this topic, and countless others could have been avoided had we had a better demo run showcasing the game... a developer should have been priority pick, much like in e3, the devs show the gameplay and features, not some random douches

The common criticism about the idea of "Let's Plays" is that they should be about the game, but they are usually about the person playing it.
There is nothing wrong with the Yogscast doing a Let's Play however they want to do it, but it is an AWFUL way to display a game.
If Chucklefish is delaying the Beta because they don't want people to see their game in a poor light, they have made a poor choice allowing the first widely publicized display of it being a Let's Play by people who just want to mess around, and don't care about the game itself.

As for the OP. You preordered an indie alpha. It will be ready when it is ready. Chucklefish didn't even open preorders until they had already made it clear that they did not intend to release an alpha stage product to their players. Wasn't their stance for a time that they weren't even going to have a beta other than a few people they know?
And I would just ignore the "this is pre-alpha" comment. It's probably just an alpha, though how you tag "alpha" and "beta" is somewhat subjective. Pre-alpha is experimental, most features are subject to change, alpha is incomplete, the base gameplay and structure is in, but new features are constantly being added and improved, beta is polish, all the core features are in, and now they are just being tweaked for release (along with some minor added content).

However this didn't kill any hype for me. I'm not sure what you all expected.
It's Terraria in space, with random generation for more content. Hell, the "space" part is just a planet selection interface for multiple worlds, nothing more.
I was disappointed to see the first boss though, not because I thought it wasn't good enough, but because I didn't realize a spoiler like that would be in the video.

    Guys you can't hide it
    Starbound IS in pre-alpha
A beta needs to be ENJOYABLE and FUN
Right now this game misses a lot of features that will make it playable
I hope to get my hands on the game in 2013 like many others BUT Starbound needs a bit more work
From what I saw from the stream I wouldn't buy this game like it is right now

I don't know why there's so much negative emotions here, honestly I loved the stream and I dislike the Yogscast. But that doesn't mean I'm going to let this spoil my view of the first real playthrough I've seen. They had fun with the game, which is the point of it. I'm not going to be playing Starbound because I'm forced to, but because I want to have fun and enjoy it.

They didn't play how I would play, granted, but they play for the same reasons I would play.
    Sheesh.

Haha, but the game is the same game you have been following for however long you have been following it, so that is like saying you wouldn't buy 'that' racing game because some people you watch playing it one time kept crashing into each other on purpose and never completed a lap. So because they didn't play the game the way you would have liked you are actually not going to pre-order? I'm sorry but that just sounds to me like you have no intention of pre-ordering anyway and have found an excuse to go along with it.

The game hasn't changed but how you personally play it will. Obviously very different to these guys so I don't see how it can affect a purchase decision.

Yes, I know right? after the showcase yesterday that had tons of problems I was like "oh well atleast a lets play tomorrow", but right now, after waiting on this game for so long and after this stream, hype is gone.

I made a post awhile ago but then I noticed it got deleted by a certain someone, so the best I can do is quote this.

I told you guys what would happen if you thought giving it to youtubers first was a good idea.
I also told you guys the marketing argument was just dumb, best part was it wasn't even just me.
Several people who brought up the same point said this was a very bad idea, but you guys did it anyway.

Good job, I eagerly await for the release on December 31st.

Problem is Teef, some of the moderators are more ban/lock happy than they are willing to bring legitimate concerns to those who need to see them.

I'd like to see a few examples of concerns that were brought up about the game by people who have no hand in the development that were handled by the crew.

Makes me remember D3 beta and release.

"Oh yea it will be done by Q4 2011", Wasn't released till mid 2012.

Wonder if they're going to go the same way.

Problem is, you want to have an open beta as EARLY AS possible so people can tell you what's wrong and fix it immediately, it's a LOT easier to fix things early on than later, but again for this you need an early open beta.

  12. I will post what i already posted:
This Stream made this game look like a Terraria RipOff (as we saw spammed thousands of times in the stream chat), not showing at all the true potential of Starbound, and with the guys playing not interested in the game at all just acting childish making fun of stuff for laughs and not really playing this game.

It wasn't any failure, but it could have been much better, the devs should have organized the let's play and show what Starbound is really capable off, we did not really saw Starbound in i49 live stream.

I like this game, i like the work the devs are doing, i support them but in this case, things could have been much better, but they also could have been worse.

Also about the Pre-Alpha comment, if Bart said that, this game as yet to enter the Alpha stage before Beta.

