So I've been thinking (I do that sometimes), in a multi-player server, since the galaxies are supposedly huge will it be possible to never see another player for a good amount of time? Or on the other hand, randomly run into someone just building to their hearts content on some distant world, and make a new friend? :rainbow: Another thought, will there be protection for the buildings players create online? I would hate to have someone come and tear down the new space bar I just spent hours and hours creating. Also, does anyone believe there will be lockable containers/doors? These are just the most recent ponderings I've had while thinking of this wonderful game I do so yearn to sink my teeth into. Any thoughts? :DD

yes, it's completely possible to never even find another player even on a big server.

But it really all depends on the server you're playing on

as for protecting your stuff, that's up to you to defend it, or the server creator.

I think that it's server based, but that it will be possible to never see another player. I believe you can invite others to come to your ship or where you are playing, but generally speaking I don't believe it's going to be one big server.

As far as protection, I think they have special white/black listing, but I don't know about block protection.

Will it be possible to never see another player for a good amount of time: Yes, you might not even find each other. Ever. There are tools for finding each other though,
Or on the other hand, randomly run into someone just building to their hearts content on some distant world, and make a new friend?: That would be extremely lucky. But who knows. Another thought, will there be protection for the buildings players create online?: I'd imagine there would on your Homeworld, others probably no. However nothing is confirmed.
Also, does anyone believe there will be lockable containers/doors?: Would make sense. I haven't seen a confirmation though.

Anyways, multiplayer is probably gonna be a lot of fun. Can't wait to build a moon base. c:

From the info that I have gathered, there will be a system where you can find friends, and join them in their exploring. But, to find a random player, it's most likely not going to be easy/possible. I hope this helped, and I hope you have a good day!

Also, depending on the kind of servers that you go on, you can have servers entirely dedicated to PvP, where you will be assigned a team, and you will have loads of interaction with other people too.

Just like minecraft i feel that people will develop mods that let you protect your house and chests......But I feel that the starbound devs ( THAT ARE AWESOME ) will implement this in the game so no one has to mod it .. To answer your question.. yes I think that in the multiplayer you will be able to protect your things.

I think I remember mention of coordinates, so that could be a useful way of getting to people you are looking for. Otherwise you'd just be two specs among the stars.

I agree. I think director's mode will allow you to lock chests and set events easily.

Being able to see on which planet is a player is important imho, especially on small servers.

Like a "galactic record" of all flight: "last known location *planet name*".
