mod ruling post and that no one should argue what has been read publicly. That doesn't seem to be the case here on Starbound though. :)

An important warning about "laptop cooling pads" - ALWAYS make sure that it isn't blocking or blowing INTO the exhausts of your laptop. That is only going to make things worse when the hot air that is supposed to be escaping is being blown right back in.

And of course never, ever EVER play on a soft top - Avoid pillows, blankets and stick with wood, metal or glass.

So get to know your laptop's exhausts and shop based on that. :D

I don't see why not; however like others mentioned, it varies from system to system. You won't know by fact until you launch the game on the model. Mine has better RAM (DDR3) I think, but that one has better process speed. Mine I think is 2.1 ghz dual core, if I remember correctly. However keep in mind that even comparing to stats between computers, that some will work better than others even sometimes at slightly lower specs in some areas. Basically it is how those specs work together that would be the deciding factor; that and how up to date drivers and the like are.