Yeah as I said in other similar topic, it was kinda of let down. I only can assume that for someone who doesn't know much about the game, they saw people playing Terraria 2.0. Seriously, it was boring, stale and barely showed anything that Terraria is really about.
In event like this, I would have imagined that Devs would have prepared a special dev run with a good plan of what they are going to show, something impressive and unique to just this game, but nope, just bunch of clueless people playing on a single world and not doing much of anything that we haven't already seen in Terraria.

I am still waiting for the game, but I am afraid that event damaged the game's reputation for people who didn't know much about it in the first place.

Agreed, I am still waiting for the game and can't wait to play... But that stream really did a toll I felt... To me anyway. As I said in the edited part of my Oringnal post, they didn't show off anything that terraria didn't do or a lot of games being made in this day of age. Some people feel it was just a 'lets play' But I think the dev's meant more for it than just a lets play.

I'm not saying you're wrong by any means, and I don't know that much about Project Zomboid, but I'm going to take a wild stab and say there isn't as much content in that game, as there will be in Starbound. Understand that within the first 24 hours of 70K people getting it, someone will hit very close to max Tier, some people are just that effecient, it might be a clan working together etc. What does that mean? It means that very possibly in the first 48 hours after they release beta, they will have bug reports ranging from T1 to T100, they will have gripes and complaints across the board from people who aren't happy for one reason or another, they will have people who submit the same bug 30 times because they won't search the forums first, and because in the first 48 hours it's going to be crazy hectic on the forums. A beta that has bugs in it, for a team like Chucklefish, isn't something that can quickly and easily be stomped out, the game is just to big, to much "can" go wrong.

Yogscast- They play for the lulz, they don't seriously game, it's less entertaining that way. Yes they had swords which killed mobs in two hits, yes they used "crappy" guns instead. Because it was more amusing to them, that's how they approach games. I can't blame them. I've played every combat style in Terraria and even ran around unarmored up until hardmode, just cause I can. It's preference, if you're judging a game based on someone else's playstyle, you are foolish and that's all there is to it. They were breaking stuff on purpose half the time to troll each other. (My friends and I do this alot, we'll even block doors off in Terraria and Minecraft to get each other killed.) Again that's their preference and playstyle.

Congrats you're one of the many on this forum that has been following this game since before these forums were even here. Do you want a cookie? Your browser saves them automatically for you. The fact you're going to dis on them this hard, and swear to never buy anything again? Honestly? Please, don't. Go away, don't go away mad, just go away. You're a troll, a bad one at that. If you have no intentions of ever buying anything from them, delete your forum account and delete this page from your browser, because you have no real purpose here since it's a forum dedicated tot he games chucklefish is publishing.

You're hanging alot on the words of- as someone else said- a jet-lagged dev who has been coding for 10+ hours a day. Have you ever tried to code before? I'm not being cruel when I say this, but if not..you have no real place to talk. Coding, even the simple stupid crap I did, can be mentally exhausting, especially when there is a bug that you just can't fix. You can spend 5 hours trying to fix something as simple as picking an item up to no avail. Your mind is jumbled as hell. But hey, if you feel the stream killed your hype for the game enough to want a refund on your pre-order that's your choice. I'll be playing when they release the beta, and enjoying it.

People are way to sensitive about this. It's reasons like this, and hate like this. Alot of big companies don't show you shit, you get a trailer for a video, maybe one or two teaser trailers along the way. Then you're left in the damn dark until it's released. Why? Because the internet consistently proves to have some of the most rude, and obnoxious people to exsist, who in my opinion, have no concept of the work they are weighing in on, yet still feel their opinions should matter more then the majority.

Project zomboid is a "realistic" take on the zombie apocalypse. It's a 2d game (not left, right,up, down, more like north south east west), where you have to prevent disease in yourself (don't get bit by zombies, wear protective clothing in rain/cold, disinfectant, bandaids, etc.) You might be really surprised how much there is to make/do in it.

Thing is, releasing an early "in development!" version of the game would allow gamers, some of whom DO have experience with coding, to test out bugs themselves, and offer potential solutions/causes to the developers.

These posts yet again reaffirm the tried and true belief that video games are serious business!
Guys, we got to see a cool looking spaceship piloted by a penguin come and deploy a penguin tank. Plenty of mining, a little exploring, more insight to the crafting, more insight into the animation, tons of mob spawns, and the game didn't crash once. These are all good things showing progress! This game isn't the Jesus of video games, it's not going to cure cancer or make our lives perfect. It looks like it's going to be pretty damn fun and the stream only confirmed that for me.

Keep up the hard work devs! Once this game launches everyone will chill out.
