Sooo, my mobo went haywire last week and been banging my head around trying to fix it i usually am the one helping friends out with their com problems, but alas this could not be fixed .. So while i wait for the repairs for my gaming rig i wanted to try if you really could play the beta on a laptop.

    You need:
A laptop(mine is an asus one, not the gaming model)
Books or cd cases placed under so the air will flow around when it gets hot
rambooster master( an utility program like razer booster but better and more configurable)
speedfan( let the program smartcontrol your internal fans)

    Optional:
memoryfox for firefox(restores memory in used procces not only firefox)

I can get a decent fps, not as smooth as my beloved rig ofc but it will do till my darling returns. Just thought someone else could use these tips =)

    Best Regards Daniel

I play on my laptop at about a smooth 100 FPS on average, with a dell XMS (can't remember which model though), although at the very start of the beta I got like 30 FPS xD I run dual screen and it doesn't overheat at all :D

I have a laptop that can play any release fine and Starbound good. What are you talking about?

  4. It depends on your rig/starbound optimisation but some of these tips are pretty good anyway.

But the post feels like it assumes everyone's laptop is bad. You cant really know without telling us your specs.

Can't really tell if my NE56R48u is bad or good... But it runs the game just fine, although I have to run it in the OpenGL in the most recent update. It sometimes crashes with the standard exe. I don't like running it with Steam, as that takes away from the memory it has available, but seems to run fine even so.

With any laptop though those are some basic stuff to look out for at least. Since I use an adjustable podium that has a edge to stop books from falling off to lift the laptop up a bit for airflow. :D

I'll have to try Starbound out on my small Asus laptop. I was able to play Terraria just fine on it, as it has 8GB of RAM and a Core i7... just a lousy Intel graphics card to slow it all down.

  11. I just like that Colour.

You're on my list from now on.

    Pretty much this =/

Your post feels like it assumes everyone has a laptop as good as yours. Not flaming or anything mate, but he's clearly just trying to help those that are having issues, whatever their specs. If you're not having any problems then thats great for you, telling us that doesn't exactly help anyone.

My old Toshiba laptop uses a Westmere i5 and a GT 330M. I can run Starbound at 30fps at 2x zoom, up to 50fps or so at 4x zoom.

Wow, it's been a while since I last saw the words "ram booster". Isn't that only for really old machines running 2000/XP?

I guesss some, as you two maybe more can interputate the thred titltle as that but as you hopefully undertand by the rest of the posthat not the case :) Darkcalf it should run fine! I have 4 and its decent fps, haha they are less common now but this one woks great with my asus and gaming.

The way the post was worded seemed to send a message that all laptops are bad. Just read it, of course this was not OPs intention it just felt that way. And I never sent any (or at least I think so) signals that all laptops are mega powerful like mine. And telling us what range his specs are allows people with similar better or worse laptops to be able to use the advice more effectively. But he did post that so its all good now.

What kind of list :0, a mailing list? A gift list? A hit list? Ha probably not a hit list.

I find that my laptop runs quite smoothly when playing the game. I do however have a bit of a wait to get past the loading screen.

Mine's a 3 year old Acer Aspire, ATI Mobility Radeon 5x series. No gaming laptop by any stretch of the imagination, yet I only get any noticeable lag when multiple enemies are on screen at once, and like Technastorm I have a huge wait at the loading screen. I have time to make a cup of tea, shit you not.

Same. The longest wait is waiting for the game to load. Also teleporting down to the planet doesn't always work every time you try; at least for me, which I guess is something mentioned many times as a bug or the fact the planet is still loading? I don't really know I just know even on a small planet it does this. But I do know it is worth the wait from the loading screen in my opinion. :D

As the rest like I mentioned before runs for the most part smoothly with a spike here or there, not often enough to bother me or the play style I have...

I play the game on a MacBook Air, in case anyone is curious if it will run on that type of machine.

About the loading time; I find it that if I have 1 or mod installed it seems to take even longer, much, much longer. I understand the fact that the game needs the time to load the mod but damn, that loading time. It's just too much.
