So lets say your right. I'm now going to get my hopes up for beta next month, and probably be let down and get mad when it doesn't happen. OR... I can set my hopes up for October/November, and if it releases sooner I can be very happy. If it releases in December, it's not that much longer of a wait than I intended.

The choice is clear to me. People get their hopes up for no reason, which is fine I guess if you aren't someone who starts posting and ranting as soon as your personal expectations weren't met. Sadly, the trend of these forums is ranting due to unreasonable expectations. I'm sure on release there will be tons of people ranting about gameplay aspects or things that aren't in the game that were never claimed to be in the game. While I simply play and enjoy the game for what it is, thinking about all the future potential it could have.

Huh? Only meant what I said as a possible explanation for the seriousness of his face and tone when he made that knee-jerk remark. Besides, not all people, myself included, have all that wide a range of facial expressions, so I could say the most pleasant things with the most serious frown on my face and with a dreary tone. Whether fortunate or not, I learned at an early age that hopes and expectations are too often unfounded or unrealistic the very least, unless I was the one working hard towards reaching those goals. So it's better to not hold any hopes for me, aside from forming as realistic possibilities as could be made with the available data, or simply being content with the uncertainty when there isn't enough data. Strangely, I thought of myself as being excessively cynical, but what I've seen here as the flip side of the coin of hype, is by far more cynical than I have ever been. No doubt being anhedonic affects this greatly.

So what? You want a not big ship, not spawning minions, or just no ship at all?
The classic flying saucer shape, while cheesy, screams "SPACE ADVENTURE" to me, which is exactly what the game is about. And once you have a ship, having it drop something dangerous is simply logical. The mundane attacks are also a good lead-in for 2d platformer players. Maybe the thing needs more polishing, but I wholeheartedly agree with the concept as being a tutorial boss. Don't get extra creative just for the sake of being different. Sometimes familiar stuff is better.

I can't think of a single youtuber that follows the rules and/or is actually good at the games they play most of the time. Obviously they ignored the main quest for a large portion of the time but they beat the first boss Chucklefish tried hard to fit into the program. Sure they may not have done anything else impressive other than exactly what the developers wanted them to do, but in the end they had a lot of fun. You could hear them and in some cases see them actually be interested in the game. You can make video after promotional video about how fantastic your game is supposed to be, but the Yogscast is pretty big, and when their fanbase sees them have fun, fans of other events at i49 sees them have fun, and people who simply want more info about their beloved Starbound sees them have fun, they want to play it.

Just like Molly said before: It's all advertising. You've already bought the game I'm assuming so you're not 100% the target audience (I'm not saying your opinion doesn't matter, because it does). It's just that the developers want to portray their game as interesting, new, fun and enjoyable with friends.

For example (no offence to the devs and their passion) if they played it themselves constantly while trying to shove every bit of gameplay possible into it, their audiences would just see it as them throwing their game at you. By letting others play, especially those who are famous, it feels more like something they want to share with you. They really couldn't have done it better any other way. It's not ready for beta. Why? Because they god damned said so and they have the right to say so. Pre-purchasing doesn't mean the community is the boss of the development team as it is mostly just an investment. One of the things in life that I personally absolutely hate is when things are being rushed. Either when you have to go somewhere or get something done, pushing rarely helps assuming everything is working at maximum efficiency already. I'd much rather them take their time and polish the hell out of their gem to make is sparkle than for them to throw an uneven rock glued to a piece of yarn onto the table and call it jewelery.

Sure, Yogscast didn't take the game all that seriously, however is it honestly a serious game? There's pink bunny monsters and eyeball trees man, just have fun with it. Youtubers (or at least the ones I'm used to) like Game Grumps and sometimes Yogscast do in fact play a game without caution and due to the game being as they say pre-alpha there isn't much to a tutorial besides the beginning quests. Normally someone from Yogscast (Duncan in this case I think) would have already tried out the game and learned up on it then would invite the other yogs to play. However, as we all know too well, there is no current gameplay available to try personally and because the game truly is still in development, game mechanics from live streams and demos from the past have often been changed somewhat or outright so there isn't much to learn on.

