    Lifeweaver log - Cycle 589 - 658A

How long has it been since I last met one of my own kin. How long has it been since the rhythm of the singing planet coursed through me. Through the threads I absorbed?

When the Broodmother first seeded us throughout the cosmos with the purpose of understanding those around us, we thought it was the greatest honor. Now most of us are gone, destroyed by the very creatures we were sent to understand. Only 5 of the original 600 laced remain to my understanding and much like myself, may have begun to suffer long term disconnection disorder or have been driven totally mad by the silence.

Once my study of this Human sub-thread is completed, I intend to defy orders and locate one of my fellows, perhaps Sings-to-Stone? Either way, this fraid thread must be repaired to continue our song, so we can return home on our thousandth
    cycle.

    Colony B-42 'Alpheras' - December 25 - Cycle 712

Rising above the azure clouds Alpheras' distant star awoke from it's slumber to greet the small colony perched atop a plain. Within the large structure of metal and wood colonists moved hurriedly, baring local game into that would be fed into several themocookers assembled especially for the event that the Colonists leader Saul Castle insisted was mandatory. Even the massive visage of the arachnid that had been dragged from his hive in the interest of 'Thickening the threads of knowledge.'

"Your not going to let that go, are you?" Saul asked quietly, straightening his Black uniform as he sat next to the large creature that he had met 64 years ago during the 'Bucket-oh-mud incident. When they had first met the Lifeweaver he was a shambling mess, whispering constantly of the lack of hivemates, something that had quickly been fixed when he had been pulled into the colony where it could listen to the minds of the colony's inhabitants. "I trust your not listening too deeply Sings of patience?" Saul questioned, staring into it's
sapphire eyes, bemused by the Santa hat which colony elder Camilla had weaved for him.

I understand the need for surprise, only surface songs are read, sings-of-mischief. And yes, your threads of wisdom shall be sung for thousands of cycles.' Patience sung within his mind, a mix of violins and piano, alongside the blues of amusement. 'I still do not understand the need, the children provide all the joy-songs I shall ever need. Besides, I was unable to get present songs for you.' This time producing waves of yellow, sadness.

"Nonsense, you've found the rare elements that keep this colony here. Heck, half the colonies in this system are funding by you!" Saul scolded, slapping the chitin skin scoldingly, something he'd learned to listening the Patience's memories of the singing planet.

By now several families had shifted in baring gifts for the Grand oak tree along with something very odd. 'I have many question songs now.' He whispered to Saul, eyeing a very large crate moved in via cargo-dolly, sporting the same material as the colonies' outer structure. 'Is this the Mark-70 those miners wanted?' He questioned, refusing the probe the songs of his fellows whilst instructed not to.

"Nah, those are coming in next month." Saul responded, grabbing whiskey from a tray sporting droid as
several kids swarmed Patience, one hurriedly jumping on his back to beat the others. He could feel the waves of blue flowing through the hall. He cautiously moved over to the crate tapping it cautiously, the thing had cost a small fortune but it served it's purpose, blocking Patience.

Moments passed as the rest of the colony filed in, taking seats in what was normally the meeting hall, providing even more minds to distract the Lifeweaver, just as planned. 'I should call you sings deceit.' The arachnid spoke as the last members walked in.

"I think we should get this show on the road." Camilla commanded clearly with the tone that had earned the title of colony elder. Her informal clothes still held the look of administration garb, sterile, plain, designed for utility over looks. "Don't want your presents bake." She quickly took her position next to thru tree, as gift giver. The crate took had already been surrounded by the gifts of fellow colonists. "As elder it is my privilege to announce we have survived another year, thanks to our miners and the very keen senses of our ally. Now, Patience, get your hide over here, your present really will cook." Camilla commanded, pulling free a data-key normally used to unlock biological containers.

Saul chuckled lightly as his friend hobbled over, sporting his young passenger. "I'm still amazed we got this under 'Procuring assets' ." Saul noted, causing Patience to turn as the crate opened, freeing the form of two large beings.

The L7-3 colony group has recently found a massive deposit of precious materials. Estimates are predicted to sustain the cluster for one hundred years.

    -End-

I originally intended to post this in the Christmas contest, but, kinda had my doubts that it would be applicable.
This story was designed to show alliances between aliens. I hope it worked, but I doubt it.
I also suck at happy tales.
