At least in Stable, it is the primary AND "best" source of pixels, because diamond ore = 100 pixels each, and even Sector X monsters drop less than 500 pixels. Sometimes only 6, or nothing at all. Selling / Renting / Quests isn't implemented in Stable, so Refinery is the only way to get pixels aside from AFK turret farms and/or grinding tons and tons of random monsters. You can also bank many more than 1000 pixels in the refinery at a time.

The refinery seems to exist as a way to get money in Stable, for builders that need to 3-D print a significant number of items / blocks, as there is no other way to get the sheer amount of pixels needed to make the towers and skyscrapers and giant Bender statues seen in the Screenshot section.

I hadn't thought of that at all. Huh.

As long as builders have a way to get pixels in the endgame, and pixel costs aren't horribly inflated due to the availability of diamond ore and the existence of the [Stable version] refinery, I think the game is better off.

that's what is available, however if you've looked at that progression unlocking mod it seems that there's quite a few tiers of functioning benches in the game now, they just don't have recipes atm.

Possibly due to adjustments/balance tweaks needing to be made, or perhaps nobody has gotten around to putting in recipes yet. In any event, it's definitely not something that no progress has been made on.

I'm also anticipating the next stable release. I just hope it doesn't turn into another "Dungeons of Dredmor" situation (i.e. Gaslamp Games put DoD on the back-burner to work on their own newer game "Clockwork Empires", even though Dredmor is still horribly buggy and crash-prone...)

I think everyone on these forums is looking forward to the next Stable release, and then the one after that and so on.

There's nothing we can say (and nothing CF can say) that would guarantee things don't change/happen in the future, because things happen. However, they're showing progressive work on Starbound every UK work day, and that's the best anyone can offer / ask for.

Can't really comment on the future, because I put my skill points into Perform: Humor and not Bluff or Oracular Visions. And because no one knows what the future holds, but that's a minor detail.

the pixel compresser is automaticly unlocked in the 3d printer from the start
it costs 1200 tho but you can get it super early

So, it compresses 1200 pixels into ... nothing? That's a 100% compression rate! (this is a joke)

If you can get it right away or very early, that's really nice. I think the two times you'd most want the ability to preserve pixels are early on (when you don't have enough to risk losing, yet are the least familiar with combat and staying alive) and pure endgame, when you need 3 million pixels to make your perfect home base.

I'm glad you said it was a "super advantage" because I totally agree. too much so. always has been.

It does sound to me like guns are getting nerfed, which they kind of already are (in stable at least).
If the inexplicable magic staves end up being the better option for ranged combat I'll be extremely disappointed.
