This song, to me matches Starbound for some reason.

The Pikmin some really fits in my opinion. Feel like a song that you would hear while in orbit on your ship, or in a friendly village

now that i really think about it, I wanna add my own idea of a good song that i feel fits with the idea of this game

Well I was going to say they already have music, but then I decided to nominate one of my ever favorite water world based songs. From Mario 64, Dire Dire Docks. Guitar cover by CSGuitar89, this guy has done a lot of epic guitar covers for Nintendo games from Pokemon to LoZ.

It's a bit long, but it explains it.
The way the echoing noise matches the way we mentally visualize outer space, therefore making a mental *click* to trigger certain memories.

 

I think the both of them have a small, sci-fi theme to their tunes, I can see the small relation. There are probably a hundred other songs that would fit into Starbound's category that are yet undiscovered.

 

Honestly I don't see it fitting Starbound. :/

Electro-noises + echo = SOME people's perception of space music

 

I think out of the two suggested by the Captain Olimar I prefer the second. Something about space to me seems better suited to a unexplored mystery and sense of 'echo' among the many locations, from space that is. For actual exploration on the planet I think we'd need something perhaps a little bit more subtle. Still, hearing things such as this wouldn't be all that bad to me and perhaps some others, I understand that perhaps we should just have these played locally as opposed to everyone having to listen to it. If you haven't yet, I recommend having a look at the pieces of music already available (I think its on a soundcloud somewhere, I'll have to look for it).

 

A fuq yea! Phantasy Star had perfect music for in a space station! Thought I was the only one that like Phantasy Star...

I'm gonna nitpick, but the title said 'song' and we've got only music here. No singing.
Although I must say that the Pikmin music Olimar posted does feel to fit Starbound really well.

But as far as songs are concerned I would go with the epicness of this:

The refrain especially- just makes you want to explore and push the space frontier.