The only person you could ever blame is MAYBE the person(s) in charge of letting the Yogscast play it ONLY because it doesn't look like they got much of a back-stage introduction. Then again you could easily argue that doing this would ruin the "magic" which I would personally agree to. I will never tell you not to post your opinion on the forums and nobody has the right to stop you (unless it's simply rude) and I know for a fact you're not the only one on your side. I for one am going to continue to refresh the homepage every few hours and occasionally stalk the Forums because like all the other teasers before this one, all id does is make me want it more.

But that's like, my opinion man.

  5. I agree ^^
The guys playing did not follow the quest and the devs needed to make a easy fix to show to boss, they were in some childish extravaganza that for me did more bad than good to the first impression made to thousands of people.

Even the Devs in the stream they did little ago said it was a negative opinion of the Yogcast preview. Anyway we can't do anything about it now. I hope the Devs recorded the Stream they did little ago that was nice. <3

I wouldn't really like it if the devs had played it because they would know everything and we would know all of the first tier right off the bat after watching it. People who don't know how to play are more fun since I learn some of the gameplay but still feel like it's a fresh game when I play it.

I sound so selfish so I'm very sorry but I couldn't watch more than thirty seconds because I was so annoyed that some people who didn't even pre-order got to play Starbound way before all of us. They didn't even seem to give two shits about the game. Argh, it just annoys me. Again, sorry for sounding selfish. I don't even hate the Yogscast, I watch them a lot to be honest. I just don't like the fact that they didn't contribute to Starbound in any way but got to play it.

While i agree with most of this i will have to point out that the "Beta when the devs feel like it" attitude is alright and all, but they didn't just promise beta in 2013, they promised a full release they had now officially pushed back to 2014 via the Q&A that was posted earlier.

If i recall people who got ahold of beta access also paid for a full game by end of 2013, which now they will only be getting half that deal. (Maybe) or sort of, to be honest if you really looked at any of the streams and stuff you would see that nothing is really being rushed. Looking at the dev news feed and such, a lot of the stuff is done in LUA, which they also answered and confirmed in the Q&A about how easy it was to add stuff.

Personally i believe that if it is that easy,( and considering i have done lots of LUA projects before so i have no doubts that its really easy) to add stuff like they said it was, and given how the streams have been going and how smooth the game looks and how i haven't been present for any crashes or anything, then the game is beyond beta worthy. I just can't help but think there are various other reasons why bartwe is holding out. And don't get me wrong, i am not a terraria fanboy, but the only thing i could think while watching that stream was a re-artified terraria due to the lack of content that was shown.

Thats where all the negativity lies at its heart. The yogs guys, (even though we know starbound is nothing like terraria in its current state,) basically made it appear JUST like a terraria clone with switched up graphics.

And its killing me to admit it.

I need to go wash my mouth out with plutonium.

So, you're basically saying that because you personally haven't seen any crashes or other problems, then the devs lied about them and they don't exist, therefore, the game is ready for release.

    Uh huh.

Sir, This magical moment you watched for 30 seconds is called (free)ADVERTISEMENT. Without this little (free)ADVERTISEMENT less people would know what Starbound is and also technically the people who get a early edition have rightfully earned it through multiple views and likes...SO if you want a early copy have fun earning it

(Regarding the free thing lol idk if it really was free to get yogscast out to insomnia and play it because afterall they did request to be paid for going to minecon and playing it...which in my opinion was understandable because they would be the ones paying for the flight and yadyayddaydaydayd.....besides that fact wouldn't you want a chance to have some sort of advertisement?)

(also not trying to upset you lol)

    Welcome back Calris.

And no, you are butchering my posts again. They have probably crushed the crashes on "Their systems." but didn't know how it would react on Yog's systems. There for, it may be wise to use us for our intended purpose to alleviate possible crashes on mixed hardware.

I hope i made that clear enough for you. Words and all. You know how it is. ;)

    Here goes nothing.

I am both glad and disappointed they had the Stream/Event thing. It showed the Chucklefish community that the game is coming along nicely and that it's at least a little bit playable. What disappointed me though was that they didn't really actually show me anything I wanted to see. I wanted to see more of how the building works, what farming was like, you know the usual. But thinking back to it there is a lot of things I wanted to see that they simply couldn't show because the time would run out before they even reach that surprisingly obvious boss.

Yes, the demo they were running did look pretty sweet and it gets a little irritating to know that some people got to play before me. But I can get over that as I can see I am simply being jealous.

