You won't- I assume that you meant "see everything that lives on the planet at your doorstep"? They're already divided by surface (separate night and day spawns), underground layers, possibly minibiomes (they've mentioned unique drops for minibiomes but not sure if they've said unique spawns will happen in them)...

When was that ever in question.

Honestly I think they should have just shown the game off themselves. The yogscast were only there to build hype and they didn't do a good job at showing the game off at all. I think the devs are doing something tomorrow to show off the progression of the game though, should be good.

As a disclaimer, I've read through most of the posts, though I did skim through the rest.
With that out of the way, now on to my personal opinion...

I haven't changed any stance after watching the stream. I still dislike the Yogscast, and I still am anticipating Starbound. And, if anything, I gained a positive by learning the first (tutorial) boss doesn't fall into the trap of taking itself too seriously. (Honestly, those who are upset about the boss should really take a good hard look at Starbound. Because if that's something that really turns you off, well, I think you may have deceived yourself as to what kind of game it's been building up to this entire time!)
I knew that the Yogscast were going to be up to some such asinine behavior, but anyone who knew the Yogscast were would have as well. I think once TotalBiscut gets his hands on it, he'll give a much more proper representation of the game, but still fall into a few traps of impatience/skipping tutorials/etc. That being said, at least he tries to familiarize himself with the game before reviewing it and scrutinizing it. Heck, even Jesse Cox would've done a better job than the Yogscast, because at least he can be somewhat serious some of the time.

The Yogscast is just a bunch of lets players. Which is fine. The problem is that this game isn't ready for a lets play, because it's not even ready for beta. That's because, I personally think, the symbolic coverage the Yogscast gave will damage the community, and the hearts of some fans, for a short while. But! We will suck it up and get over it.
The real problem I had was that there was no developer trying to help lead them along. I was really surprised by that, actually. I'm not saying they couldn't have still had some shenanigans going on. But just think of the effect it would've had on them if they felt they had someone from the team helping them reach their goal? Which was, obviously, to fight the first tutorial boss. It would've made both Starbound and the Yogscast look much more favorable.

That being said, my opinion of Starbound hasn't changed at all. I still respect all of the developers just as much as I always have. And I personally agree with what Bart for correcting Molly said, for whatever reason he may have said it. I'm not saying Molly doesn't know what she's talking about. I'm not saying I think the game is in pre-alpha. What I, (again I have to stress) personally, think it was a PR move. How so? Well, honestly most of the 'public' community at the i49 have minecraft as a reference. Minecraft spent a long time at alpha and in beta, and many 'minecraft veterans' might not have (pardon my language) damn clue what a real alpha or beta really is. I won't go into detail about it, but anyone who actually knows what they are can back me up on that count. Now, it could be debatable for calling it a pre-alpha for, what in my opinion, is an alpha. But I think it was the lesser of two evils, rather than to roll with 'pre-beta'. Just think of all the beta screaming we have now, times a hundred.

Also, I personally really liked the boss. My only complaint? I think the giant flying saucer should have a more flamboyant explosive death animation. Something very retro-esque.
As a bad habit, I'm personally quite fond of spoilers. But for the first time I honestly felt a little bad when I first saw that penguin teleport down, because I felt I missed out on something that would have been an awesome surprise.

That leads me to my final point: I know I still love this game, because a spoiler from a game that's not even released yet actually caused me to regret seeing said spoiler. Which is insane, considering I usually go out of my way to know everything about a game before I even play it; all choices to be made, all upgrades to be had, all bosses to fight, etc..
Did Starbound, and Chucklefish by extension, take a slight hit from this stream?
    Maybe.
    Maybe.
But its a glancing blow, at best. To blame Starbound, Chucklefish, or any of the developers for the shenanigans expected from the Yogscast? That's just madness! To think about it, has anything actually changed from that one stream? No! We just saw first hand the very reason why there are so many forced tutorial levels in modern games today. That's nothing to blame Chucklefish for, because Starbound's tutorial is even optional! How crazy is that?
So, in closing, I don't think anyone should be upset about anything! Just flow with the punches and push onward, Chucklefish! :chucklefish: You've done a great job thus far, and I have no outstanding complaints.