I must say I appreciate the daily updates and the I49 streams. But my patience is wearing thin, but mostly because I feel like I have no real grip over how far they have actually come along in the development.
    Thank you.

The devs may have fixed all possible crash bugs in Tier 1. It's not perfectly clear. However, the devs have left us in no doubt that the rest of the game is a mess. While having a stable(ish) tier 1 is fine for a demo in controlled circumstances, there's zero point in just releasing tier 1 for beta purposes. And the devs have confirmed that on several occasions - the game is not ready for beta yet. So, you're (again) ignoring what the devs say, and going with your personal speculation.

Yes, you do have trouble with them, don't you.

I'm too tired to think of anything intelligent to say, but: I kinda got the vibe they weren't fans but I didn't know till now that they didn't even pre-order etc. Now that I know that tidbit of information, I say blasphemy! It should be ME playing! I never liked Sips anyways. Sjin's cool though.

But like you said about them not having enough content, they do brag about thousands of items... but now that you mention it the presentation was definitely lacking. You're right, man. Maybe I'm too trusting~

    X3 H A P P Y M O O D T I M E :catface2: :DD

Unrelated to ths quote, however, I still think the boss was pretty cool especially considering it's the FIRST boss of the game and is supposed to be rather simple. But it should drop like hundreds of items like Pixels, metalic building blocks, fuel (to help you get off the planet) and a really good chance (increased by number of players) to drop a bunch of weapons that are slightly better than the current planet's level so it feels like a legendary weapon... or IS a legendary weapon! LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I liked Borderlands 2 a lot.)

I have to agree here. Only Tier 1 has been (mostly) completed so far... So that offers you 1-3 hours of gameplay before you see everything the game has to offer. And then after those 1-3 hours the majority of people will start
swarming the forums with a) what they think is wrong with the game b) what they want to see added to the game c) bug reports, tons of bug reports.

So now Chucklefish, on top of having to add the rest of the content and flesh out the later tiers have to deal with all the a)b)c)'s .... They can't handle that... it'll lead to almost no responses to everyone's feedback / questions
and in return they'll get more anger / hate and bad PR...

Please tell me why those of you that supported them would want that? Just so you can play a demo with 1-3 hours content that's been made for just that... demo purposes. A demo and a beta are not the same thing in terms
    of content.

    My 2 cents.

Baiting me for another thrashing? Fine. here goes.

I already said in another thread that i have differing opinions on what is beta worthy and what is not than the devs. I already stated and so have many others thats its bullshit that its not beta ready yet. In the original scope of the project, which you weren't here for, obviously, they didn't plan on actually putting in any major bosses and even hinted that the quests were to be implemented during beta. Instead they had since then changed their minds and their game plan. But hadn't been straightforward or completely transparent about their designs as you have lead yourself to believe and others have lead themselves as well. Lots of people are getting upset over it.

And you and i both know i wasn't hinting at so much my trouble with words, but really your inability to read a post all the way through before twisting it to suit your needs good sir.

Its actually very disrespectful to try and bait people into an uncivilized argument. Its frowned upon and i believe since you are so good at following devs, you would be good at following their rules as well.

I personally don't care what you think or what you say to be frank. Because an opinion is a hard thing to change, but you seem hell bent on brute forcing it with your trolling.

I dunno. Yogscast is pretty boring (as are a lot of people with longer let's plays), but I don't think the game can be blamed for that. I kind of enjoyed seeing what the game would be like. Looks fun.

I'm a bit peeved at the devs, though. If it's not even in alpha, I'd like to at least see an alpha release sometime this year. They promised us a release this year... Then they promised us beta this year... And now it's revealed that the game isn't even in alpha? Hrrnng. I can be patient, but not when you prod at me with false hope.

    WE STILL COOL MANG, BUT 'FO REAL, DAWG. STOP. ;_;

What part of "the rest of the game is a mess" don't you understand? Or is it that you in your completely uninformed opinion believe that you know the state of the game better than the devs do?

While I'm sure that such decisions have delayed the game somewhat, the current state of the game is the issue here, not what the devs did/didn't plan for.

...Really? I could have sworn you were apologizing to me. But no, your concern is unfounded, I have no problem with reading your posts - it's just the sense of them is lacking. And really, I'm not twisting anything - pretty obvious we're talking about the same things here, and I'm simply pointing out the problems with your posts.