It also opened my eyes that some people have been playing this game for a period that also aren't on the team, or "in house" like everyone was lead to believe. Although i am sure that we will see some form of beta in 2013, getting beta access as promised, and then have them game release not even a week after is going to generate a lot of hate. And its bad enough i am emotionally invested in the one video game i have been looking for, for almost a decade.

I want to make mods for this game, because i have the power. I want this game to succeed. But i can't help but feel that the window for their beta is going to be too close to release, or the release wont be in 2013 like promised with the mixed signals that are being sent. if everything bartwe said in the stream was true, that means the devs haven't been as transparent as others have been lead to believe in their updates. Not to mention they hadn't touched the road map in maybe a few months to give us an idea of where they are really at.

Its nice to know that i am not the only one who hasn't been fooled by all the hype that's been going on about the game when it comes to playability. The people who have been arguing that the game hasn't been playable for the past few weeks are probably reluctant to post due to the embarrassment of their inability to do their research, or their failure to check the dev streams every now and then due to whatever reason.

And mods keep closing these threads for ridiculous and unfounded reasons after letting the debates get heated because the devs are too scared to supply some solid facts to any of them for the soul purpose that the fans don't have the right to let the devs know that they have done a good enough job, so let us pick up some of the slack to help deliver a game that the masses will remember for decades.

So, INB4 Thread closed due to heated discussion rolling in.

exactly what I've meant, sorry :) I know they should be divided "somehow". That made me believe it will work well. I just don't see that on the video. They are pure random. And more.. after death they are completely scrambled again.

The point i would like to make here is the moderators probably don't know anything which is probably why. That and they probably have no real administration or moderation experience before starbound, and if they did, thats a serious joke right there that will probably have a lot of people laugh themselves off these forums.

But it wouldn't surprise me if the dev team and them didn't really converse much on the game itself.

From the way it is right now, sure, Starbound may seem beta-worthy. But if the devs do decide to launch it, what are you going to do? There's only one "tier" right now, a few dungeon types, and maybe a simple village. No complete quest system, no vehicles; you're basically just running around, shooting and building things, with really no purpose at all, except to get better items. That doesn't sound like the Starbound we've been waiting for.

As for screwup/coverup about the release date, every company has those problems. Why does it matter if Starbound is released a year early or not? Unless if you bought a four pack or some other high tier, it doesn't seem worth it to me to try to get a refund.

The demo wasn't bad. You have to keep in mind that the expo was not an American expo, and as such a lot of the humor, standards and typical behavior is a lot different from here (or other places.)

One of the players was incredibly aloof, one wanted to do his own thing, and the one whose screen I watched was much more interested in actually progressing through the quests.

If anything, this describes precisely the main three types of players the game will see. If you didn't like it, you could mute them and simply watch the video/stream itself.

Also, this wasn't pre-recorded. It wasn't pre-rehearsed. It, frankly put, was not made for you to be happy with the quality of the streamers themselves, but the game being premiered.

If you want to be upset about something, be upset about how the developers don't have a clear idea of what stage the game is in. It's in a state that is able to be demoed, but it's in pre-alpha? That's a load of bullsh*t.

Why is it that you always seem to be the voice of reason?

    I agree 90%

Yes those three players would be the three the game would see, but they still could have showcased it much better if they were more professional about it.

I don't disagree with that at all, honestly. It wasn't professional in the least. I just feel as though they weren't shooting for professional, whether that be for better or worse.

from what i have seen of the three, their live stuff has never been so hot. their editing work is above par though. aside from that, professional would limit them and the stream would become something we've seen a dozen times.

I understand that fun must be had, but it could be fun and professional at the same time, i think that was meant to be the whole point. There are plenty of other conventions in the UK and around the world where they showcase things at professional standards, and not only have fun themselves but make it fun for the viewers. I will admit that i enjoyed what i watched for the most part and it was fun and such, but all that really went out the window when i noticed that i saw all of that months ago in the live stream.

A tad bit disheartening if i do say so myself.

Were we watching the same cast? Molly and bart sat there fumbling for a while before their screen cut to logo. So i really don't get how more professional would limit them at all, considering they could have worked much harder to progress at their individual goals.

  14. Doesn't really matter who from the Chucklefish would have played it since all of them would be much, much better than what we've got.

Heck, even that last stream was kind of meh. Mostly just the guys futzin' about. Only real exciting part was when they finally found each other and started blowing each other to bits.
